UPDATE: Regarding the HDMI lag, there is an option in the menu to turn off "Sound Output (HDMI)". Doing so will prevent audio from going to the external device, but will significantly improve the delay issue. Night and day difference. Not ideal as I actually want audio, but might help some users who are only monitoring and not recording externally.

That is a huge relief for me because I use Lumix cameras for live-streaming with the Atem Mini Extreme ISO and I don’t care about audio from the camera.

Looks like you took down your video on the video on the Sony G lenses 11mm, 15mm, and 10-20mm PZ? I don't think I am imaging having watched it (although I watch way too many KZfaq videos), as I think you said the 11 was a bit too wide, and that is where the 10-20 allowed you to hit your preferred ~ 22mm focal length. I purchased the 15, but thinking of getting the FX30 with the 10-20 lens as the kit, as it has a $150 savings, making the lens half the price of the FF 16-35 PZ, which can wait until a later date. Having the zoom function might come in handy, but couldn't recall you exact assessments. Watched Dustin Abbott's video, and it looks sharp wide open, better than the Tamron.

Every 4-5 years a new mid-ranged full-frame workhorse gets released and takes the crown as the most well-rounded, value-packed camera on the market. It started with the D750, then the A7III, and now it appears to be the S5II. As someone who bought into the L mount a while ago, I've been holding out for the Panasonic cameras to have their day in the sun, and it looks like my waiting has not been in vain.

I gotta say, as a Panasonic fan, but now a Sony and Canon user, I'm glad they are making a bit of a splash with this camera. I always felt like Panasonic made the most enjoyable cameras to use, because they pack them so full of features. But every time there's usually a major flaw or draw back. We finally see a camera that they just kind of nail it. I just worry that so many people have switched systems at this point that despite being an awesome camera, few people are going to jump ship from emount to Lmount for it.

Wow, I'm impressed but not surprised. Panasonic really needed to do something like this to gain market share. They've been offering more bang for the buck for awhile but now that they have there auto focus system in video fixed and are also full frame I can see people finally making the switch to Panasonic for professional work. I had several Panasonic MFT cameras back in the day and the low light lack of performance eventually made me switch. When I buy my next camera and lens collection Panasonic will certainly get my consideration.

The fact they have active cooling and rate their cameras based on 104°(Which I've absolutely have had to shoot in), that really sets them apart to me. Love the LUMIX range, and I can't express how hyped I am for the AF... So... just gonna wait and see how this IBIS works out, your test results are better than the footage Panasonic have put out - I felt that to be similar to Canon's wobble at points. Also I could do with 4K60 FF... So maybe the S1H ii.... X is the next investment. But I also want to reward them for doing Phase AF so maybe I buy the S5iix to say 'good job!' Real time LUT... @@adnan_velic on paper the X-H2S would've been the perfect camera for me on paper but I just can't seem to love the extremely sharp clinical image from it. Very subjective ofcourse, but the Panasonic image out of the camera is just more pleasing to me.

@@botbot3698 Probably because Fuji doesn't use an optical low pass filter. It's not that it's over sharpened, but it hasn't been softened by sensor filters that other cameras use. But I'd recommend shooting with diffusion filters or vintage glass. Or use grades that have film blur.

thank you very much, Gerald, for this great review ... first review i watched about the new Panasonic S5 II with phase autofocus! Its price is absolutely going to be its selling point, a true "more bang for the buck" hybrid camera! Now, i'm even more intrigued about the possibility of a new GH7 with even more accurate phase autofocus!

Well done, Panasonic. This is a perfect response to both the FX30 and A7IV from Sony. All Panasonic needs to do is release a higher-end version with Full Frame 4K60 + 4K120. I've been saying it for years, Panasonic cameras have way more video features, including shutter angle, anamorphic support, and open gate modes. With Autofocus, Panasonic can now beat the C70, R5C, FX3, FX6, and C300 Mark III. 2023 will be interesting.

Very impressed by the Panasonic. Hopefully this forces Sony's hand to implement basic cinema features in their cinema line (and maybe even their hybrid line) with shutter angle and exposure tools.

I've been a Panasonic fan for a long time, I had a GH2 (that I would flash new firmware on - good times), a GH4, & a GH5. I ended up switching to Sony since Panasonic couldn't figure out auto focus, even on their full frame bodies. I'm really glad that Panasonic seems to have made a very good and well rounded camera, but I have already moved on and I suspect a lot of other people have as well.

yes... despite being an old model cinema camera, the Canon C200 would be my first choice: internal RAW + autofocus + viewfinder. Panasonic finally figured out the autofocus, which is great, but without internal RAW... the old C200 wins (for me).

Great video as usual! Being able to output clean HDMI while also recording to both SD card slots a the same time is a cool feature. Quite a few cameras have limitations like no internal recording or only recording to one slot, etc. Having shutter angle is also a great point. Would be nice if other makers got into offering that as an option.

I'm surprised anyone would consider the two. They're two entirely different lanes. One has usable AF + full frame for shallow depth of field, and the other has more pro features with higher bit rates. On KZfaq all youd notice is the depth of field difference and not much else, due to compression by KZfaq.

So, turns out Panasonic can make a camera with a phase-detect Autofocus and IBIS, and still preserve the same decent Dynamic Range. So, basically, all the BS they’ve fed us in the past 5 years or so was just that - BS. Thank you for a great as usual video, Gerald!

As much as i want to love this camera...it was a HUGE dissapointment hearing about huge crop in 60p.... Autofocus is all great and dendi, but it is not an innovation, they just caught up to aready basic standart technology, nothing special. Aslo as i understand 1080p is not oversampled, it is skipping or binning? Also i cant understand, and i mean REALLY cant understand 5iix model, all this features should have been in s5ii from the start, if i pay panasonic for 200$ upgrade, price will be the same, but i will not get streaming, ssd recording etc??? SO price for s5ii and s5iiX will be identical but with less features even after 200$ upgrade? Also i have to wait for may and couple more month for retail? P.S. in my country i can get a7siii brand new for 500$ more than panasonic s5 mark one.... and a7iV cost the same as panasonic s5 mark one.... to get first version for 2.000$ i must buy it only second hand... so i am torn apart and little if not largly dissapointed... do not know how to behave, as much as i want to buy s5ii, but i want X model features and i do not want to wait, also for 500$ more i can get a7siii with 4k 120 without so large crop and autofocus in 240 fps.... Damn, Panasonic, why!?....

This camera looks awesome. I was really learning towards getting an A7siii even though its a bit old at this point but man when the s5iiX comes out I think I'll instead opt for that.
