The show so far shows her as callous in her mission, this episode shows she is not fully that way. She has a heart she does care deep down but is totally consumed by her revenge that she buried it to reach her goal. After these end discussions I look forward to next reactions…. The character arcs from here on in are intriguing

THE KOMUSO: Prior to watching the duel, Mizu and Ringo give way in the street to a group of komuso. This is the show just layering the subtext in what is a seemingly insignificant, brief encounter. Komuso were mendicant monks who, despite their Fuke sect of Zen Buddhism not being officially acknowledged, were given special permission by the shogunate to freely travel during Edo. They apparently had to be samurai, which meant they were technically ronin. They wore tengai, straw hats ll shaped like overturned baskets, in order to conceal their identities and negate their egos. And as they pass Mizu, they are practicing suizen,* a form of meditation through the playing of shakuhachi, as a means of attaining enlightenment. So, to sum up, we have warriors who consider themselves “nothing,” considered without status by society, openly traveling incognito on a path to self-actualization. Sound like anyone we know? *According to Wikipedia, apparently scholars claim that the practice of “suizen” is modern, finding no substantiation for its existence prior to the twentieth century. Still, I feel it’s important to point out that one of the characters used in the word itself is “sui,” which is the on’yomi reading of… mizu.

So, the fact that she’s hiding her eyes makes everyone around her think she’s hiding something: her eyes. It never occurs to them she’s hiding two things. It is just as hard for women as it is for men to “reject a freshly cooked meal while hungry” trust me.

This show is amazing and it covered a lot of truths about how some Hapa people. I grew up actually hating foreign people alike the natives too despite being mixed ethnicity.

I can't help but feel like theres more to this than we were told. Treating soars, but we don't see any visible damage to her body. She didn't seem scared when rejecting the sign, the significance of finding out the bird mizu killed, will have eggs that will never hatch, and most importantly, how ANGRY boss hamata was at her death. I think she was pregnant, and isn't being abused. The doctor was not treating soars from. Beatings, but soothing pregnancy cramps

THE DUEL: Considering the respective positions of the two men when they begin and end the duel, the dynamics of the draw cut made by the unshaven samurai would make the result of the cut an impossibility. The cut would occur on the left side of his opponent’s neck, not the right.

Both of you should play Zelda: Windwaker. The stealth portions of that game had me mixed on the seriousness and humor of it. I think it rode the line between making me mad and making me laugh better than most games. That game is a gem, and I'm due for a replay tbh. Gosh. That's a game that deserved a sequel. Oh. Ahhhh. It actually did have sequels, I just disliked them so much I disassociated them from it and did my best to forget them. They are not the same as Windwaker. Not even close.

Your argument is basically, so long as someone thinks they're the hero of their own story, then their actions don't matter. Every murderer would get off on account of being an internally good person by your definition.
