If you've been following the PC hardware scene in the past few weeks, you'll know that AMD's AM5 platform and its Ryzen 7000 series of processors face a serious pricing and value issue, especially up against Intel's newly released 13th Gen Raptor Lake processors that are now dominating the performance and value charts. With the release of AMD's mid-range B650E and B650 chipsets, could boards powered by these chips turn the tide for Team Red, especially at the mid-range?
In today's video, ALKtech checks out a motherboard sporting the AMD B650E chipset that is positioned on the higher-end of the spectrum - the ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI. Watch on to find out if this board could bring better value to the table for potential Ryzen 7000 series owners!

Which one is better the b650E -E or the B650E -F?

@@wankerkathe B650E-E has more features. such as dual PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and dual PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slots - the B650E-F on the other hand comes with one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot and one PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slot. Glad that you found this video useful! At least the M.2 slot in this board doesn't share its bandwidth with a more "crucial" slot...there are some implementations of Intel Z790 boards where in order to serve up PCIe 5.0 M.2 drive connectivity, board manufacturers have had to split the PCIe 5.0 x16 lanes for a graphics card into two, such that if a M.2 SSD is installed in the said Gen 5 M.2 slot, the bandwidth of the graphics card slot will be reduced...this is because unlike AMD's offerings, the Intel Z790 chipset doesn't serve up native PCIe 5.0 support for M.2 drives!

Same overclocking tools available as the X670E. Basically unless you need that many USB and SATA ports, B650 will be just fine and B650E if you want to try and future proof somewhat. Honestly though I believe that we will see AM6 before we see graphics cards that require PCIe Gen5. Personally I like the TUF B650. Same power delivery as this board, not as many USB ports (I personally don't need that many) and no extra money being thrown at PCIe Gen 5 which we cannot even use yet.

For the CPU over Voltage jumper, do you need this if you’re using EXPO designated RAM, such as Crucial X5 series?
@ALKtech

Nope - if I'm not mistaken, the jumper is meant to remove CPU voltage protection limits within the BIOS - more applicable for folks intending to do extreme CPU overclocking! @ALKtech Жыл бұрын
What resolution do you intend to game at and at what kinds of graphics settings? 1440p? Maxed out graphics details? Since you're building a sorta high-end gaming PC, a 1000W PSU's always handy to have to afford some headroom for future upgrades, but this would be largely influenced by which graphics card you'll be getting. Personally, I would be looking at minimally a RTX 4070 Ti/RX 7900 XT and above kinda graphics card to pair with the 7900X, but which card would be very much dependent on the price situation where you're from too!

I went in to the computer store where I bought it and asked them what they thought and they didn't really understand that reasoning, hehe. There's also like a spreadsheet where one can check these things out but I can't find them anymore. It was a spreadsheet of a bunch of MOBO's of all classes and what CPU's they could support, power and cooling solutions etc. To be honest I don't think it would be an issue to try the 5800X 3D, but it would be nice to know beforehand. :)

You should be fine with DDR5 6000 RAMs - would be good to check out ASUS's RAM QVL list to see if your memory is on the list of tested ones for a peace of mind. It's technically an OC as for example, the DDR5 6000 RAMs that you intend to use, need to be set to the EXPO/XMP profile from within the BIOS in order to run at the 6000MT/s, otherwise they'd run at some much slower default speed!

Hi, these Qualified Vendor Lists on the website may not be the most up-to-date. What is the difference between 12+2 and 16+2?
@ALKtech
@ALKtech Жыл бұрын
In a nutshell, your PC's power supply sends 12 volts of power to the motherboard that is destined for the processor. Your motherboard then uses its VRMs to step down the said 12 volts to the processor's specified operating voltage (usually around say, 1.2 volts to 1.3 volts etc). With the above in mind, the first number before the + refers to the number of VRM "phases" that the said 12 volts of power goes through to get stepped-down - the larger the number, the more phases the power goes through to get stepped down, and therefore, the "cleaner" the power gets before it's sent to the processor. In general, the larger the number before the +, the better, as this would indicate more voltage stability. This is usually more relevant in the context of high-end processors that may draw large amounts of power, or if you're intending to overclock your CPU. Hope this helps!

Is it better than the X670E Asus Tuf?

Depend on your needs. That board have better VRM

Are you referring to the TUF Gaming X670E-PLUS WIFI? If so, both boards are quite similar in terms of base features, with key differences being 1) board aesthetics 2) VRM configuration 3) audio setup 4) Ethernet chipset and 5) price. Depending on where you're from, the ROG STRIX B650E-F is the cheaper offering, and on the whole, I feel that it has the better overall feature set versus the TUF Gaming X670E. I personally prefer the aesthetics of the ROG STRIX B650E-F board, which also has the Realtek 4080 audio codec and Savitech amp chip (vs a Realtek S1220A for the TUF Gaming with no third-party amp chip), coupled with Intel 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet (vs Realtek 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet for the TUF Gaming). The TUF Gaming also has 14+2 power stages rated for up to 70A each, whilst the ROG STRIX has 12+2 power stages rated for up to 80A each. Hope the info above is useful!

X670E is ready for the new DDR5 and NVME enhancements that the B650E is not, as well as other features not found on the B550 chipset mobos

What... the B650-E is more than capable with DDR5 and NVME hahaha.... if you are referring to pcie 5.0 with nvme, the 4090 doesnt even use full pcie 4.0 bandwidth...
