A sustainable family house, build from natural materials und with a comfortable indoor climate - that was the briefing from the client to the team of "Hanfingenieur" in 2021 to fullfill his dream of a family home.
Thank you Henrik Pauly (Founder of Hanfingenieur) for the great opportunity to film the biggest hempcrete house ever build in Germany and share the knowledge about this construction method.

you are the best! I really like the way you talk and film about hempcrete. By the way it would be really interesting to see the details of the floor and the way it is connected to the foundation screws. This makes the building much more environmental friendly than using common concrete. Greetings from Italy.

Thank you Lucas! About the foundations: It is really simple actually. It is just the wooden frame, as an independent floor structure, that sits on the screws at specific points. The structural engineer calculates the right points. The soil must also fullfil the requirements for this kind of foundation.

Awesome video thank you! Also really interesting and good to see that it is feasible to use ground screw foundations for a building this size. I have only ever seen them used in smaller structures. I would be really interested to see how you have framed and supported the underside of the hempcrete walls on top of the ground screws to allow the hempcrete to be laid on top, if it would be possible to show this in a video? What a nice house, awesome work. I would love a house like this. Which architekt makes the drawings? Are there already templates that can be used to copy to get permits?

No, in this construction no soil is needed. Hempcrete has only 3 main ingredients, water, lime and hemp shives. The hole is made for the sewerage system/drainage later to collect and distribute the grey/rain water.

@@carlroge the only thing I know about the screws, for this size of building, is that you are going to need approx. 5-6 meters long galvanized steel screws that need to be put in the ground with a machine. First of all, the ground has to be checked for stability and the authority must be informed because in Germany this is an exception. If your country has more strict rules because of earthquake active region for example, then it might not be possible to get it approved.

Hello @milly morris, unfortunately I do not have that information. I wasn´t involved in the planning and construction of the house. But I can tell you, that generally building with hempcrete can be in worst case 10-20% more expensive than conventional building. Not because of the material but because of higher labor costs on site. But if you have many volunteers or friends helping in the construction then it could get even cheaper than conventional building.

I'm still to find an honest constructor talking about the durability of such buildings, the life-expectancy, the real costs, how will the building survive a flooding, a water main breaking while nobody's at home... everyone is brainwashed and obsessed with CO2 footprint. Build traditionally and insulate the sh1t out of it, use hemp for it if you want.
