The Great War

6 жыл бұрын

German-Ottoman military cooperation predated World War 1 by a few decades. But their alliance during the First World War meant that German (and Austrian) troops would actually fight in and with the Ottoman Empire.

Hadn't heard a peep about this topic before now, very interesting! It's amazing how soldiers of all nations somehow managed to fight in such incredible conditions. Imagine if that amount of sheer will power had been able to be devoted to something other than the war. Both sad and fascinating.

No. Mustafa Kemal Pasha hated him. Turks lost war in the south-east beacuse of his command. Edit: We lost the war on many fronts because German commanders gave orders without being aware of the geography and the Turks. However, the Germans provided considerable assistance to the Turkish soldiers. Mines, Weapons, equipment etc. And I have a lot of respect for Liman Van Sanders.

There are so many wars following directly on from WW1 into the 20s, in Turkey, the Baltics, Russian civil war, Polish-Russo war, and others I don't know about I'm sure that the GW team could just roll the current series into the 2020s reporting from wars 100 years ago and keep war buffs content...

The more I learn about the Ottomans in ww1 the more futile and dire the situation seems for them. Corruption, high illiteracy, huge debts, little to no food or equipment, civil unrest, disease epidemics, failed reforms, massacres and a nationalistic goverment to boot, at least we had some capable officers like Kemal. How did the empire even last 4 years?
@Pavlos_Charalambous

I think is very interesting that kemal had around him a group of very capable people..so there was people that could help it survive a little bit longer but probably they came to late for the empire On the other hand we can say that the entire system was aging and started to stall like an old machine and the country needed a new begging

Coincidence rangefinder, works with an optic in both ends of the tube. When the two resulting target images are brought into common focus the angles from each optic to target in combination with the known width of the rangefinder provides a calculated range. The wider the rangefinder the more accurate the calculation. Ships would use ones more than 10m in length, and tanks would use them until laser rangefinders became common in the 1980’s.

You mentioned the corruption and nepotism that was rampant in the ottoman army at the time. Being as the ottoman state was the precursor to many of today's modern middle eastern states; i can't help but wonder if these practices in modern middle eastern armies can be an echoing of the past. This war has shown that old habits die hard and that military tradition and doctrine can be a very stagnant thing. The thought makes me wonder how much the west's military's still hold over from the war over one hundred years ago.

In Aleppo Mustafa Kemal Pasha couldn't work together with German Generals (Marshals of Ottoman Army like Falkenhein) German Generals wanted to strike back with an attack but Mustafa Kemal Pasha knows that if they attack they will take a heavy defeat and The Entente Powers could Reach Anatolia with one defeat. But the Goverment didn't listened Pasha and Pasha went back to Constantinople. Ottoman Army lost in Aleppo because of an attack and Sultan Mehmed VI Goverment called for cease fire at Mundros.(Ahmet Izzet Pasha Goverment)

@@paulvonhindenburg3668 I think you don't know Ottoman Palestine-Syria Front at 1918. British has destroyed Ottoman Forces at Damascus with Arab Support with heavy Ottoman Casualties. In a Defensive Front you cannot attack when enemy is more powerful but German Asia Corps think that " If Ottomans push British back with an offensive, German Empire can take some time to regroup their troops" And Falkenhein was making German Propaganda at Middle East so Mustafa Kemal Pasha do not want him at Supreme Command. So in 1918 Pasha called back to Constantinople.

Could somebody answer thIs question I’ve be thinking about lately? On the ante-bellum years leading up to 1914 I can think of a handful of wars that are like the Great War, Crimean War,American Civil war,Russo-Japanese war,Italio-Ottoman war and the Balkan Wars all of them showed increased firepower and use of technologies like artillery and reconnaissance from the air. How come no observers took notice, the Italio-Ottoman war had planes dropping crude bombs on Ottoman positions for the 1st time that seems pretty note worthy.

Ssks 10 no I did not, it’s on turkey in the first world war book and also on Falkenhayn Wikipedia Bio page. And this appeared on a news article from israel I red while I was searching “Falkenhayn did not send reinforcements to Jerusalem because he did not want the relics and the holy places damaged because of severe fighting. “. I also found a contradicting source In the book the biography of Jerusalem, a fragment where Falkenhayn even cried because he recused to evacuate Jerusalem, so I don’t know...

Von Falkenhayn did take a major role in preventing reprisals against the Jewish population after the Nili spy ring was exposed. For the defense of Jerusalem against the British, the German sources we used speak against him. But this might also be a "knowledge gap" like we have at Verdun when it comes to exact information about what was planned and what Falkenhayn's motives were.

His Majesty the German Emperor Guillaume the Second was the hidden Caliph of all Arabic countries in Ottoman Reign .He has the love of christianity in his heart and the love for All Midlle East .Native Germans when they left Midlle East, the Midlle east was devastated because they treated everybody with respect and love and human brotherhood.Since now,we miss The ancient Germans of the past.

Everyone is asking the same question, please address. In what individual battles would dinosaurs be a pivotal weapon of war? Could they pour into a trench and clear it out faster than shotguns and grenades? Pterosaurs as bombers, or recon.? If the armored plant eaters had a hippo. mentality could they be better than a tank? The world needs to know!

TGW - less than 1 million subs Some funny cat videos - 5 million subs. Can't believe that on this whole planet less than a million of us find this channel worthy to subscribe to. I say every one of us is worth 10 of those ignoramuses, so therefore TGW has 8.88 mill subs based on quality of subscriber.
