Nice video. I was a Flight Engineer on the ALOIII in the South African Air Force back in the 90's. Got 600 hours flight time and 4 years experience as ground crew and 3 years as flight crew. The trap door you mentioned always gets lowered when we used the winch. 1. for sea rescue because we had a sea bath mounted in the back and 2. moutain rescue for easy access to get the person on the winch inside. We also had other configurations such as gun mounted combat. This came from the border war days back in 80's. Basically a 20mm cannon with open optic site mounted in the rear behind the pilot with the left door open and the barrel sticking out the side. We also did coastal patrol and rescue with the side mounted floats. Mid 90's we converted the engine intake filters to a centrifugal sytem and ditched the old paper filter. Was the best experience of my life.

Lovely that they included the Irish Air Corps. I had a second cousin who flew one of these for the IAC and after a holiday in France I dropped some wine in for him at Casement aerodrome. He arrived back at my house a few seconds after I got home and hovered a few feet over the roof in an Alouette III waving an enthusiastic thanks. The sound at close quarters is immense. Fantastic machine, fantastic guy.

@@cgaviator It was. R22s notwithstanding, helicopters at very close quarters are hugely impressive. Especially when they pretty much land on your chimney. Though I do have a better story. Summer, a good few years ago now, family vacation, Dordogne valley (France), one of my 3 sisters and a local tennis bum who she took a fancy to. She was caught smooching him in a field next to some hay bales one evening and for the next few days we teased her mercilessly about Giant Haystacks as the tennis guy was now christened. Keen to get me onside and knowing how much I love aircraft, she told me that Haystacks was joining the Armee de L’Air and that he had a brother who was already a fast jet pilot. I called total BS on all of that. She told Haystacks as much and he took umbrage. As, it seems, did his brother. The day after I called nonsense on all of the Armee de L’Air stuff, I was in the pool at the house we were renting, trying to get out of the heat and was chatting with one of my other sisters when her mouth dropped wide open and she pointed behind me. I turned to see a pair of Jaguars at about 250 feet, less than quarter of a mile away, on a run directly at our house. The lead pulled up very slightly before passing overhead, but his wing man dropped to considerably less than 100 feet and thundered directly over the pool I was in…so low that he had to tip a wing to squeeze his aircraft between our house and our neighbour’s. This all happened in a couple of seconds. It also sounds a bit exaggerated, but I swear that it isn’t. That lunatic legend shook a couple of tiles loose and I’m almost certain he cut it closer than he meant to. He pulled up to join his lead and the two of them zoomed off in close formation down the valley in a lovely haze of heat and noise. I was massively impressed and it was an incredible moment to see a beautiful machine like that so incredibly close and loud. I got strafed - minus all the expensive and pointy ordinance. Anyway. Fantastic to see you back, CG. Hope you have a lovely Christmas and I hope to see some more content from you soon. 🤗 Edit: It goes without saying that I know of your own fast jet experience on the more enviable side of the canopy. But for us civilians, the rare close encounters are incredible. I’ve also has RAF Tornadoes in the North of Scotland buzz my car - that was also magic. GT3, very early, I wasn’t hanging around and the roads were empty - I guess they fancied a look at the only other fast mover for miles.

Hi, in South Africa, the military use to use these choppers in the late 60's, 70's up to the 80's. They were coloured in a camouflage. South Africa was at the time in border warfare with so called terrorist who wanted to overthrow the country. I'm not much with the history, as i was much younger at the time, saw a few of these choppers flying over my home when they landed at the local government hospital dropping of patients that were at the time subdued by military R1 rounds. This was when the country itself was under civil political unrest, but anyway enjoyed the flight and keep it coming. Thanks

I flew a few times in them when I lived in Switzerland. My dad flew many, many times to go work to dams in Valais when roads were closed due to bad weather. A pilot scared him when he showed him what this helicopter could do. My dad told me he hit his head a few times against the ceiling when the pilot was doing crazy maneuvers... The Alouette III first flight was in ... 1959! Switzerland HAD TO retire them because of the 2 turbines EU laws, but they were extremely reliable, and the view from the cockpit is fantastic. There have been a few crashes hitting cables, and over confident pilots, like the one who flew my dad a few years later sadly crashed and died...

@@cgaviator Irish Air Corps. I was in a photo recce Sqn . I mainly flew on fixed wing maritime patrols but we used helicopters regularly for recce for the army and SOF. Sad day when they retired in 2007 after 44 years service and many lives saved in the SAR role. Very stable platform for photo work. The sound of the Artouste engine was very distinctive and will stay with me for life as not only did I hear it everyday in work but I grew up near the courts where they would provide top cover during the troubles when terrorists were being tried. Actually the first aircraft I ever seen as a toddler and I ended up flying in the very same ones many years later.

After seeing this come out it makes me regret buying the vanilla HPG H145. Now I'll have to spend around the same amount of money to get the added features one way or the other. For me I now need Cowan Sim to bring their Bell 222 to MSFS, and that will be the only helicopter I will need from that point forward.

@@cgaviator While I don't disagree with you, the Huey is my all time favorite helicopter, when it comes to siming, I am a bit more practical and don't like to have multiple aircraft that do the same thing. I guess one way to do that would be to buy this instead of the Action Pack for the HPG H145, then I would have a vanilla H145 and the older AIII to do the rescue stuff, though admittedly the HPG Action Pack adds a lot of animated features so it really becomes, $35 for the Action Pack or $30 for the AIII?
@cgaviator
@cgaviator Жыл бұрын
@@ImpendingJoker to me that would be down to handling preference. The 145 action pack is astonishing and leaps beyond anything else in the sim. Only reason I don’t fly it as much is it’s a dab complex and the flying isn’t as fun. The MilViz huey should be good!

@@cgaviator Oh, I didn't know MilViz was ruining another aircraft. They did a pretty poor job on the Huey for FS9/FSX back in the day.
