Here in Australia, we fish much lighter. Lighter because you get more bites. The ganged hook pilchard rig is one of our best rigs. It uses the weight of the bait for casting. There in Japan, I'd throw in a heap of chum to distract those puffers and fish a livebait.

Is that why the Japanese chum so much, to distract the small fish. Or is it the combination of small fish attract the big fish and the chum smell?

@gp4103 Yep both. The chum attracts small fish which themselves are an attraction, and food scent attracts larger fish. We don't have many puffers where I live, just other bait swallowing pests.

Hi Niall. No I have not seen that rig! But I will have a look. The Lack of fish in my proximity, is mostly down to the time of year. The Japanese right now, are all catching pretty small fish in this area. What I hope to catch a stingrays or some type of skate. Thanks Brother 😁👌
