Abraham Kajzer, a Jew from Łódź, was 30 years old when he arrived in a transport from Auschwitz in autumn of 1944.
Before the war, he worked in Łódź as a weaver.
He lived with his wife Chana and son Moszek at Pomorska Street. In 1944 they were transported to Auschwitz. That's where they saw each other for the last time. His wife and son died in the chamber, he was sent to work on the "Riese" project. Out of six siblings - apart from Abraham - only a sister survived the war.
He was transferred from place to place - he worked in as many as eight Arbeitslager Riese camps.
One day he found a pencil and decided to keep a journal. He would stealthily tear paper from cement bags, go to the latrine and write down what he saw, heard, thought and felt. He nailed the written pages to the inside of the latrine board. If the SS had found them, he would have been hanged.
When he escaped from the camp in April 1945, he was convinced that the diary would be lost and he would die. However, a German woman helped him - she hid him in a cupboard in a wooden box with potatoes, and when the Soviets came, she gave him a bicycle on which he rode around the latrines of the camps where he worked and retrieved the cards.
And what happened next?
