After Jesus resurrection He came to the disciples and He asked Peter, if he loved Him. The word Jesus used about whether Peter loved Him was “agapao” but Peter must have been caught off guard and said “Yes Lord, you know that I love you” (John 21:15) but the word Peter used was the Greek “phileo” which is the brotherly love. Peter didn’t get it. Jesus was using the strongest of all types of love, agape.

In one of his many videos, Beckwith said he had "revelations" and "inner initiations" that rocked his world and his dream "lasted for months" and that in his dream he was "penetrated by the universal presence" that changed his life. Universal presence? Revelations? Inner initiations? Does anybody really know what he is talking about!? Does it really have any relevance to the REAL immediacy of our lives? If Beckwith had all these insights, one must ask, to what degree? I ask because he knows that a legitimate spiritual awakening is all matter of degree. Unlike Gangagi, Adyashanti, and Eckhart Tolle, I doubt Beckwith is as enlightened and you never hear these truly enlightened masters brag and rehash about how much they suffered in the past and then engage in new age sophism as Beckwith does to fill time and make you believe his so called "revelations" were "all that" when in reality he is no different than Wayne Dyer in that they concoct this new age/higher consciousness philosophy and talk ABOUT it ad nauseum as if THEY actually realized enlightenment when they haven't. E. Fromm could not have said it any better _"Today, millions of people in America and Europe try to find contact with tradition and with teachers who can show them the way. But in large part the doctrines and teachers are either fraudulent,or vitiated by the spirit of public relations ballyhoo, or mixed up with the financial and prestige interests of the respective gurus. Some people may genuinely benefit from such methods in spite of the sham; others will apply them without any serious intention of inner change. But only a detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis of the new believers could show how many belong to each group"_ I would have more respect for Beckwith and other teachers like him if they told us upfront what stage of spiritual and psychological development they are presently in so well described by Ken Wilber which I'm sure Beckwith and Dyer know all too well. But if the masses are clueless because they are too enthralled by ballyhoo, why should he and Dyer care to make the real efforts to become truly enlightened when they can fake it and make millions in the process? Sad and quite upsetting to see that even those who claim to be spiritual teachers can be just as disingenuous as our politicians. You will never hear Dyer and Beckwith talk about the underlying causes of racism, poverty, inequality, injustice, government corruption, and the pathology of the corporate state- the very forces that makes our lives a living hell and by not saying anything about it they make their flock believe their suffering is ALL their fault and not the socioeconomic and political forces impinging on us!! It's infuriating! Dyer and Beckwith are distracting us from what really matters and if they were so enlightened they would have told us about it a long time ago. MLK they are not! Another thing... in this video, Beckwith claims that he had an out of body experience... so what?! This would be no different than speaking in tongues. Of what good it is if it has no relevance to the perennial problems of human existence? Rome is burning!! And here we are distracted by nothing more than bullshit.

+GnosisMan50 Tolle is an enlightened master? I'm not going to read the rest of your post. But I can tell you that Beckwith--although arrogant and demeaning to Christianity--has the ability to reach a broader audience precisely because he is still more human than enlightened. Tolle is not enlightened, btw, he had a spiritual experience due to a deep and sudden negative experience, which he talks extensively about, and which is a rather common experience to those who lose a loved one; come close to death; or otherwise realize their own mortality. So... maybe you need to get your facts straight.

+GnosisMan50 If you had the level of consciousness that he has and most of the people responding to this outstanding video, you would understand what he is saying. We are all on our own level of consciousness and that is why when the student is ready, the teacher appears. He already answers your questions if you were able to really listen. IF we were ALL conscious of the fact that WE ARE ALL ONE, United in the Divine Intelligence, then there would be NO wars, racism, greed etc that you mention. That is what he is talking about. No one can constructively solve a problem on the level OF the Problem! Why go there? You are not even on the same page as Dr. Beckwith, actually, not even the same book. IF you care about expanding your knowing, read the Science of Mind by Ernest Holmes, which is the same philosophy. Why are you so angry? If ONE person can be uplifted by this video, by Dr. Beckwith's words, than what is wrong with that? Your attitude is what perpetuates your own perception, and that is all there is. We all live in our own perception. Change your perception, change your world, and if EACH person, took responsibility for that, than we would have peace on the blue planet.

+TheOneanjel I really don't see how you know with such certainty that Tolle is not enlightened. I'm 60 years old and in the past 30 years, I've read and studied many book on mysticism, spirituality, ACIM, humanistic and integral psychology in addition to sessions (therapy) with Buddhist psychologists. From all that, and from life experiences, I have reasons to believe that living spiritual teachers such as, Tolle, Gangagi, and Adyashanti are enlightened. While I have no doubt Beckwith gained some measure of awakening, the way he expresses it does not have the same depth as the aforementioned teachers and these teachers would never promote the book, "The Secret" as Beckwith did. www.slate.com/articles/life/human_guinea_pig/2007/05/ive_got_the_secret.html The problem with spiritual teachers and all preachers from all religions who claim to be enlightened or claim to know God is that they have no way of proving it. Nor do we have a test that can determine where Beckwith (or anyone else) is in his or her spiritual awakening. In this, and as you said, Beckwith still more human than enlightened and that's fine but for how long? When will Beckwith reach full enlightenment? isn't that the objective in all spiritual traditions? What often gives away those who are not enlightened is in their behavior and what they say. Beckwith reminds me of the born again Christians I'd see in the Philadelphia subways where they would dance and smile and preach the word of Jesus as if they were in love with him. I say this because their behavior is so indicative of falling in love. And unlike being in love with another person, how is it possible for anyone to be love with Jesus, someone who who died centuries ago and written about in a mere book? As I see it, the born again are not in love with Jesus, they are in love with the IDEA of Jesus. Beckwith has his own new age ideas that he's in love with but unbeknownst to himself, he's too enamored with them. Jesus would call this idolatry -yes, you can idolize ideas too.
