Sauerkraut is no side dish to a "Broiler" (half chicken). It was not on the menu like this, I bet! Usually it goes with "Würstchen" or "pig meat" (Haxe, Eisbein oder Schweinebraten).

@@ChasingaPlate I have had very few crispy fantastic tasting chicken like that. I will not say how many days we went back. I can say between the super sausages and chicken we consumed there is a farm missing a good 80% of it's farm.

@@ChasingaPlate Sometimes yes, I lived next to the Charlottenburg castle on Spandauer Damm. I remember a fantastic Italian restaurant around the corner from there we always visited named "Don Camillo," yummy :) Will revisit one day soon again.

The building is late 1800s but the current Markthalle Neun is only 8 years old. It's like De FoodHallen in Amsterdam...historic building but only 5 years in operation. I seek out food halls/markets when I travel and especially love the ones that have been around forever like Borough (London), Great Market (Budapest), Naschmarkt (Vienna), Reading Terminal (Philadelphia), etc. I'm kind of leery of the newer ones but I definitely understand and appreciate the business model. As for the food you highlighted, that fried chicken looked super delicious. Sauerkraut and fried chicken...I'm intrigued. 😀👍

Very true Tosh! And a fact we should probably have made a bit clearer. We’re generally the same as you- leery is a good word for it 🤣 but did love the artisanal stall holders in Markthalle Neun. Omg that fried chicken was delicious- should have ordered the potato salad to go with it too in hindsight! Let me clarify, Sheena. Some *_new_* food halls are doing it right. Dekalb (NYC) and Ferry Marketplace (San Francisco) prevent corporations from participating and contractually if a vender is purchased by a chain, they are no longer eligible to stay. 👍 Then there are food halls that are simply tourist venues set up in the best location of a neighborhood - Mercado Roma in Mexico City you may recall. All high end, high quality restos and shops but not a place locals frequent. You know I'm into Michelin as well as street food so it's got nothing to do with price point but it seems visitors go to some of these markets and rarely experience real local establishments. Rant over. 😀

Yeah, you're back!! I just finished a PB&J on baguette before clicking on the video..thank goodness! My grandmother used to get up early on Sunday mornings to make cinnamon buns before church. Loads of butter, sugar and cinnamon powder, rolled into light-as-air dough, then left to rise while we attended church. Fond memories of a long-ago childhood. So glad to see you traveling and tasting for us again!!

Awesome that you heard about the pickled flavour and the chicken :D Sauerkraut or Coleslaw is always served with fatty meats in Germany and I believe if you think about it :D All over the world in a different variety. Need acid for the fat :D

Quite interesting in all three videos it's mainly meats. It could easily give the impression, that we only eat meat and meat products. Except for the bakery products. May I suggest that this is not fried chicken, but actually a roasted chicken? Fried chicken isn't really what we do in Germany, but we have a lot of roast chicken (mostly on a spit over fire grilled, or in a special rotisserie "contraption", where you can roast multiple chickens at the same time.

I always wanted to try Cinnamon Buns, regret that the first one l ever had was from Costco and it was inedible. I still have high hopes of trying a yummy one. Disagree with you Thomas a Bunnings snag at $2 is a banging sausage 😂. The char on those snags and so rendered and caramalised so juicy and yum. Fried chook and beer 👍. Do you think the snarky peeps in the comments here realise that this counts as interaction hence YT recommends this vid as it did to me. 👏👏👏

cool Video ... while I love the Berlin Markethalls (Specially No-9 in Kreuzberg) you missed the best Chicken in Berlin, wich is sold at RISA ... they flame grill their chicken on wooden coal, wich is far more tasty, than any other chicken I tasted so far

"Salsice" and the other sausage aren't traditional german types but seem mediteranean and French! From the 1000s of types of sausages in Germany, you two had to find these and try them? How did you do that?

Hi Gerd Lentze, the bratwurst is certainly German although you’re right the salsiccia is not 😄 we asked the butcher what was the best that day and went with his recommendation. Can’t wait to return to Germany to sample more sausages! Cheers, Sheena

I forgot we went to the same bakery all eight of us I was able to buy one of each flavor and cut them up in eight pieces. They kept saying,"are you sure?". Bakery challenge destroyed. Felt sticky and gooey for all the right reasons.
