A few words about the attitude of Poles to immigrants and refugees. If u want to live in Poland and want to be respected and welcomed, u must follow the following simple rules: 1) Respect the Polish history. (Generations of Poles have given their lives for the freedom of Poland) 2) Respect the Polish customs. 3) Respect the Polish tradition. (the Polish tradition is thousand years old) 4) Be loyal to Poland. 5) Take care of the Polish state, because Poland is our common good. 6) Don't kill, don't rape, don't cheat, don't lie, don't steal, don't insult others, don't hurt others 7) Be polite, help people who need your help. 8) Help Polish people to protect their country. Respect Polish soldiers, police and firefighters. 9) Don't take narcotics. Drinking vodka is commonly acceptable in Poland, but if you lose your family, money, job ... because you are an alcoholic, you will be despised. 10) Take care of the environment.(30% territory of Poland is a forest. 80% of forests lakes, rivers etc is owned by the Polish State and is FULLY OPENED FOR ALL POLISH PEOPLE!!! TAKE CARE of this COMMON TREASURE!!!!!!) If you follow the rules above, you have 100% guarantee, that you will be respected in Poland no matter the colour of you skin, race, religion, gender or nationality. You can be a part of Poland no matter where are you from. This is a part of the Polish tradition. If you are not able to follow the rules above, Poland is not a place for you. We welcome people who want to help us protecting and building our country. But we don't need people, who are not going to look after our common good with us.

There is a great deal of untruth in this video. Let's start with point 9. The first university was founded in Bologna - presumably someone meant the first university in central Europe. On the subject of kissing ... (point 3). Depends on the degree of intimacy, but rather women don't wish it. Yes, sometimes it happens, but it is not the norm. Regarding immigrants - this is not the 1990s. Maybe in a small town a black person will arouse interest, but on the other hand, Vietnamese were in Poland during the whole communist period. No racism, rather interest in a small community. Regarding reparations, Poland never de facto got even one German mark. Moreover, the Soviet Union blocked the Marshall Plan for Poland. Everything was distributed by the USSR. Moreover, we were squeezed out by the Soviets. There were even jokes that we gave them coal and they took steel from us in return. As for the children in North Korea, it is true, even a small part of them stayed and settled in Poland. Milk bars are definitely not cafés or restaurants. They are self-service eateries. As far as naming children is concerned, the registry office can forgive a lot as long as the name does not offend the child or break the rules of the Polish language significantly. There are a few rules, but it's not like we have some list of allowed names. Regarding Belvedere vodka. Vodka like vodka - it is good, but at this price you can find much better. They just do good marketing.

It is not that Poles do not like foreigners and do not want them to live in Poland. There are many people of different ethnic origin who live in Poland e.g. the Vietnamese community is the second largest in Europe. In my opinion some Poles, not all - one can't generalize here, they don't want migrants who are strongly culturally and religiously different and are regarded as ethnic groups that are hard to assimilate and maybe even try to impose their way of life on others.
@TheRezro

It is basically a "our land our rules mentality". Poles do not like when migrants mangle in they bussines, but generally is someone is respectful, he would be respected. It is well seen in Polish Roma communities, as there is mutual respect here. Not Roma ghettos like in some Western European countries.

Many American Jews come from Poland or its former territories. The creators of MGM are Jews born in Warsaw. Scarlett Johansson does not have Polish roots, only some of her ancestors came from areas that once belonged to Poland. There were not many immigrants in Poland for historical reasons (a short episode in the history of our country - the times of communism). Previously, Poland had always been a multinational country. Nowadays, more and more foreigners come to Poland. In 2022, approximately 340,000 foreigners lived only in Warsaw (most from: Ukraine, Belarus, Vietnam, India, Russia, Turkey, Georgia, China, France, Italy). So this situation is changing.

Not completely.1. In Poland, during the 40 years of the PRL, there were few opportunities for immigrants from Africa to come, they rather came from friendly countries in North Africa to study at universities and some stayed 2. We had no moral need to accept immigrants from Africa because we used to oppress them... 3. After '89, we did not big money here enough for them to come willingly, only a few random people stayed... 4. Most people I know believe that help should be provided in the nearest safe country - Kenya or Iraq are a bit far away...

I'm actually German but living in Poland for quite some long time already. I saw how Poland looked about 15 -20 years and looks today. Need to say a great change and Poland did an amazing job. Cultural seen I can't identify too many differences, sure it depends what you are comparing but overall not so different. Coming to thatlet'scall it presentation. I guess it shall not focus like eg on were different people have their origin but more on great achievments like Marie Skłodowska Curie. She was Polish and an outstanding person with two Nobel prices in different subjects. Or Nikolaus Kopernikus many dont even know he was Polish. For sure a lot of other views to raise but these kind of 'quick overview' ain't adequate

