Formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in the summer of 1981, SSD (Society System Decontrol) are universally recognized as the first straight-edge band and their 1982 debut The Kids Will Have Their Say is considered a landmark release for hardcore music. However many fans consider 1983’s sophomore effort Get It Away to be the band’s most crucial release. Trust Records has re released both albums and has partnered with Six Stair Productions to tell the story in this short film about one of hardcores most important bands, SSD.

SSDecontrol was was/is one of the greatest bands of all time. It would be rad to see them re-unite

You DO realize how old they are now, right? The energy of those first 2 albums wouldn't be possible to be recreated. MANY classic bands that play the "reunion" game are a mere shadow of their former glory.

@@Malegys Yes, I seen em at the Olympic Auditorium with Black Flag. It would be really cool if they played renditions of their songs like jazz tunes or even outlaw country western rockabilly versions. 🎸

Awesome video but in the description is say's they are recognized as the "first straight edge band" which is odd because I thought that would belong to Minor Threat. Hell you could even argue Teen Idles even if they didn't have the label yet.
@creekandseminole

Maybe the first band to outright call themselves that. To give themselves that term as an image for the crowds to latch on to. That's what I'm thinking of

@@creekandseminole I guess that makes sense. I can't say if Minor Threat ever actually claimed to be straight edge. I'm only 26 so someone from back then woild know better lol

@socialinsect5073 one of their songs is titled Straight Edge and Ian Mckaye coined the term straight edge. SSD and the Boston Crew took it to the next level and would actually attack people who were drinking at shows. I heard Nathan (Elgin) James refer to it as Hardline in the Boston Beatdown video.

Haha Angie explaining the difference between punk and hardcore. There's none; it's just different stages. Punk has always been changing and yet it was always punk

@@punkfan3280 There's a difference in all these stages punk went through. That's why they are stages. To me the biggest change was when crossover was introduced and anti-heroes became (wannebe) rockstars. A few years later we saw skate-punk/poppunk evolving; this was a massive change as well. And you could go on with this forever.

@@nancybarile1529 I damn wel lived it. From halfway 1977 until now. But eventually dementia kicks in. And everyone seems to have their own way of looking at it. And there's always been this discussions about these matters. For me punk was always evolving as an evergoing process. It still does. Even nowadays there seems to be a whole generation of young blood, starting their own bands. I don't judge, I'm just glad it's still there.

Minor Threat was not a straight edge band, and neither was SSD. Just because the person writing the lyrics feels a certain way, doesn’t mean the band is on the same train

I'll never understand their appeal. They simply couldn't write. They had no riffs or dynamics compared to the other bands on their level. And if you think that stuff doesn't matter in HC then explain to me the universal adoration of Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Black Flag, etc. Mindless blasts of nothing doesn't move me. There has to be more than speed & volume.
