I understand the pick. The Falcons did not have a succession plan for life after Matt. Cousins is a 2 maybe 3 year stop gap, have to find the next 10-15 year QB1 He's Got Next! MPJr

Why is it so hard to understand that we had a top 10 defense and a top 10 offensive line last year. We are in win now mode! We only needed a QB and we had the money to do so! Y’all be counting pockets like it’s coming outta your check. Kirk’s deal is only 2 years guaranteed. We have flexibility. Maybe you’ve had the luxury of having a QB but we haven’t. We learned from our mistakes by not drafting Matt Ryan’s successor and we did it by potentially getting the best QB in this draft. MPJ wasnt supposed drop that far, but he did and turns out he was our guy. Also Kirk is injury prone. It’s all about insurance for now and the future. Simple logic. I swear yall are just willfully obtuse. When we’re winning I don’t wanna hear nothing about it’s the best pick on these redo draft boards in 3 years.

the argument is that we are wasting resources (funds) that we could use for free agency in 2026 and 27. When we cut or trade kirk before the 2026 season we will still be eating his contract for 2 more years against the cap. That is the argument being made in this video if you watched it. It's a very valid argument. I'm a falcons fan btw. I'd have felt better if we didn't sign cousins at all, or had only signed him for 2 years total

one of the best arguments against taking penix I've heard is from Graziani in this video. the argument is that the falcons are wasting resources (funds) that we could use for free agency in 2026 and 27. When we cut or trade kirk before the 2026 season we will still be eating his contract for 2 more years against the cap. That is the argument being made in this video if you watched it. It's a very valid argument. I'm a falcons fan btw. I'd have felt better if we didn't sign cousins at all, or had only signed him for 2 years total

Penix was a very smart pick you forgot Kirk cousins is 37 and coming off of Achilles injury. Aaron Rogers did the same thing and he was injured the fourth play of last year. The jets season was over. I’m not saying they are the same but an Achilles isn’t a sprain ankle…🙏🏾 so having him there for now and or later is very smart look at the jets

If he 37 and coming off of achilles injury, then why gave him 180 millions with 100 millions guaranty. It is not an efficient way to do business.

@@tom20152 it’s because he was the top free agent Qb, his performance before his injury was great, and also they had the money to do so. They also could get MORE money from reconstructing other players contracts, so I would assume they aren’t done getting players

Jeebus Forking Cripes... the Michael Penix Jr. whinging is getting on my nerves. The mistake wasnt drafting Michael Penix. The mistake was signing Kirk Cousins for $100M. Dude has earned more than Tom Brady, but only has 1 playoff win. 3. People are pretending as if Falcons drafting Laiatu Latu or Dallas Turner would have been the piece for Kirk Cousins to take the Falcons to the Superbowl. Kirk Cousins could have JJ Watt and Nick Bosa and he still wouldnt go to the Superbowl. 4. 14 starting QBs got injured in 2023. Therefore you might as well take a very good QB in the 1st round and a good Defensive End in the 2nd round and thats exactly what Atlanta did.

Well Atlanta paid a QB 180 mil over 4 years and then spent a top 10 pick on another QB who probably won't play for at least 2 seasons unless there's an injury, Dallas drafted players to try and help their team win now...

⁠⁠@@keenannash2947well firstly we’re not actually paying Kirk the full 180 mil and he’s not staying for the full 4 years. It’s actually a 2 year guaranteed 100 mill. And this pick is to insure that when Kirk leaves we already have a plan at QB in contrast to what we did with Matt Ryan when we didn’t have a plan at QB after him

@@DannymotionGaming that's still dumb, you drafted an older ready to start QB just to sit him until he's 26... Not to mention you will have a $25 mil dead cap charge if you cut Kirk after 2 seasons so you won't see any benefits from the reduced cost of a QB on a rookie contract. If you were gonna draft Penix, you could have signed Wilkins and Huff, and maybe another player instead of getting Kirk. Good organizations don't spend $100 million in guaranteed salary on their insurance policy players.

@@keenannash2947 you’re also missing the fact that Arthur blank wants to win now and go to the playoffs this season, which is another reason for signing Kirk, and also just in case he gets injured again. And penix being 26 starting isn’t bad at all, most franchise QBs tend to play for 10 years. It’s not like he’s going to start when he’s 30. And for his injury history, he’s been healthy the last two seasons. All in all picking penix was for the future of the team and signing Kirk was for winning the division now