Greetings Chris. As a native Pole living in Poland, I wish to thank you so much for this reaction.👍👍👍 Now, my comments on these following 15 things about Poland are as follows (in the same order, as shown in this film): 1. Well, yes. Some of those US famous actors and directors are of Polish descent. However, hardly any of them speak any Polish, I'm afraid (with the exception of Roman Polanski, that is). 😓 In fact, most of them probably do not even know where Poland is.😕 2. Max Factor was NOT founded by a Polish woman, but a Polish-Jewish man - Maksymilian Faktorowicz (MAKSymilian FAKTORowicz = Max Factor). 🤔 3. [...]There used to be a time, when a man would kiss a lady's hand, when meeting her as a sign of resepect and courtship[...]. Yes, that was about 10-20 years ago. Nowadays, some men (probably age 40+) could sometimes kiss a lady's hand usually if that lady is much older. We do NOT kiss any ladies' hands every time (usually because they would pull their hands away, before that kiss). Kissing ladies' hands is not common amongst teenagers or friends at all, either. 4. There aren't too many African or Asian migrants here⁉ That is one of the biggest lies I have ever heard. Every time I am at a Polish hospital, I can see foreign students/doctors there. Foreigners (especially students) are almost everywhere in Poland (most likely in big/medium cities). Heck, even my Customer Service ex-coworkers are from Zimbabwe and Rwanda (Africa). Again, there are POLES (people who like foreigners) and POLLACKS (people who dislike/hate foreigners). But, hey, nobody is perfect, right❓🙂 5. Jan Kulczyk was most probably the richest Pole, indeed. As such, his son Sebastian and daughter Dominika are well-off, too. The number of rich/poor people is more or less the same as in Germany (well, perhaps less rich people in Poland).🤔 No further comment needed, I guess. 😁 6. That car-theft is a story which could depict Poles as car-thieves - a stereotype which is absolutely out-of-date.😡 Pay no attention to it, please.🙏 7. WWII reparations⁉Here we go, again‼😰That is a very delicate and controversial topic in Poland.😱 In other words, Polish nationalists wish to get more money, whereas other Poles simply wish to forget about that nightmarish past. In this case, we are all divided. 8. Well, the cases of Korean juvenile migrants seem to be true.🤔 9. No source of information provided. As such, I cannot confirm or deny information on that drug screening application. In fact, I have never come across it before.🤔 10. YES, it is true‼ We are so proud to have Malbork within our Polish borders‼✌ 11. Milk bars are more like diners (or "greasy spoons") than restaurants. Yes, milk bars offer inexpensive dishes, but it does NOT blow me away at all (they sometimes taste like hospital food)‼❌👎 Milk bars' low prices are meant for everybody. 12. Yes, we do have sand dunes in the north of Poland.👍✌ However, a vast majority of seashore dunes are restricted areas (due to high fragility). As such, people CANNOT walk probably on any seashore dune here. Sand dunes taking over houses and villages⁉I mean, come on❗I have never ever heard/seen that before. 🤣 13. Yes, it is true.👍 Polka dance comes from Check Republic. As for Polka dots, I am unsure. 🤔🤔🤔 14. Yes, it is true. There are limitations, when it comes to naming your children in Poland.😕 15. I am NOT sure about the existence of that limited edition of Belvedere vodka at all. But, guess what⁉I don't drink alcohol, so what do I know.🤪 Well, that would be it, I guess. 😁 Chris, once again, thank you for uploading this film. 👍 I am open for any comments. 🙂

Hey first of all Thank you for your very positive and supportive comment :). Its really nive to read something like this. Is milkbar still a corporation or a charity service? For example in Germany there is something like the Tafel which gives food for very very very low prices/free to poor people. Milkbar does sound more like a corporation, but do you have something similair to the Tafel in Poland? :)
@robertstepien3787
@robertstepien3787 4 ай бұрын
@@chris.poland it is not a corporation. Before the 2nd World War it was an idea of a cheap feeding locals with healthy food sold with low prices. The idea of so called milk bars became popular during the communist era in Poland, when these locals we run by state companies and offered very simple dishes based mainly on flour, cereals, eggs, vegetables, fruits and milk. Today they could be considered as bars for vegetarians, although sometimes there were available meals with meat (rarely). That is why they were called milk bars. Most of the dishes served there were pancakes filled with cheese or jams, dumplings, simple soups, potatoes with eggloaf and boiled carrot. After the collapse of communism in Poland many milk bars got bankrupt or didn't survive the competition with foreign fast-food companies. The whole imagination of those locals was that they are of low higene, dirty, with untasty food (that is why for some people milk bar meals resemble hospital food). Some of those milk bars survived and changed. They are no longer of state companies but have their private owners. Although the idea of simple meals for cheap money still is a base of functioning such places. So nowadays many of those contemporary milk bars obtain financial support from local governments or directly from the State. That is why prices in milk bars are low and people like them. This is also based on the sentiment for those former milk bars of pre-transformation era, how those locals changed their appearance (they are clean and no longer considered as only for unwealthy people) and the enrichment of their menu. Still most of the meals there would be based on milk, flour and vegetables, but dishes with meat and fishes are also available there. The name "milk bar" is still alive in the minds of Poles, although these places have changed somehow and transformed according to contemporary economic conditions.

