He originated from a Wolf, having his teeth sunk into ‘prey’, is what he was originally ‘ designed ‘ for, it gives him comfort, having caught his prey and holding on to it, as well as having made a ‘ contribution ‘ to his pack. He has no idea, of course why he is doing it, nature, is making him do it. Just praise him, for having ‘ caught ‘ his prey.

He does it because he’s a derp, and that’s who he is. Love him for it.

It’s self soothing. He needs hugs. Every dog is different, my GSD did the same thing.

My. German Shepard does something simular. He used to use his front teeth to chew on your sleeve when he snuggles. But now he does it to his blanket and he's 4 yrs old now. I think its a comfort thing.

It’s a natural instinct that they are born with. Sinking their teeth into prey is what makes them happy.

My male GSD does the same thing, and has since about 10 months or so. He's six now, and still does it, but only to his beds. We thought he was too young to be separated as well, but this seems to be a comfort thing for him now. He doesn't destroy the bedding, just holds it. Also, my female GSD does not exhibit this behavior.

Human kid's suck on a thump for so long ' German shepherds are puppies until two years ( I personally feel they never stop being puppies😊) I had German shepherds and I have known other German shepherds' I think he has a tooth coming what must be making him uncomfortable and to feel better he is doing this . Your fur baby is adorable and precious !

My German shepherd did the same thing I don’t think it has anything to with when they were taken away and think it is just comfort as my dog was an adult when she did it.

Self-soothing and grounding - similar to thumb sucking or using a pacifier!

The too young thing was my first thought, but I was sure that he must have been at least 8 weeks when you got him. That said, it could still be something similar. Kind of like thumb sucking in human kiddos. Basically a self soothing thing. The important thing is that he leaves it when you tell him too. He's a good boy.

I have cats that do that and my 3 yr old Gr Dane does that sometimes. It can sometimes be from leaving mom too soon but not not always the case, like others said it’s a comfort thing. As long as he’s not suckling and chewing and eating the material (I had a cat that did that) then it’s not usually a problem.

Shepherds are working dogs they need something to do, you can get him a back pack and put a couple of bottle waters and take him for a good walk! Things of that nature!🐕💜😉

Most professional breeders recommend 12wks before separating a pup from it's mum and litter. Regardless you seem to be a good mum to Zeus and sometimes we all need something to hug....it's his Teddy 🧸 🙂💛

I think he just likes to do it and that's why. GSD's are individuals and in many ways are people. And people have certain habbits. I don't think there's anything wrong with Zeus and I think he just does it in the same way you might chew gum or smoke.

He needs more belly rubs & telling that he’s a good boy! He may also need more running & exercise since he is a Shepherd dogz
@STR8L8CED2 жыл бұрын
Unless there is a big stresser in the house id say work him more. GSD need a lot of activity to do. One of the main reasons why ppl give them up. They are not lap dogs.

I’m not familiar with in my GSD. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Pay attention to when it is happening to see if he is reacting to something that bothers him. Loud noises, arguing, even drama, sirens, volume from the TV.
