How I Won My 1st Aerobatic Competition

This is the tale of my first aerobatic competition which took place back in November of 2019. The International Aerobatic Club (IAC) Chapter 26 hosted this contest at General William J. Fox Airfield in Lancaster CA. I flew my Pitts Special (S-1S) Biplane down there not really knowing what to expect, but somehow I managed to walk away with the W. This was a weekend that I'll never forget, hopefully you enjoyed it too 😃.

After seeing your other videos, vlogging skills, editing skills and flying skills I genuinely thought this channel was a multi million subscriber channel. It’s just so entertaining and exciting! That’s interesting because usually I hear the exact opposite from unbiased spectators 😂. I'm all for it except he charges by the minute for screen time, so until my channel blows up a cameo every once in a while will have to do.

Lol i like how they were saying the musical road was a good even though it was a complete disaster. It sounds so off because when they made the calculations for the distance between grooves to give the frequency for a certain pitch the crew making the road took it as the distance between the end of one groove and the start of the next instead of from the start of one groove to the start of the next.

I am still a kid and I literally would do anything to just be able to do the things you did in this video every time I think about "what do I want to do when I grow up?" which sounds cringing but any way let me get to the point. I am a skilled musician and that comment may or may not have destroyed my brain about three times :)

It's cool seeing the plane that I am getting my flight training in sitting on the ramp at Barnes Aviation! The "musical road" actually sounds better at 70 MPH, not that I would encourage speeding.

Another great video Ben! Congrats on the Win! I like watching your rudder on landing. When I got my tail wheel endorsement my IP called it “Happy Feet”, he said you had to have happy feet. I like how you fly the airplane when you are on the ground. That’s the way I was tough, when I got my PP in Alaska. The pilot must always be aware of where the flight controls need to be, even on the ground and especially while taxiing. I love your Pitts, it’s a nice looking “tiny” airplane...there was a time in my life when I wanted to build an RV-8, but life happened and it never happened. Fly safe brother!

Great video! I love your style. I’m a flight instructor and aircraft mechanic in Canada (currently bored out of my mind working at a paper mill during Covid). Your enthusiasm has just given me that final push to return to flying and reach for my dream of becoming a medevac pilot. BTW, I helped build and test the Bombardier 415 water bomber in the background near the end of your video. Small world.

They also have it in Rigs of Rods, and funny enough, the Pitts is my favorite one to fly.

It is not exactly the same though, in Flight Simulator is the S2S (similar to the S2B, with 6-cylinder engine), while Ben has the S1S which has a 4-cylinder. And - as a sidenote - for aerobatic planes the physics of Microsoft Flight Sim are pretty bad at the moment.

Watching your channel is like stepping into a time machine, my family and I went to the Oshkosh airshow 5 times between 1977 and 1984 and I got to see a stunt team perform in the Pitts as well as the Christen Eagle and I am taken back to those years when I was all of 7-14 years old.

Okay so this video randomly popped up in my recommendations, what I really loved wasn't just the competition but you making lill' jokes with your brother, exploring random unkoown things & talking the way u do (really fast), I'd say keep it, it's fun to listen to. I'd say push harder to these vlogging videos ft. Your plane, after ofcourse the world reumes to being normal ( wait, it wasn't exactly normal, was it?)

Love the video! I'm in to all things "airplane". Unfortunately never became a pilot but I enjoy the RC Hobby (35 years now) and work for an aerospace company.
