It seems that under Jim Ross drug abuse was punished.John Lauriniatis seemed to encourage it because of the 'body builder' appeal but only up until 2007 when the Benoit incident happened he obviously had to work on the new drug policy.Which begs the question of why isn't JR still head of talent relations?

It is a Medical Condition that can affect ANYONE. It's like a mild stroke, except the paralysis can last for a few days, years, or (like J.R.) a lifetime. J.R. has gotten back most of his movement in his body yet his face remains affected.

the "choose" to inject, snort or take a pill. no one is shoving it down their throats. they have the option of not continuing a wrestling career. many wrestlers over many decades have made the choice of not using when wrestling wasn't as profitable and much harder on the body than it is today.

@SlipknotSevenfold1 - JR is still with the WWE. He has is part of a show called Legends of Wrestling which is produced by WWE and airs on WWE onDemand. He either hosts the program or is part of the round-table discussion that has veteran announcers/wrestlers that discuss different aspects of wrestling past and present in a shoot format.

You're right about Eddie, but there was a time when Eddie was dealing with "issues" while working for the WWF/WWE. I'm thinking it was in between Latino Heat and his first World title in the WWF/E. But yes he died of complications to the drugs long after he was clean. I wasn't meaning to imply I thought Benoit took drugs, just that what happened to Guerrero was a bit easier to foresee than that of Benoit. I stopped watching regularly after Eddie died. Benoit's tragedy has only kept me away.

lots of drugs are illegal in the US and yet guess what? when someone asks for the help for rehab, they get it without criminal repercussions! all they have to do is ask for the help and they get it. no drug addict will go clean unless THEY want it. i'm curious how it's the wwe's fault for people taking drugs. it's the individuals choice. also, former wrestlers, some of whom aren't huge fans of vince or the wwe, have publicly stated that the wwe's drug policy is amazing and effective!

@Jimmy McCallum What does the PG Rating have to do with the age of announcers. King is older than JR. Before 1997 when WWE went TV-14, they had 50+ year olds in Heenan and Monsoon. I hate they people think they can blame the rating for every injustice they feel is wrong with the company. The WWE can suceed in PG, it just needs better writing.

4 days on, thats still over 220 matches a year. How can you wrestle without steroids and pain pills? Guys who can wrestle for years without pain pills must have tremendous will. Bret hart said he was a sex addict in his book, and it saved his life. He said it is close to impossible to not have a vice to survive wrestling, specially steroids to take all the punishment. I would think the wwe would have massage therapists and acupuncture and their own pain clinic for these guys.
@viciouscanadianvixen
@viciouscanadianvixen 15 жыл бұрын
ummm...guerrero and benoit were using steroids very heavily at the time of their deaths...you have it backwards. when their careers first started they weren't. all you have to do is look at old photos of them and compare with recent ones...the size difference alone speaks volumes. also the tox reports on them both at the time of their deaths do!

One thing not in just wrestling, but in all sports that the "Boss" / Owner needs to also remember is the fact that athletes are human.And the human body can only take so much on a night to night basis.As for the drug issue, as adults, its YOUR responsibility & no one else's as to what you put in your body. So there is no blame game here. If you get caught with drugs, then you get fired just like in any other line of work. Now if you use the old argument that "I need these drugs so I can wrestle cos I cant afford a day off, well then maybe wrestling isn't for you, cos ya cant stay healthy.Besides, once ya get caught with em, you'll probably be fired anyways. Its kinda like a double edged sword.
@LimaKiloRomeo
@LimaKiloRomeo 7 жыл бұрын
Bryan Allen It's like Benoit. Even though the WWE should've had stricter drug tests, & (maybe) a lighter schedule (hence them taking the drugs: to heal & not go bat shit insane-though that's anticlimactic), he (Chris) should have stopped the diving headbutts, protected himself when taking (worked) weapon shots, & worked less reckless. He can't blame the WWE for him gaining countless concussions with a diving finisher like that.

I know all about this stuff. In no way was I meaning that the WWF just throws the druggies to the streets. It has happened before, but only when said druggies don't attempt to stop. They've gotten significantly better about helping their own than say the 80s and before. Eddie was a tragedy is all I'm saying and after it happened, most weren't all that surprised based on his past.

You have a better chance of winning the lottery than of making it to the WWE. You have a better han average chance if you are good looking, are over six feet tall, 220 lbs., with less than 15% body fat. You also have to be able to speak well and be somewhat athletic. Find a reputable wrestling school, stay away from drugs and alcohol, and good luck!

Urgh, Monsoon was a dreadful, awful announcer. His tired cliches and haggard old one-liners were very, very annoying. Fans that praise him are generally seeing his work thru the eyes of their childhood, not exactly the most credible view-point.
