Mauna Kea, is the tallest mountain on earth when measured from base to peak. Everest is only the tallest from sea-level (technically the 'highest' mountain)

and because the Earth is not a perfect sphere ( it's squished from the poles a bit, an oblate spheroid), the mountain peak furthest away from Earth's core is Chimborazo in Ecuador.

The Canada one did my head in, but I knew you'd get there eventually. Remember in Canada development starts at the US border and moves north/along coasts, so it's typically not good to start looking in the middle of nowhere(unless you know it is remote).

Just a tip for New Zealand: Māori has no L so names like Kanawale or Leilani usually won’t be NZ names. Lots of other similar words though so I don’t blame you for thinking that. Hawaii looks tough (especially if you haven’t heard of Mauna Kea).

Germany has a crap street view geography. its from 2008 and never got updated. And only huge cities are in, they not even have Freiburg in Maps.

@@HumaneNewt i believe they had problems with many people who worried about their privacy and secruity because you could use it for burglary preperation/looking for opportunities to break into houses and so on. you can tell them to censor your house and they have to do it and that would be a ton of work. it is not worth it i guess

Just in case you're in a european country that has them: alongside the autobahn and many of its counterparts there are small white plastic posts with black markings on them every 50m Many other nations adopted them or we took their idea but regardless, they're really helpful for this pinpoint accuracy you're going for

Are you sure they are 50 m apart at the autobahn? At least in Sweden, on freeways, the posts are 100 m apart. On roads with lower speed limits, they are 50 m apart.

Grew up in Hawaii and instantly knew where it was -- I've never gotten Hawaii on GeoGuessr before Also keep in mind that 'w' in Hawaiian is pronounced as 'v', so 'wai puna' is spoken 'vai puna'

18:40 - perhaps I should play this game. I picked Nunawale Estates within the first 10 seconds of the image appearing. Nanawale Estates is right next to Leilani Estates, which was half destroyed by volcanic fissures last year. As well as types of built environment and road conditions particular to each country often the biggest giveaways for me is Vegetation especially tropical and subtropical plants and trees. I can usually tell pretty quickly things such as Latitude, Elevation & Climate by the health and abundance of plants, trees, weeds and some crops.

Mauna Kea... Hawaii I was in Oahu, 1984, I worked there for two months, on ANZCAN... a submrarine telecoms cable system... but by golly, the pacalolo was fantastic .. :) (Pacalolo was the local cannabis variety)

I just played the game for the first time, of course I mistook Oklahoma for Wyoming, Iowa for Minnesota, India for Malaysia (I saw a street vendor with a cigarette Ad for 15.000 Rp and I thought I had your abilities but no), I casually missed some town 500km away from Krasnodar and picked a main road close to the Ukrainian border, which is 4.500 km aways. Last one was in South Africa and I only missed by 600km. I'm recommending this game to geography teachers everywhere!

@@Debre. I mean: several hundred families lost homes and sometimes pets, plus any chance of ever using their land again. Several hundred more with damage, loss of land, inaccessibility. Displacement for months at least, often permanent. A unique and treasured crater lake gone. Incredible tidepools with a diversity of coral that is unusual for Hawaii, a beloved hot pond, hundreds of turtles and countless other wildlife, miles of lush forest and fertile farmland, all gone. Seeing a location in Nanawale Estates brings it all back to mind.

I (an american) saw the road signs in Hawaii and was like THIS IS 100% some tropical state. It's either some shit hole part of Florida or Hawaii. Then he got close enough to read it and I was like, yep, def Hawaii. No its not freaking Australia.
