I know adding a alternator is out of the question, it would take away from your power plus you don’t want that. My question is could you add flexible solar panels without disturbing the air flow or adding to much weight so the battery charges while flying in the daylight?

Great wee plane. I’ve only flown an S-2B so Incan only imagine how much more responsive the S1 is!!!
@pittss2c6013 жыл бұрын
There is a big difference. All the S2's are very easy to fly and land compared to the S1's. However the controls on the S1 is so much fun since everything is super light.
@BenLomov3 жыл бұрын
That's correct! I was actually very surprised with how different the two variants fly. I was expecting the S1 to be more touchy and all, but I was still surprised. Nothing can really prep you for that moment 😁
@benvankampen92593 жыл бұрын
I have to agree. Flying my S1C was magical; so light and it flew like it was on rails. However, I do prefer the S2S. It has a bit more mass, but is still very responsive and much easier to land.

A lot of professional aerobatic performers also compete in air racing. Are you thinking about doing that as well? Also you mentioned having to switch to a mono wing aircraft at some point, but there are other niche areas of aerobatic performing where you can stay in a biplane. It’s not going to be the highest level of air about a competition, per se, but there are a lot of successful performers flying Stearman‘s and other similar aircraft.

Awesome Video! I just got a Skybolt and am going to work my way up to IAC. What kind of prop is that? You mentioned the prop being ground adjustable, I have the same engine and only a simple fixed pitch but am trying to look into other ground adjustable, in-flight adjustable, or constant speed options.
@BenLomov3 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome, hope to see you around sometime. And I don’t know why I said that to be completely honest. I think I just got carried away with all the talking I was doing, but mine is a simple fixed pitch metal prop. It’s not adjustable at all. You can get propellers that are adjustable on the ground, but they are not so common. Getting a constant speed prop would be the best thing you can do, but it’s also the most expensive/complicated way to go about it. But I think you would do just fine without it as well. Most Pitts have a fixed pitch prop.
@AverageAviator3 жыл бұрын
@@BenLomov ahh that makes more sense, I know how it goes when making videos, mine aren't nearly as refined as yours haha I found some interesting electric in-flight adjustable options but it will probably be a while before I make the switch, I've gotta learn how to fly the Skybolt well first!

One of the reasons I wouldn’t mind moving to the USA, is for the aviation. Over here in the UK, we don’t have the “experimental” option, we only really have the certified. The only exception that I can think of, are those in the UK that are crazy enough to build their own plane. But it has to be certified by the CAA. The wood and glue has to be certified for use, the steel, aluminium. It’s a major headache and nowhere near as easy as in the USA. For better or worse, who knows. There’s no real data to say that the UK’s system is safer and visa versa.

Can you give me an idea of insurance cost for an S1?
@BenLomov3 жыл бұрын
Hey ya so for starters I couldn't even get any companies to give me a quote. Nobody wanted the liability. I finally received only one, and so that's who I had to go with. But it REALLY depends on your hours (I was very low time), and what you want (I wanted full hull coverage). If I remember correctly, I think I had to pay about $5,000 my first year, and about $5,500 my second (for some reason insurance went up across the board). As always, you can choose to pay monthly with a percentage, or the full amount right away. I always did the full amount just to get it over with and save some money. Hope that helps!
