Gerber Multi-Lite / 20 Year old Multi-Tool

The Gerber Multi-Lite is a unique "tool box" design from around 1998. In this video I show you the mint condition one I recently picked up. You can still find these sometimes on Ebay (which is where I got mine). It's definately a great one to add to your collection.

I have one that I bought new back in the day I forgot it was that old. I still have my original Leatherman PST and was shocked to find the re-releases are 220 dollars. Good find. I added a small ferrocerium rod 2 mine

I bought a box of old stock Gerber back in 2003, the box had 12 of these tools inside but none had leather cases , they were new and in mint condition, still have them somewhere in the attic.

Since Leatherman did a remake of their Collector's Edition PST, Gerber should revisit this one too.

Alan Johnson Ya! That would be cool. What I wouldn’t want, however, is for Gerber to charge like $200 for a remake of this. The Collectors PST is way too expensive.

That must have been one of their first attempts at making a multi-tool back then. I have two of their new models (Center Drive, and Suspension) and love them so much. I have two of the Suspension NXT tools and keep one in my backpack, and one in my EDC bag. The Center Drive is used around home primarily for the knife, and screwdriver on it.

Got one as a present at Christmas 1998 from my employer, a baker. Used is ever since. To remove the plastic part.. open and keep going, it will push itself out of the frame. To place it.. keep one pin of the plast prt in place and slide the other from the inside in place. Easy does it.😉

Hiya : just came across a Gerber tool like the one above, it's now in my possession ...pretty much condition after fitting new CR1620 battery, general light oiling and clean. Regards

If you are looking for saw blades look online for Remgrit. I have a Gerber 800 Legend and that is what it came with. The nice thing is you should be able to put regular jigsaw blades in it so you have more variety.

You can use any jig saw blade but you may have to shorten it to fit inside that tool

I have 2 of these, but not the one with the saw. Mine have a corkscrew, and the other has a awl. I EDC the one with the corkscrew ;-)

The thing about the big chunky multi-tools for me is that I never actually grab them. Not that they aren't useful, but I'm always like "nah, too big" and go for something a little more compact.

Throws N' Brews Yes! Totally agree. This would be a good one for an EDC bag or maybe a vehicle center console. If you put it in your pocket, it would be like having one of those extra large packs of Juicyfruit gum in there. Lol

Ive got one of these from years ago and had to dismantle it to clean and sharpen it. I would love to know if there was a video of re assembling one of these things?

John Brennan I have looked for a long time for information about this tool and it is very scarce. The only thing I would think of would be taking photographs or a video while dismantling so that reassembly is easier. That’s what I did when I took apart a cheap Gerber multi-tool. If you already took it apart… 😳🤔

I have the same tool but in mine the saw is an actual saw blade fixed to the knife. Never had to change the battery in 20 years.

Great tool , had mine for well over 20 years , used to give me a scare when using the screw driver on electrical equipment and you squeeze too hard and the light comes on

The saw blade is just a short jigsaw blade

One problem with it is no way to change the battery. The one I have the saw blade isn't replaceable.

Nicholas Spychalski I'm not sure why the saw blade is not removable… But you can most definitely change the battery. Just use a very small screwdriver or a very small knife and carefully pry up the rubber padding that you press to turn the light on and it exposes the battery. Are you sure you have a genuine Gerber multi lite?

Everyman Gear. The 1st version had the awl and a serrated blade. Next version replaced those 2 items with the replaceable saw blade seen in video. Also on the inside of cover you can see the 4 rubber tabs holding battery cover on. Gently push each one outward to remove cover and replace the cr1620 battery.

Corkscrews are more useful in Europe , I used one everyday when I was in the ARMY in Germany , but that was in the late 70's

Sascha Vogt Yes. Carefully pry the actual square rubber flashlight button off and you can replace. Don’t recall the size. It’s like a small watch battery.

Yes, indeed remove the square rubber flashlight symboled with the little pliers back in the two little holes. The battery is a CR1620.

Still have may original - the rubber battery cover perished a bit but tools strong as ever

Alberto Kala I would agree with you most of the time. This was just such unique piece, with some sentimental value. If I had a choice, I would always choose Leatherman over Gerber.
