I really enjoyed this. So often HA content is aimed at integrating the device, some of us love a bit of detail.

This is very cool, I didn't even know this functionality existed. And you did an excellent job in explaining and demonstrating it. Wow, so clear so concise, I don't know if you do this kind of work professionally, but if you do, I won't be surprised. Definitely gonna play with this sum, I'm not sure exactly how I will use it but I'm definitely gonna add this to my toolbelt. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for this video, I wanted to express my gratitude for the valuable video and information you recently shared with us. It has been incredibly insightful and beneficial. In light of the knowledge gained, I am eager to delve deeper into Home Assistant WebSocket API and REST API testing using Postman. I believe hands-on experience in this area will further enhance my understanding and proficiency. If possible, could you kindly provide a tutorial or guidance on conducting Home Assistant WebSocket API and REST API testing in Postman? Real-time feedback would be immensely appreciated, as it would contribute significantly to the practical application of the concepts learned. Your assistance in this matter would be invaluable, and I am confident that such a tutorial would not only benefit me but also others in the community who share a similar interest in Home Assistant API testing. Thank you once again for your time and for sharing your expertise. I look forward to any guidance or resources you may provide.

Great explanation, sub'd. I would love more "make Home Assistant talk to anything" content like this. Getting started where I have an IOT device that streams data via a get with the data in the URL params, it seems like I need to do something with NodeRed to get this to work but after 20 min of fiddling it seems like it doesnt do it. I cant see anything in the logs, either.

Thank you. A bit of an eye opener for me. Always great to see different ways of doing things. Got my nuc powered up with home assistant OS. And now ready to go for configuring my devices... Postman, and your advice will definitely come in handy! Not very clued up with WebSockets - as yet - but will spend some time trying to figure it out! Keep up the good work!

Thank you! I am still getting started with HA, setting up my devices too. So we can learn together.

I just wonder if I should not move away from home assistant all together, and perhaps check for some alternatives. Maybe you know? I am struggling with stuff, I should not be struggling with in HA OS, such like getting my zigbee stick (zigbee2mqtt) to work properly with HA... I find it very unstable, and difficult to pinpoint potential problems... I first tried HA with a docker installation and then the zigbee stick and zigbee2mqtt worked properly. But working with docker containers, is not obvious when you want to work with add-ons. I need the add-ons, because I also work with esp32 devices, and my older sonoff devices that do not have the zigbee protocol. Hence I moved back to HA OS. But struggle, now... Not sure, now what to do next... I feel I should move back again to the HA docker environment and give it another shot... Maybe you have some suggestions? @@joycejetson

Everything I've seen says HA OS is the best. Which zigbee stick are you using? @@stefanschouteden5196

Strangely, I used the proxmox installation (as a last resort), and the zigbee stick now seems to be working ok. Also the installation of ha os with proxmox (vm with containers...) was very easy. I still need to find a proper way for my zigbee devices to operate flawlesly. Have some routers, but still need to figure out, how best to set up the mesh zigbee network...

Btw I use the sonoff itead zigbee stick, the E type. I know they recommend the other one, with the chipset of Texss Instruments, but they are not too easy to get hold of in SA....

great video as trying to get my autofeeder to work using websockets. My question is that I can use postman following your process but can I fire a websocket command to the sensor using Home Assistant instead of using Postman?
@joycejetson

I don't think HA has a button or client in the interface to send a WS message, the way it has one for MQTT.

@@joycejetson so the only way to get sensor data via websocket is using something like Postman?

@@mauriceatkinson9520 if you want to retrieve data from HA to then do something else, maybe look at this example: community.home-assistant.io/t/web-socket-sensor/79633/8

@@joycejetson Hi I had a look but this is beyond my capabilities. I really want to get this implemented, is there a good place where I can hire a programmer that you know about?
