This is without a doubt the best MiniPainting channel on youtube and I actuallt do mean it. Not only clips like this are full of actually usefull info, but the host has natural charisma, unique style of humor and editing and Tempo of the videos are on point. But mostly your approach to the hobby is something that actually mad me go back to painting. You struck the perfect balance between focusing and improving your painting while also finding a way to not beat yourself over mistakes, shortcommings that had stopped me many times to paint the models I thought i was "not ready" to paint yet. thank you Jay.

Paint scheme looks great! For Streaking Grime, I recommend makeup sponges. For a couple of dollars you can get a big bag, then cut them down to workable sizes with scissors. I'm using them for my space marines. I think it's also a good idea to not leave the streaking grime on too long. More work to pull off the grime.

Luckily I saw the amazing Slapchop involving Prime Black, Drybrush grey, dry brush edges white then apply contrast. Pulled out my Tupperware and am getting things ready. As someone who spends YEARS painting armies (hell, I don't think I've ever had a fully painted army) I'm actually quite jealous of his ability to knock out an army in a weekend. And they even look very cool!
@brandunk924
@brandunk924 Жыл бұрын
@@denniswijker7162 i spend longer on individual models and i'm lucky if they come out half as cool as his worst stuff. not something you would probably appreciate until you've tried painting something to a really high level like that yourself. AND he makes it look easy too. It's lucky he seems like a really genuine/cool guy or else i'd probably resent him for how talented he is lol. also, don't worry. i took a long hiatus from the hobby but i've got several years under my belt as well as well and i too have never fully painted any of my armies. Currently I am kinda close with my slaves to darkness army though!
@denniswijker7162
@denniswijker7162 Жыл бұрын
@@brandunk924 My problem seems to stem from the fact that I have 1 level of painting (which, if I'm honest to myself, is pretty decent. It's not Golden Daemon level or anything, but it's above "battle ready" so to speak. I've been painting minis for a good 20+ years now. And I cant seem to turn that off for units, so they take AGES. It's fine for single models, I spend a week or 2, 3, on a single model, and I'm happy with it. But that's a problem if you need like... 60 infantry. I would never resent someone for their skill, but being a bit jealous at how quickly he's painting to a cool level, absolutely.

You need to put a lacquer clear coat on to lock in all the base coating you did before putting the streak and grime enamel on. Capillary action will then take the enamel to the recesses of the model and the lacquer clear coat allow the mineral spirits to cleanly wipe away the enamel.

I think in the future you would be better off not waiting as long before removing enamel layers. It takes practice to find the sweet spot but normally you should start removing pretty much as soon as they look visibly dry for best results. ~20 mins per model depending on conditions. Also use make up sponges
