Penny Rimbaud is a 73-year-old artist, poet, and activist who, in 1977-alongside Steve Ignorant-founded Crass: the most influential anarcho-punk group of the 20th century. For this punk collective activism was just as important as the music. Additionally, as Rimbaud puts it, "we wanted to help people understand was a sense of autonomy and authenticity of the individual human soul."
These days Rimbaud lives in a farmhouse in the middle of the English countryside alongside fellow Crass member, artist Gee Vaucher. Together the two continue dedicate their lives to art and literature; still adhering to and promoting Crass' core values of anarchy, peace, vegetarianism, and anti-authoritarianism.

Ethan Kropp You might like the band “ proud city fathers “..been going years, supported “conflict “ on several gigs in the early 80’s and have been going on since then. They used to be called the NC’s, an enigmatic name which stands for “National Cunts” a piss take of the National Front who were a real big political force in their day. I played bass with them during those days and don’t see the guys these days although I’ve seen them at their invite a few times live. In their element on stage, you’ll find them on you tube. Worth a listen.

I truly appreciate the deeper look that we were given into Penny's mind and the past that created his belief system... whether those beliefs were related to politics, War, or religion, we saw a man affected by the times around him, and a view into the actions he took to better what he saw as Injustice, instead of merely holding an opinion and crying about life and its woes. Great documentary. Cheers from Baltimore Maryland USA! @@@.

That's why I prefer the advesary force in Tolkien's Legendarium, because for me they symbolizes the alienated, the dispossesed and the working class in broad strokes. There are even writers have written their own versions of the Tolkiens fantasy epic with a narrative that turns to the opposite, that Sauron was the good guy. One author that just wrote a more marxist variant of the lord of the rings, for which Sauron is the protagonist I think. The other was written by a feminist author that wanted to describe a tragic fantasy story, for which the good guys(which are the equivalent of Sauron's army) tragically loses the war against the divine status quo.

what a beautiful man. thank you for your example and your philosophy Penny. It seems like you life a peaceful and patient life despite the complex of humanity. I think I may have found my way of living! now just to find it for myself,, I recently discovered the poems of Wilfred Owen from the notes and. lyrics of the last Peni record, The Great War. Owen (and Blinko) conveys in his work the bittersweet sorrowjoy of living as a coincidental human on earth to the most extreme form remotely imaginable. its true art, explicitly defined- to make beauty out of horror to incite emotions to connect us across time and space.

I saw Crass 3 times in the early 80’s. As a youngster I was impressed more by their image and aesthetic rather than the music. Looking back and reading the lyrics, they strike me as rather a misanthropic bunch. The dumb, blind masses wanting to get married, own their own home, educate their kids, enjoy xmas etc really seemed to rile them. Penny’s just an elderly upper middle class gentleman, living in his country house, avoiding the hoi polloi.

Looking back on it now I've come to realise that it was precisely the misanthrophic aspect of Crass that appealed to me. I grew up in an ugly soul-destroying hick town surrounded by "the dumb, blind masses" - boring, obnoxious, ignorant stupid people who couldn't even imagine a life outside of their stagnant little pond. I also now live in the country as far away from the hoi polloi as possible and I don't make any apologies for it: the last time that rabble got into power we ended up with the Third Reich. I am profoundly anti-left - but I admire guys like this. People like this were brave and stuck to what they believed, irrespective of the reactions they provoked. It takes guts to stand up to the crowd. The modern left has cultural control and it is usually the left's opponents who fear standing up to their version of common sense. Power is a promiscuous thing and all can wield it; Rimbaud knows he had little. I hope he can view the contemporary left and see how much power it has and how readily it misuses that power.

@damianbylightning6823 2 жыл бұрын
@@cardigansarecool Leftist ideas dominate - as they have always done - by infiltration into the mainstream. Liberals, I am afraid, are leftist carriers - as are conservatives. This is modern politics. If you look at what we may call normie politics and culture, it's full of diversity, equality and inclusion along with a host of Epicurean ideas - whether or not they're compatible. What you want os a 'pure' form of leftism - which can never exist because humans won't tolerate the delusion of a 'pure form of socialism' any more than they'll tolerate a 'pure race'. All ideas are connected and or interconnected and it's silly to pretend otherwise. There's no left-right scale with the socialist being toe polar opposite of the Nazi. The left or 'the left' now dominates using any and every idea possible. Perhaos the right dominates and they do the compromise to the left thing? I suppose it depends on your view. This is what happens when you gain control in societies that need consent. Tories worked this out by the late 18th century - the 'intellectually superior' left still haven't even noticed the problems.

"The way in which a man accepts his fate and all the suffering it entails, the way in which he takes up his cross, gives him ample opportunity--even under the most difficult circumstance--to add a deeper meaning to his life. He may remain brave, dignified and unselfish. Or in the bitter fight for self-preservation he may forget his human dignity and become no more than animal. Here lies the chance for a man either to make use of or to forego the opportunities of attaining the moral values that a difficult situation might afford him. And this decides whether he is worthy of his sufferings or not." -Viktor Frankl, Mans Search for Meaning

Typically though, at least with the super anarcho types, they are always the most controlling and decide who gets booked, etc. ive had many experiences with previous bands of mine dealing with these ego-maniacs. If your politics arent pure anarchist, or you see things from both sides (politically, socially, etc) you get chewed out, labeled and banned lol Anarchy is a joke and most if not all those who preach it wouldnt last a second in a government downfall. They cant farm, fight, or do anything constructive short of begging for change and refusing to shower. I went through that phase and quickly saw how hypocritical it was, it was like the jocks in high school, rediculous. Punk is way more then one ideology, and those who want to keep it a one track, smug mindset (crass types) are the ones who will never see change. I liked Crass back when i was ypung, but i was tired of being preached too, and the fact they never made more then a few actual songs, it was easy to turn off the hippy crap. uk82, oi, thats the voice of our class.

I am the only authority is a poor philosophy. Authority means to give rights, orders and to enforce obedience. That simply means I am enslaving myself. Lose our little self importance.

honestly, saying "thats their business, not your business" referring to the police and laws and the entire judicial system sounds like a very white privileged statement. tell that to the poor black communities in america that are terrorized and murdered by the police on a daily basis. there is no ignoring that or simply not acknowledging it. it is there in your face 24/7.

Problem with victimhood is that it creates its own oppressive states of psychological imprisonment. Living on your own and blah blah blah? Was my dad being harassed and ultimately killed by the fed in Waco with my brothers and sisters first being tortured and endlessly mistreated and lied to beyond the abuses people even care to recount white privilege. You really need to start recognizing class struggle and stop dividing things into race and gender because it perpetuates the very oppression you claim to hate.

Pete's Guitar Lessons TV that’s not what that means. Can you perhaps entertain another potential connotation or denotation that would have you arrive at a more sensible conclusion instead of assuming I’m essentially the dummy you wish me to be. That’s just asinine. This platform is infinitely more, though less and less thanks to the media I’m referring to and it’s entities, accessible to perspectives that aren’t limited to the mental plantation of the legacy media and the inherent racism and oppressive stipulative definitions words like racism and even white cull... it is a fine display of using the initial good intentions and recognition of good will against everyone. But yeah let’s just beg the question without any recognition of actual ratios and stats and anecdotes or false narratives and where actual violence outside potential which is the worst kind of evil one can exploit in the other: In the end, looking above, haha I don’t think you and I were in disagreement.
