I recommend you check out my latest video about working German Short Rows in the round here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gMxjas6Qu7zTmJs.html. I will still leave this video up in case people have linked to it but I promise the other video is much better.

AMAZING TUTORIAL!!! I just completed my first German Short Row for a sweater using your tutorial - thanks for the excellent demo. I'll have to save this. Not sure what people are complaining about, but I found this very helpful.

I love this demo. The lack of distracting chit / chat compliments the actual knitting. Personally I find the pace of your knitting “right on”. I knit the same way. If it were any slower I would move on. Thus, this is the only technique video of in the round German short rows. I do appreciate that. Good job!

I am an experienced knitter and love German short rows. I have never been satisfied with how the German short row finishing round looks for those final stitches that are not approached from a turning round. The last little bit where you explain that final join is amazing. I own entire books on short rows. None of them have covered this.

If you have knitted all the double stitches are going to work a color pattern next, would you count the beginning of the round as the marker that marked the first of the last row of german short row or would the initial beginning of the row where the tail is count as that?

Re: Your tutorial "German Short Rows in the round" Thank you so much for taking the time to produce this video to show us this method. I found it very clear and so easy to follow. I have a quite old Cardigan top-down pattern with raglan sleeves. It starts with the neck ribbing, then begins the raglan increases and, at the same time, shapes the front neckline. Unlike many patterns, it does not use increases to add to the number of stitches at the front edges. Instead, the front neckline is shaped using short rows, first reserving a number of existing stitches at both front edges and then adding 2 of those reserved stitches at the end of each row, until all reserved stitches have been added to the main piece. For that part, I would like to use the method demonstrated in your tutorial. My question: given that this is a Cardigan, could I use the pick-up method which you demonstrated for the last 'double stitch' for all my double stitches, or is your method for 'in the round' only? Thank you for your help and, again, for your tutorial. I really enjoyed learning from it.

Thank you for your kind words! This "last double stitch pick up" method is only when you work in the round. If you're working flat (as for a cardigan) you can just use the normal German Short Row pick up for each double stitch (in stockinette: work double stitch as if it was one stitch). I hope this helps!

Frogginette Knitting Patterns Thank you very much for responding so rapidly and for your advice. I will follow it for the cardigan and other flat knitted projects, and keep your ingenious "last double stitch pick up" for working in the round. Have a good day.

Thank you so so much for your tutorial! I’m currently knitting a topdown sweater from Petite Knit called ‘no frills’ and it calls for GSR for its neckshaping. I’ve been watching your video over and over again to understand how to go about this pattern. The pattern calls for 5 set of turns in total and I’m really confused whether I should be using your ‘picking up double stitches technique’ for each and every double stitches I encounter? Or should this specific pick up double stitches be only used for the last turn round? (Thus knitting through double legged stitches as one for the previous 4 turn rounds?) Need your help desperately! Thank you! p.s) should ‘picking up double stitches technique’ be done exactly the same on both WS and RS?
@KnittingWithFrogginette
@KnittingWithFrogginette 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, it's only for the last pick up of the double stitches.Picking up the double stitch should be done knit wise on the RS and purl wise on the WS (assuming you're knitting stockinette).

I am working on this same sweater and have the same issue. Still trying to figure it out since it is my first top down sweater...used to knitting sweaters bottom up and sewing the front and back together. The way the pattern was written really disappointed me.

If you purchased your pattern on Ravelry check in other peoples projects, they might have links to websites or blogs that will explain it. If not, look for the pattern on Raveltu anyway it might be there and there is a lot of help there. Good luck! 😊

Great video for the concept, but too fast to see clearly. I still had a hole, but it will be easy to fix.

I always purl my last stitch on the knit side, so when I turn I can easily wrap the stitch just like on the purl row, then there is no hole and it looks neater.

If you click on settings (bottom right of timeline - has the red "HD" logo" on it) you can choose to play the video at a slower speed if that works better for you (0.75 for example)
