I honestly hate how my split chains look. I avoid doing them when I can. I really like how pretty yours turned out. maybe I need to practice more.

Hello and thank you for watching. I have to tell you yes practice does make perfect. I hate to think what mine looked like when I first started learning. I still have all my scraps so I can see my improvement over time. As with all the techniques you have to practice until you are satisfied with the final result. Once it is where you like it to look that is when it is perfect. Let me know if you should need any help. Also join us in the classes online. You will learn so much more than I can teach in the videos and you will also meet some very well known tatters from around the world. We do all kinds of fun projects in the classes and they are free to those who want to attend. Here is the link to get you started. the fall classes begin in Sept. However we have a special class coming up July 14th. Hope to see you there. www.georgiaseitz.com/newtat/index.htm Cynthia teaches the beginners class just contact her and she will get you on your way to a wonderful fun filled adventure in Tatting. Happy Tatting

Question time! I have a snowflake pattern I'm working on and it works the usual clockwise direction. However, there are Josephine knots instead of picots on some of the chains. I wouldn't be able to use this technique for that would I? Since I need my thread to keep continuing on and not jump out. Do I work half the chain, put the knot on and continue? Or am I doing it wrong?

Hi Nephryel. Thank you for watching. You answered your question. How AWESOME is that!!!!!? Anytime you have a ring of any kind thrown off a chain you would work up to that ring then stop and do the ring. It is called a thrown ring if it comes off the chain. Even if it is a Josephine Knot or more commonly called a Josephine Ring. There should be a video on how to do the thrown rings on the channel it will be lesson 7 if you should need help. Keep up the great work your doing AWESOME!!!!! Happy Tatting

Hi! Your videos are very useful and I'm learning a lot, however in this video why do you need to do a split chain? Isn't easier just do the same chain you have in the other end? Why do we need to do split chain? Same with split ring why not to just do a regular ring? Why do we need them? In other words what is the purpose? Thanks!

Hi Marisela. Both the split ring and split chain has a purpose in tatting. They are both used for a variety of reasons. Mainly being to climb out of one round and into another round without having to cut and hide so many ends on each round. It takes alot of work out of tatting doilies and various motifs. I hope that helps explain this for you. Happy tatting.
