I left Montserrat during the volcano. I now live in London but my heart is still on Montserrat. I have a CD called My Montserrat by a local artiste named Rachel Collis. One of the tracks is called Tribute to Plymouth. It is about the destruction of the capital Plymouth by the volcano. It makes me tear up when I listen to it. I am getting into films and will one day do a movie on the volcano on Montserrat. I hope to get her permission to use that track as the title song of my film

My eyes welled seeing Sir George get choked up at the studios condition. AIR Studios London is still thriving and from what I remember reading whether there was insurance or not, building another studio carried with it further worry of other hurricanes. The island had dodged quite a few bullets with several hurricanes nearing it's shores over the years. Plus George was tired; he was not in the shape to go through a huge project like that, health wise & financially.

How luck was I to be the MD of Air Studios Montserrat? Very! Best Studio in the world.
@jonathangriffiths46353 жыл бұрын
Very lucky, i was and still am a huge fan of the Police and saw them in concert many times, so Montserrat to me was synonamous (guess the spelling) with them so knew all about the place Saw the videos about the sad demise of the area and how lovely it once was, then by luck saw the documentary Under the Volcano which was great especially stuff i hadn't seen before about The Police, i met Andy Summers some years ago as i too am from Bournemouth. what was working with The Police like?, you must have been very young cos you like still young and very good looking in the documentary, thanks John

Air studios was a real institution on Montserrat. Seeing it in ruins is really sad. However there is still vibrant indigenous music. You can check out a video called 'Still home still nice' by Pat 'Belonger' Ryan on youtube. It speaks about Montserrat still being a wonderful place despite the volcano and also shows some lovely images of Montserrat

Man I remember that studio first held the neve console and my favorite pair of mci jh24 track tape decks, during the start and when "police recorded there, and upgraded to ssl console, studer a800 24 track an Mitsubishi x880 digital tape machines. Dang that was a nice studio!

The Air Studios was better that the new building. They were magic... It is a shame to spend money for another building and not to renovate the AIR Studios :-( .

Quite a bit of well known music came out of that studio. I just bought the vinyl recording of Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms. It was recorded there as was Jimmy Buffet's album, Volcano.

If I had the money I would rebuild there, maybe not exactly on the same plot as that's excluded! but somewhere on the island..

So the exact same thing is happening here at The Record Plant in Sausalito Ca. Fleetwood Mac,Huey Lewis, Santana, The Dead, Starship, & on& on. So it sits quietly fading away still there could be brought back to life still?
@markyncole10 жыл бұрын
Why didn't he have some kind Hurricane Insurance to cover that and why couldn't it just be rebuilt?
@enverbrowne84979 жыл бұрын
markyncole because the volcano destroyed it soon after
@williamjones44836 жыл бұрын
The volcano did not do any damage to the studios. It was all done by Hurricane Hugo in 1989. The volcano erupted in 1995. There is an exclusion zone that separates the area destroyed by the volcano from the rest of the island. Air Studios are outside of that exclusion zone.

'Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic' was recorded at Le Studio in Canada, NOT in Montserrat.

the whole music video was done in Montserrat and some of the recording too

If you do a quick google you will see the demo was recorded in Montserrat. For Synchronicity they recorded all basic tracks at Montserrat and overdubs and mixing at Le Studio. They likely did the same thing for Ghost in the Machine.

@@awwwyeaboyeeee The demo was recorded at Le Studio in Canada, the demo however made it's way down to AIR Studio (along with the piano player who was Jean Alain Roussel on the demo that Andy Summers basically said was an a-hole in the end of his book 'One Train Later' and Sting finally wound up kicking him out of the session at Montserrat after he pretty much pissed Copeland and Summers off with his ego), Stewart Copeland recorded the drums for it in one take and Summers tracked his guitars, the rest of the album to my knowledge, was all done at AIR Studio in Montserrat.

Sorry George, but I disagree ! What one creates from nothing need not return to nothing. More to follow !
