You brought up a really good point on the frame integrated bottle opener. What's important here is not so much the tool itself, but how a company thinks the user well use that particular tool. So bottle opener for example is usually in a social setting where one doesn't want to pay particular attention to having the fumble through their tool to find the opener. Contrast this with the pliers or box opener, which is usually in a setting when somebody has more time to themselves and won't mind as much having to go through a tool to find what they particularly need. Again it just goes to not only the importance of the variety of tools that a multi-tool should have, but the the execution in how the user will interact with that particular tool

This so much plus box opener. In some places pulling out a blade is a big no no say here in UK if I took a knife out to open a box in hospital I work in people would panic but dedicated box opener at best will rise sone eyebrows as wierd thing to have but won't alarm anyone. Purpose of small keychain tool like this is to be very light duty but also inoffensive

I bought this as my first ever Multitool as a gift to myself for 5 months sober now almost 10 months sober, But this little thing has put together a TV stand pulled nails cut many boxes and more. Love the dime but then i discovered the Leatherman Skeletool and its my daily main EDC. But i do find myself pulling the dime out of my back pocket from time to time. Great informative video.

Great video as always! i have a dime and like it, but recently I have been carrying a Leatherman Style PS and a Crocotool. A friend has the PS4 and it is definitely better than dhe Dime,. The Dime is good enough and great value for money. I wish Victorinox made a tool in this class, a micro Spirit., mini pliers with the tools of a manager. That would have been a winner!

This tool comes with me to all job sites. Mostly for the package opener. It is fantastic at cutting the jacket of multi conductor communication cable. 4 conductor shielded. I don't think I have ever used the knife, slotted driver, or pliers. Tweezers yes, for pulling out strands of wire from my fingers. Scissors and philips driver are great for personal grooming.

My sister bought me a Dime for Christmas one year so I put it on my keychain and I forget I even have it until I need it. It's a great little multitool to just throw on a keychain like that for that purpose. I don't think I have ever used either driver (I have a full size MT on me at all times) but pretty much everything else has worked fine. I think the majority of use is actually while in the car since it is conveniently dangling in front of me, and probably my most used tools are the scissors, tweezers, and pliers, mostly for grooming in the rear view mirror and cleaning under fingernails with the knife. lol Also, I remember when I first got them I couldn't help but think "Why do they HAVE to put a cap lifter on EVERYTHING?!?!" It's like they think we're all alcoholics, and if you need a cap lifter to remove a bottle cap you're not much of a drinker anyway. I've only had to use it a couple of times because Topo Chico sparkling water comes in glass bottles with crimp on caps (first world problems), but other than that I would have much preferred to not even have it, especially as such a prominent feature.

Good video Mr. Ben. The file is way to short the bottle opener is in the way if you want to use the file. When you open the Dime up the handles rub against each other. That's a design flaw. Besides those issues it's not bad for the price. But I still prefer the Leatherman Squirt PS4 😀😂👍!!

I get your negative comments, all warranted. But the point of a mini-multitool is having something you can carry anywhere, and you can carry this anywhere all the time. I mention this because I’ve had bigger multitools, and didn’t carry them all the time because of their size. It pointless if you don’t have it with you when needed. The bottle opener isn’t just a bottle opener, it multitasks for multiple functions, pry-bar, box cutter, etc. Not to mention Gerber warranty, I’ve had only one issue with my Leatherman tool, they fought me refusing to replace the tool or even send parts (hint, don’t admit to using the knife tool as a pry bar). I’ve also had one issue with a Gerber, and there were no issues getting it replaced. To me… THAT difference alone makes me a Gerber fan for life.
@Horde334
@Horde334 2 жыл бұрын
With your leatherman warranty experience I'm going to be honest they're completely in the right why should they fix your tool when you used a cutting tool as a prybar thats your own fault and your lucky you didn't hurt yourself in doing so. As for Gerber regardless of how good their warranty is they need to step up their quality control cause it seems like alot of their tools leave with questionable defects such as Faulty and brittle plier heads, heavy paint coating on the files rendering it worthless, and poor quality edge put on their knives thats what makes me avoid any plier based multi tools from them especially since their wire cutters are complete garbage that break to easily.

@@Horde334 - Ouch! Brutal! And Too funny! And please, it’s a multi tool not a single purpose engineering or medical device. The right tool for the job is often whatever tool you have on you when you need one. @@Erin-Thor Leatherman wasn't looking for a reason to not honor their warranty you voided it the moment you decided to pry with a knife and break it plain and simple and this whole mentality of "The right tool for the job is often whatever tool you have on you when you need one." is an excuse to not use common sense and a knife isn't a pry tool and never will be a pry tool its a cutting implement.

I have a Dime and several Leatherman keychain tools - PS4, Micra, Style PS and CS. The Dime just doesn’t provide the same level of valuable capability the others do. The knife is dull enough that you can safely run it across your thumb. The drivers are short, and one is mostly obstructed by the bottle opener. The file is worthless. The free handle on the scissors often clashes with the tool frame. The package opener is fine, but I can get the job done well enough with a sharp knife on one of the other tools. The frame-integrated bottle opener is a cool idea, but not something I often need. I just can’t think of a situation in which I would want to carry it over one of the others. So it sits on a side table and mostly serves as a fidget toy.

Ive tried several of these small multi tools always been disappointed. I find for a key chain type you need a blade, good scissors, tweezers, phillips, and standard. I've never seen where a tiny pliers could get me out of a jam their just too small to be of use. That said i find you cannot beat a Swiss Army knife hanging on your keychain. It excels at the above mentioned tools.

Beware that on many of these, some of the tools are too tight, to the point where you have to pry them out with something far stronger than your fingernail. This is a problem many buyers have come across if you check the reviews on Amazon. (I bought mine several years ago, so Gerber may have fixed this issue in the meantime.) Anyway, that permanently soured me on Gerber multi-tools, which I refuse to buy. If their design & quality control are so poor, I might as well just buy a no-name brand.

@txtoolcrib
@txtoolcrib 4 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. I think that the scissors on the Dime are not robust enough for that task. I would look towards any of the Victorinox tools or something that is scissor based. Examples of that would be the Micra, Style CS, SOG Snippet. In larger Leatherman tools, the Surge for sure. I have even seen some Chinese multi tools that have fairly decent scissors on them. I think scissors on the Dime, Style PS, SOG, and Gerber multi tools are just not robust enough, or do not offer the leverage for a harder task like that. Victorinox 91mm based is probably the way to go, even some of their smaller knives have excellent scissors as well.

I had 3 of these before i Switched to the Squirt PS4. The first one needed pliers to fold out the tools it was so stiff. TX Tool Crib I can agree with that. The ES4 came in handy when I found a bad connector in the taillight of one of my cars. Very teeny wire smaller than what would be manageable with a standard wire stripper, but the ES4 worked well. The PS4 and Dime work well for small areas where the Juice or Wave might not fit, but that might require more force than tweezers could offer.

I love going through all the comments and all the videos about the Gerber dime and how guys have carried it for 20 years and they use it everyday bulshit it sucks there is not one redeeming quality to it imma come on you can't actually use any drivers on real screws and the knife is dull from the factory in the more you try sharpened at the dollar gets and the pliers are ridiculous for anything that you would actually use pliers for but at least this guy gets an affiliate link credit
