This is a great knife. I bought the coyote brown one. I carry it dropleg style and it rides really well. It came razor sharp out of the box and the handle material and ergonomics are so comfortable. I love it so much that I want the Strongarm for my birthday.

Bryan, Thank you, I appreciated the detailed review. Not that I need another knife, but had been looking for a more compact Scandi-grind to use for lighter chores. I had bypassed the Gerber Principle for no other reason than I don't like plastic sheaths, but your demonstration highlighted the knife's worth in a positive way. I bought it, made a leather sheath for it, and am very happy with the purchase. The Principle is a well-made, compact version of a full-up bushcraft knife. I have no hesitation in carrying this rugged little gem on day-hikes or overnighters. Again, thank you for the informative video.

At 3:13 you can see where this gentleman has trouble pulling the knife out of the sheath because it clicks in and is held in place pretty well. I thought it was just me that was having this problem, though I don't have any experience handling knives, so maybe I'm just not gripping it properly when I try to pull it out. I'm afraid I'm going to cut my hand when it jerks out like that. Anyone have any insight on this?

Has any really failed? Any other tests you'd want to add or swap in? I do like the Strongarm sheath system. I have the Strongarm and like it a lot though wish it was something better than a 420HC. Is it a "zero grind" scandi cause only zero grind scandis are real scandis 😂 Looks like a really cool knife esp that sheath , so weird seeing a scandi coming from Greber. Their 420hc USA steel is perfect for a knife like this , its a lot like Mora's 12C27N .

This was definitely the last USA made knife I've bought. My Buck Selkirk had an uneven edge, my Gerber Principle came with a chip on the edge and a sheath with edges sharp enough for me to cut the side of my finger whilst drawing, and my GEC lock back has lock play. The only American made knives with no problems are my ESEE knives. Made in USA isn't worth sh*t. I never had problems like this with European and even Asian brands.
@TheTuneAce

My problem with the $60 price point is that I can get a kabar bk14 for $40-$45 (better steel, better price, still USA made with a warranty) with a sheath. Now, the bk14 isn't scandi ground, doesn't come with handle scales, and doesn't have the sheath options allowed by the gerber design, but I don't see the value of those making up the difference in price, especially with 420hc. The Prodigy is such a better buy from Gerber

Sorry, but I have lost all faith in Gerber! I have tested several Gerbers of the same model and found their heat treatment to be very spotty. One would do okay the next would have a rolled or chipped edge. I used to be a Gerber Fan, Not any more! Don't even get me started on their palm pinching multi-tools.

They could have cjosen a better steel. 420 only comes out a 50 HRC with hi carbon to 55 HRC. It is stainless at 12% chromium and should be easy to sharpen again. But that is the cheap end of the stainless steels now. Hmmm would cut bait well....

I understand made in the USA is a big thing for lot of people. I live in Salem Oregon not too far from Gerber knives. But I can name a ton of knives I would say is better than this 420 steel come on $60 even worse I would never pay $60 for a knife made out of 420 at that price you can get a lot of knives with D2 steel or other steals that are way better quality
@devatwell334
