Agree with all of this and this is exactly what I’m doing and practicing. It definitely speeds things up! Also helps if you don’t have to work , so I’m retiring to spend more time playing 😂

Fantastic advice. Your applications of growth mindset and ZPD are spot on. These are elements of good teaching across all subjects in school and wholly appropriate for sports as well.

Your videos are so insightful. I love sports psychology and if I had to choose a Pickleball channel to fit that category the most, it’d be yours because of the often themes I see. Cheers

Per usual your videos are so helpful. Just like I told you when we met at MiLP nationals a week or so ago, I meant it! Thanks 🙌🏾

Step 1: Focus on the fundamentals - get to the kitchen and dink at the kitchen Step 2: Focus your training. Work on just one thing at a time: one ability, one shot, one adjustment. Ask yourself what you need to work on the most. Step 3:Develop a "growth mindset, not a "fixed" mindset. Continue to seek out new challenges. Step 4: Play with people who are right around your level, maybe a *little* bit better. Step 5: Play tournaments to find appropriate practice partners, and to get tournament practice.

Playing with better players along with drilling the weak parts of ur game is the fastest way to improve. Now getting better players to play with you is very hard to coordinate

I agree. On occasion I can play with a group better than me and they will accommodate me for a game or two but they are also trying to get better so want to play with those that are equal to or better than they are.

You participating in the upcoming CAPA in January? I'm also here in SoCal -- good community here in Conejo Valley area with great courts and competition in Simi Valley (Duck Pond), Thousand Oaks (Rancho Conejo Playfields), etc.

Do you think k investing in a ball machine is worth it? It is difficult to find people to drill with.

I’m not a huge fan of ball machines but I could see it being a decent option if drilling isn’t possible!

Ok, just watched this. First, I agree with all your steps. but you dont mention age. age, definitely impacts moving up in skill level. I try to practice not just play. I dont have players close by, so that impacts the challenge step. Zone of Proximal Development is great term. I will use this. I have played with players past that zone. it definitely does not help to improve your game. thanks for your videos. like your style.

@@bangerpickleballHe is right, there is zero consideration to age. Only rank based on skill level. What you can and can’t do. Bah,bah, bah. Total rubbish age ain’t even considered. BTW, I am 70.

this video is how you should focus on specific things to get better. You can improve at any age. If you take two 70 year olds and one hyper focuses on certain aspects of their game, they are going to beat the other person. This video is not about saying someone who is 70 should ever outplay someone in their 20s.@@robertcuomo7084

After becoming more than a pure beginner, for a year I used a muffin serve that was basically just an enlarged 3rd shot drop. It was slow, had a big bounce, super reliable even in windy conditions, and I dropped it within two feet of the baseline nearly every time (unless a gale was blowing). When it came time to learn my 3rd shot drop, I basically scaled down the serve I had practiced every game for a year, and I had it almost immediately. You _can_ find ways to practice fundamentals in open play, but you have to be clever about it.

That's certainly a way....but it's not effective for many crucial skills like resetting really aggressive speedups. That kind of stuff you do need another person that isn't incompetent on the other side of the net.

You lucky you have pickleball. No other sport can you get really good without years of drills practice and not spending alot of money. Guess thats got to tell you something about the sport. Thats its more mental than physical though one needs some physical skillz?

Or what you could do is falsely report fake matches like a lot of people have done in DUPR
@TakeTheFallActHurtGetIndignant
@TakeTheFallActHurtGetIndignant 7 ай бұрын
But that's actually really hard to do, because DUPR requires that at least 1 opponent validates your match result. So you would have to make a bunch of fake accounts to enter as your opponents so you could validate them. But those accounts wouldn't have any match history themselves, and certainly wouldn't have a high rating, so you would have to make a fake match history - which presents the same dilemma. So how exactly do you think people are doing this?

This vid feels so clickbaity. getting to 5.0 takes a long time, there isn't a cheat code. Sure, if I had a private coach and trained almost every day of the week I could be 5.0 in 6 months or a year, but almost no person has the time and resources
