I feel like people didn't even learn the lesson from Star Wars at all. Which is that you should NEVER give up your rights and liberties to rulers who promise you solutions, safety, unification etc. People vote for bigger government that then demoralizes society, raises taxes, raises unemployment, raises cost of living, sabotages life generally for everyone. Star Wars is about a political manipulator who fools society with fake wars and fake conflicts to give himself more power. That's literally what people in the west have done the last 30 years 😐 And Putin does the same thing, threaten their socieities with fake wars and conflicts, promise safety and solution in exchange for taking more power for themselves, and taking YOUR rights away. like do people not at all even recognize this point being the ACTUAL main plot for 6 movies straight? Crazy 😂

Well he leaves out the part where you also have to work your ass off to create something other people will buy. George got lucky. Star Wars was a complete fluke; it was never meant to be successful. He's like Mark Zuckerburg who's a billionaire despite dropping out of college. Yes, it happens, but in extreme exception and only because they still created something useful for society's benefit, and that took a lot o hard work, skill, talent, and dedication.

savio roy I'm just glad that we the young people who watched the Prequels say their opinions aloud now. When I was a kid all I could find were the endless rants, and when you said something positive of the prequels they'd even insult you in horrible manners (many of them). I'm just amazed that I had to wait more than a decade to be able to peacefully voice my opinion in support of the Prequels... :/

George Lucas is a testament to the fact that the pursuit of passion is not always a dead- end street. He is where he is today out of sheer mental and physical fortitude. Even if you don't agree with the decisions he's made, it's hard to deny the indelible impact he's had on the movie industry and the world. He's ballsy and obstinate, often to a fault- but it's those attributes that contributed to the creation of Star Wars. I'll always be thankful for what he created. Even with him no longer at the helm, Star Wars endures. It just goes to show what a powerful story Lucas created.

@@solomongrundy.1604 Under Disney leadership, not Lucas. When Star Wars was Lucas', it saw multiple golden ages. The original trilogy, then the beginning of the Expanded Universe, then the prequel trilogy, then the Clone Wars multimedia project, then the further depths of the EU, not to mention the leagues of video games littered throughout all these eras. Even when some people were dissatisfied with the prequels, they didn't give up on Star Wars as a whole because the heart of Star Wars endured. Since Disney bought the franchise, the heart is gone.

I'm six years out of HS. I've gone to college and dropped out. I got a full time job with a reasonable wage and now I'm between work... The thing is, I never followed my dream. I've known what I love since 9th grade, but I never pursued my passions because of what my parents told me I had to do. George has only confirmed my suspicions that in life, there is only one route I'm destined to go after. I've been a hobbyist indie dev for the past 6 years and now that I've got some free time on my hands, I've been breaking milestones in my skills. I sincerely think I can make a living off of this based on the progress I'm making. Live your dreams. Thank you George.

Dragon Ball Rants follow your dreams man even if nobody else believes in them. George Lucas is right and your right. It reminds me of something Eddie Murphy said during His height in popularity during the early 90's. Deep down inside most know what they would love to do, but are afraid to go after it. Michael Jordan said something that resonated during His hall of fame induction speech that was so true as well. “Never say never, because limits, like fears, are often just an illusion.” Take life day by day, and stay positive. If the people around u or your environment isn't positive? Get out of their, cause their negativity will bring u down. Peace of mind is everything, and money isn't. Doing what u love to do in life (Your passion) and having peace of mind is what truly matters. bless!

***** Because "respect" is such a bogus term in entertainment that it should stop being used altogether. Which do you think is more important: spending $4 billion to make sure a bunch of greedy pleasure-seeking overgrown children are completely and utterly happy with every last aspect of a movie series, or using that money to build museums and fund education? If you don't know the answer to that question, try watching the video again.
@Sonicisbadazz
@Sonicisbadazz 9 жыл бұрын
***** He described "joy" as something long lasting that you get from giving to people, which he has done in the form of charities for education--yes, it includes film schools--and the building of museums. He described pleasure as something higher but much more short lived, and that INCLUDES his movies. Giving consumers the movies the exact way they were in the 70s is not "Giving a dog a bone." It's giving a dog a bone with a bow tie and very precise seasoning to enhance the flavor in just the right way for the dog's taste buds. Lucas has already given everyone a bone in the form of the movies the way they are now. If you want something that specific just to appease your exact tastes, have Chef Ramsey make you dinner. Otherwise, either accept what he gives you or go find a bone to eat somewhere else. If you were offended by the "pleasure seeking children" comment, I apologize. I was not referring to you specifically. I was referring to the entire Star Wars culture that cries like a bunch of babies because Lucas dared to do something with HIS property that THEY didn't approve of. I'm referring to these people who act as though they "own" part of Star Wars when they've put absolutely no effort into actually MAKING Star Wars. They think that because they're fans who spent a whopping $10 to see a movie--or possibly $20 to buy a DVD--that they get to dictate what happens with it and what doesn't. Maybe, since they "own" it, they should get a healthy slice of the profits Lucas makes from Star Wars too? Or maybe we should stick to what the copyright office says: LUCAS OWNS STAR WARS. If they're that bothered by it, they should either get involved in the development of the movies/universe, or just create one of their own. Heck, create an AU fanfiction that ignores the existence of midichlorians! How hard is that to do? Sorry. This actually does bother me a fair bit. Perhaps I'm taking it too seriously, but then, I think most of the fanboys take this crap too seriously as well. Thanks for the reply. :)

