F1 cars nowadays are a lot safer than they were back when these fatalities occurred, and the other drivers would be able to see the crash from very far away in this scenario, giving them plenty of time to break and steer around it. I think he was more afraid of damaging the other drivers’ cars and potentially injuring himself, rather than death.

Plus the way his car was situated, he couldn't even see another car approaching. Scary stuff.

@@viggo_k8656We lost Anthoine Hubert in F2 2019, and Dilano Van’t Hoff less than a year ago in F3. this corner is a medium speed with low visibility around the corner, so if a driver didn’t react in time, they very well could have hit the floor of his car which would seriously injure him, or even kill him.

@@cadelepski5161even though there were yellow flags the drivers are still going 120+ kph. Which can still cause a lot of damage.

We lost 2 driver's recently in f3 and f2 in this similar situation so that's why he was scared

This isn't one of those mickey mouse Indy toilet bowl courses where all you do is point left. This is actual motor racing, and he's stuck on his side, right after a blind corner where drivers won't expect another car to be stuck. If you think that you'd be able to sit there in that position, and calmly wait until you can get out, go ahead.

​@@aerodynamic3037 In Indycar it's only left turns so it's easy to avoid cars...and there are no blind corners...but in f1 there are many challenging fast blind corners which is very risky for drivers

In those minutes he feared death by a fast car T-boning his car directly at 280+km/h, he panicked and started calling for red flag. His mind in those precious seconds processed cars just coming to a freezing halt with a red flag. The intent here is not malice, it is just the inability to process logic in a near death instance.