Then the Iron Curtain. That's it and that's it. It doesn't bother us and we've gotten used to it. We have always had many students from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Are we racist...yes and no. @@chris.poland Not exactly, it's not on university grounds. The bar's name simply results from the predominance of dairy dishes, although the menu also includes dishes based on eggs, groats, flour, and meat dishes. It is assumed that the price of the most expensive vegetarian dish should not exceed PLN 10-12, and the price of a meat dish - PLN 20. Milk bars differ from exclusive and modern restaurants only in terms of interiors, menus, and management systems. Apart from these factors, everyone works equally hard to satisfy customers.

@@chris.polandI think that this depends on the political orientations of the political parties creating the governent, whether they are more righ-wing, left-ring or central - like in every other country, I suppose. The previous, right-wing government (e.g. Law and Justice party) often used anti-immigration narrative - especially when it comes to persons immigrating from outside the Europe, e.g. Asia or Africa. It was connected with rhetoric against EU etc. Current government (e.g. Civil Coalition, the Left, Polish People's Party) changed this immigration rhetoric to neutral/positive, and the whole government is very pro-EU, argue, that EU is very good for Poles, etc. Coming back to immigration, especially left-wing parties are rather explicitly willing to enable immigration for everyone who escapes from war or, simply, want to improve their wellbeing. But I think you have the same discussion in Germany, you have, e.g. Alternative für Deutschland and politicians who are using anti-immigration rhetoring to threaten people and win more voters. Similarly, there are still push backs at the Poland-Belarus border, which are against human rights and illegal, but similarly, undecent actions were taken also in the case of Italy border and EU FRONTEX Agency. So, I think that a lot of things, discussions, problems etc. are similar across many countries of EU and we have to address them together :) PS Very nice movies, I enjoyed a lot! :)

Seeing problems that for example France, Germany or Sweden has with assimilation of arabic migrants many people in Poland are afraid of migrants from arabic world. 8. Wow I'm Polish and I didn't know that 11. Milkbars are cheaper and usually faster than in restaurant, but although healthier than fast food is often not so good and the place has much lower standard than any restaurant. It is a trade off and it is your choice which you prefere.

Kissing hand is not so popular anymore, probably just as respect to older women. And is is not true that Polish people are against immigrant just against illegal emigrants we do not want have those problem like in Germany i France that people are scared to go outside and it is actually opposite that those people do not want to immigrate to Poland because we do not have social like Germans but we have a lot of African an Asian university students who are benefiting from Polish education. Unless he wants to introduce his own laws and rule in our country. Then he may face unpleasant situations :) Terrible stereotypes about us have been built in Western Europe. Creating a good system for accepting the integration or assimilation of immigrants and refugees is very, very difficult. Even wealthy eu countries havent managed to achieve this (they only pretend to have success that doesnt exist or hide problems with it). As far as know, De model of approach to this topic is also described as bad and ineffective. Positive effects are achieved only in very small-scale(max 0.1% of the country's population per year) and compulsory language-cultural programs, otherwise, the mountain of problems only grows.

To the imigrants: the reason why there were not so many of them was straight forward and this reason was economy. Poland just was not first and not second choice to migrate to. Ttherefore the only other cultures you might have notice, were small Chinese and Vietnamese communities. This however has changed last years, first with Ukrainians and Belerusians, then with other nations.

First thing, the woman who talks about Poland in this video is an American so probably, what she knows about Poland is something what she read on the Internet, it's a little outdated or is just a stereotype not a fact. The name "polka" for the dance comes from the Czech word "půlka" (pronounced similar to polka) meaning something like "little half" and most probably refers to half step or "half rhythm" - the fast pace of the dance. Noteworthy - it is not a contemporary word in the Czech language in the sense that it is not commonly used in modern Czech. Instead, it seems to be more of a historical or etymological term rather than one in regular use today. Also - I am Polish so take this explanation with a grain of salt and best confirm it with a Czech.

Immigrants don't choose Poland simply because other European cuntries (Germany, France, Sweden, UK, Netherlands etc.) are much richer and offer them more possibilities. Politics which are pretty dirty here is a whole diffrent story...

Ein Teil Polens war damals von der Österreichisch-Ungarischen Monarchie besetzt. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h5OWe6dystzUnH0.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gL2elNGgxLOdnJ8.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/er-Rd5Sasa7Lnn0.html https:/ /kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g9qZY8JixN_bhqM.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q6x4bNOkyduzeac.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e8dxZa-blsuzj4k.html www.youtube. com/watch?v=J2bF86_sTWw kzfaq.info/get/bejne/brFyocqqp7e6iGQ.html😍

6:35 "people will look at u curiously" yeah cuz some ppl have never seen a foreigner ever in their lifetime, tho that's not why there's no immigrants in Poland. Nazi intervention -> Stalin's migration policy/relocating ppl - > 90s financial situation after the fall of communizm -> recovery till 2010 -> current times that gives u like 10 years of developed n open country so ofc ppl are only now chosing to migrate to Poland, also ppl who want to do so gotta be aware that's a mono-ethnic society so they won't get a big china town or anything of that sort just yet

The Baltic Sea is quite warm because it is shallow. Even the Nord Sea is fairly warm (I live in the Netherlands). Go to Portugal. Both weather and beaches are perfect there. But try to bathe. Really cold ocean.
