Been carrying it for years. The tweezers are awesome when you need them. Don't put a sideways twist on the pliers - they break. Put a caribiner on the bottle opener for a bulletproof lanyard tool to clip on your beltloop or wherever. The package opener is awesome. Nice blade - sharpens easily. Forget the file. The flat screwdriver bends pretty easy. The screwdriver on the file is quite useful on both Philips and Robertson screws. . Overall - pretty darn handy as an edc. I'll keep mine.

I’m a Leatherman lover, but I bought the Dime over a year ago. It is a sturdy tool. As you pointed out, the file is useless other than filing finger nails. The tweezers still fit in its slot. The tweezers won’t pull out a splinter so I use it like a toothpick. The pliers are amazing! I keep it in my pocket for EDC. There is not a day that has gone by without me using the tool at least once.

This is a daily carry attached to the keychain. Pretty much get used at least once a day, from opening amazon packages, drinking a cool one, pulling a splinter from sliding hand in wooden railing, the file at work to smooth out a rough plastic edge, the plier for them pesky car fuse or reaching into a crevice. At the price, gerber could have charge more, but hey at the price I don't mind beating this up but it is holding up. Real easy to sharpen box cutter and knife. I do that when I remember watching football

I hope it serves you as well as it has me. I put the large end of the caribinder at the top. It makes for instant access. You don't gave to look. Just unclip the caribinder from your belt loop and holds your Gerber most securely.

I thought that the knife blade and package opener seemed kind of useless, as I already carry a knife (CRKT Minimalist) and a utility blade (Gerber EAB Lite), so I got the Gerber Dime Travel. It is just slightly different from Dime (no blades at all) but it has made it in with my EDC tools because of what it does offer. It trades the two knives for a full nail file and a zipper pull, which i thought might be useless, but have used it many times on a certain broken duffel bag zipper that previously gave me grief. The pliers, which are the same, work great for small jobs, and the tweezers have pulled many splinters, even though their quality may not be the best. I work a lot with small gauge wires, and the wire cutters work great! When I work with 16 awg or larger, I dont even waste my time pulling these out. Just not what they were made for. Good review!

Fits perfectly in the small pocket aka watch pocket of any pair of pants. Add a short 3.5” length of cord with a small knot at the end. It will just barely stick out of the pocket so you can deploy the tool without fishing for it.

I cringed when you tried the pliers on a huge bolt. With the obvious high torque that you exerted I thought it was going to give having read so many comments about the pliers breaking on them. Makes me wonder what they were trying to use the tiny pliers for. I'm not going to change a flat tire with those for sure let alone replace car suspension parts. Probably not even bend a thin sheet of metal. I ordered one. Thanks. Nice video.

Personally I prefer Leatherman over Gerber but this was the first unbiased and realistic review of the Dime. The others I saw liked the knife and package opener so much they gave a pass on all the other tools. Nice review!

Been carrying it for years. It's useful every day. I've used the tweezers for many slivers. Awesome. You're right about the file. Best way to carry it is a caribinder through a belt loop through the bottle opener. Rock solid. . I broke the pliers on one but that's because I twisted it hard to the left. My bad. That package opener is great for getting crap out from under your fingernails. . I have no complaints with this as an etc.

Your review pretty much mirror what I thought and found out about my Gerber Dime. I would add that there are a couple of pinch points where my fingers and skin has gotten caught and pinched while using this tool. Thanks for the video. Cheers.

Leatherman is definitely better quality but the package opener on the dime is what keeps it in my pocket. If Leatherman had one on a microtool I'd pick it up in a minute. I think I paid $15 for my all black dime.

Great review. I ordered one, it will arrive later today. I own a Surge and is a huge dissapointment. So i step down in size and i ask from Dime only a few things. Pliers to cut 2-3 mm thick wire, scissor to cut bandages and kinesyologic tape and package opener to work. Im sure that the bottle opener and the blade works fine. So i dont intend to push Dime over its limits. Surge failed me so hard, small screwdriver broke, scissors cut only at the tip, serrated blade dull after i cut one plastic strap... Im aware it might be 1 in 10k fail, but im done with leatherman. Ill use regular tools for hard work and Dime for quick tasks.

You did a review on the wingman not the wave. I think the wave is a better multi tool, you should get a wave with all the driver set and do a review. I love mine.

@@DEInTheGarage I do not. But I have a buddy that is a combat engineer for the army that used the older style of the centerdrive on one of his tours, and he liked it a lot.
@grasvard
@grasvard 6 жыл бұрын
I have the wave and the center drive. The wave is sturdy, useful, abd robust. It has a saw and a file (which the CD does not), and the serrated blade on the CD is super bad, just useless (and its not just mine, other reviewers have said so as well). The CD has the Gerber-style deployment as opposed to the wave, but it unfortunately feels cheap in comparison. The head moves about. When the tool is closed the wave is much more comfortable and totally closed as opposed to the CD. The pros of the CD is the namesake, the driver. The driver is good, in the center, with longer reach and accept standard bits (The leatherman only accepts the leatherman ones, wich are expensive. You can alter the range and use standard bits withe the bit friver extender, but again, more expensive as well as another bit to fiddle about with. All in all though, I would buy the wave (or maybe the bigger version, whatever its name is if I were to use it more seriously) over the CD any time, the center drive feels like it will break much more quickly. If I only needed the driver, I would just use a standard driver. The center drive arm is not enough to warrant the rest of the tool beeing pretty crappy.
