Ormeau Brewing Co. Brewery Tour - A Fantastic Gem In Belfast.
Ormeau Brewing Co. is a nano brewery on Ormeau Road in Belfast. We spoke to Andy, the owner/operator, about his journey and his plans for the brewery. Although this is a small brewery, it has a lot of heart- it is a true brewery for its community. The beers made here are sold locally in pubs and taprooms.
Being a small brewery, Andy needs to be hands-on. Canning, kegging and even grain milling are all done by hand. Andy's main brewing kettle is 150L, and a typical brew day will take about 12 hours to full one of three 300L fermentation tanks.

Brilliant guys. Perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the craft beer producers from conception to consumption. Upward and onward Ormeau. Went out of my way recently to get to Northern Lights to enjoy some of your fine products.

We love what we do and love the beer industry but it is also a tough environment to succeed in. Talk to your local brewery and see if they would let you help out a few days to see if its for you

I’d recommend contacting your local brewery and asking if you can help out a few days and speak to as many brewery owners as you can. Where are you based?

@@Al-Brewster I’m sure there is space for another brewery in that area, i would recommend the brewpub model as the most likely to succeed, securing your distribution is key to success hence why i recommend the selling direct approach

I found it interesting that it's a struggle to make a highly hopped beer that's also profitable - that's a pro tip for anyone looking to start a brewery, you're going to make it harder for yourself if that's one of the main styles you want to grow on at the beginning. Would love more videos with brewery owners at this level of the market

Everything comes back to the damaging licensing laws in NI. Stops competition, encourages cartelism and is why it's £3 more a pint in Belfast compared to Sheffield.
