Oliver Burchett Clarence, usually billed "O.B. Clarence" was playing the Vicar, a part he often played along with Judges, Professors, and Aged Gentlemen. Usually comedy relief or to provide contrast in a drama.

I think the actor playing The Shocked Vicar was always playing that role -- including in 'Pygmalion.'