Yes, George, I know what you mean, don't listen to those trying to live your life or tell you how to live or what to do, it's your life, do what your heart and passion tells you to do.

I share your feelings as I was the first in my family to graduate from college in the arts! my father was against me being an artist and my mother went along. One day I showed them a painting that I had been working on and they both stood there in awe! At present in my life I feel more like you did when you came up with an original idea and felt like everyone was against you! Today there are so many problems in this country that add to my own personal hurdles it's a miracle I have come as far as I have with so many issues surrounding me like envy and racial barriers, and the feeling that people are just trying to steal my ideas and basically screw me over, it's no wonder why some of the greatest artists in history worked alone.

May the force be strong. Regarding Joy and pleasure he is right that Temporary pleasure is no match for joy..However if you enjoy something you also get pleasure.. Rajendra Biswas India

Man.. when George Lucas began making movies he was very opposed to big studios, as they would interfere with movies, cutting down on creative liberty and maximazing the commercial appeal, thus he was one big supporter of the indepedent scene back in the day. Now the man is giving speeches to business man on a channel that's called Corporate Valley. Trully, it's life imitating art, George became what he despised the most, he has gone to the dark side

+Chio Chan Genocide i completely disagree, did you ever heard of star wars fan movies? fans do it all the time, there is hundred od fan mande movies that use the star wars signature and lore, george could sue the shit out of all the people who created that movies, and he never did that he ALWAYS incentive his fan to make this kind of material, he is very anti-corporation in a "certain point of view" even if his empire was build upon the selling of toys

The prequels are not that bad. The story is awesome, the lightsaber battles are awesome and they have some epic and iconic scenes. The dialog and directing is bad though (sorry George but this is true). I don't get the people who say the prequels are bad because they think the politics is boring. If you just want action and simple entartainment, just watch RZA's The Man With The Iron Fists or The Expendables. Those movies are fun but they are not deep like Star Wars.

Mathias Signebøen the politics was the most important part of the prequels. Now we have SJW nonsense Star Wars with no story. I miss George :(

Why George Lucas is awesome - Created Star Wars and Indiana Jones - Wrote and Directed American Graffiti, THX 1138, A New Hope and contributed to the scripts of Empire, Jedi, Raiders, Temple of Doom and Last Crusade as well as producing all of the above. - Expanded the mythos and universe of Star Wars with the prequels. - Donated hundreds of millions of dollars to charity - Comes across as a decent and pleasant man who loves his family Now of course George did a good few stupid things but this shouldn't give butthurt fan boys the excuse to pretty much bully him and insult him. I personally enjoy the prequels immensely and the special editons, probably because they were Star Wars to me when I was growing up

See, George Lucas... is an example of why we should value and protect our ability to fall in love with things as a society. When school beats down the "genius" or passion students can have for a subjects, they're stealing those student's potential right out from under them. By getting them to close off their hearts and interest in those fields, and thus traumatizing them and limiting their ability for feel passion for them. And I've been lucky enough to discover that falling in love with something is one of the ways you can learn about it the absolute quickest. A book that you might have expected to read over the course of a few months, you'll zoom through in a matter of hours. Because you love it. This is why as a society, we should work harder to protect our ability to take genuine interest and fall in love with these things.

Hammern28, yeah you've got me started with comparing captions. ENGLISH vs AUTO-GENERATED ENGLISH. (BTW, automatic seems to yield a better result.) But I'm guessing that the Non-Auto CAPTION option text was simply input from some other non-human device, AS GENERATED BY AN AUTOMATIC PROCESS, because the mistakes aren't even human. It's the kind of translation that only a robot could misinterpret.
