The show does a good job of making every character gray. None of them are purely bad or purely good. They're just human, which makes them more relatable.

What I’m just now realizing is, regardless of Paul being younger not so mature, he probably wouldn’t have asked Amy for money if she didn’t offer it up the first time.

doesnt have to be physical to be an affair........ and i cant recall ever talking to a "friend" and say "i love you" especially the way he did. it was CLEARLY romantic not platonic

George is having an emotional affair, which is just as bad as Amy screwing Paul. They're just looking for different validations, as George seems to need a strong emotional connection whereas Amy needs physical validation.

Eh... Both are wrong for cheating, but Amy is much more in the wrong. Her cheating isnt just physical, it is also emotional and unlike George she actually does the full thing. Not only that, her affair only comes about through her manipulation of Paul.

Amy is not the antagonist, for me, both Amy and Danny are main characters and antagonists to each other.

We have seen George creep on Mia’s pictures AND say “I love you.” Even if it stops there, it’s definitely inappropriate.

Something I didn't notice on the first watch is that George even says "I love you, too", so Mia was definitely up to some sh*t 😂

From the long duck dong sixteen candles racist portrayal in mainstream culture to YG instructing his listeners in a song "meet the blockers" to rob Asian people, America is constantly supporting content that keeps us the foreigner, the enemy, the target, the guys who don't get the girl, etc. So, I completely agree we need more Beef. "Lost" went down in TV history for Jin and Sun's kiss as the first Asian couple humanizing Asian on American TV. Then Glenn broke more stereotypes, so yes times are finally changing for us in the arts and that's important because half of these racist might not be racists if they had admired a an Asian public figure, rapper, actor, etc. while growing up. Instead they didn't see us at all or learn our POV stories on racism. And when they did get a glimpse of us it was Jackie Chan getting bullied by Chris Tucker, or William Hung or some stereotype.

George is having an emotional affair while Amy is having a physical one. as for "who is the bad guy", this show doesn't really lend itself to that question. Amy and Danny are both deeply flawed characters who have made very bad decisions. the brilliance of the show is that it is very nuanced and allows you to see all the characters in a very realistic way, not just as good or bad.

I’m not sure why Jaby gets so bothered when Achara shares her opinions sometimes? Obviously your not going to see things the same way and thats ok 🙂 Ashara suspecting George of having an affair is totally valid! Having an attractive, charismatic, asian male lead in a movie like Crazy Rich Asians definitely affect’s the way people view men of that race! And both Ali and Steven are troubled so you can think either one is the bad guy..🤷🏻‍♀️💛

As messed up as Amy and Danny are, I see Danny more as an antagonist than Amy. He was the one who went to her house and pee all over her bathroom. If he didn't do that I don't think things would have escalated as much. Yes. She gave him the middle finger and whatever but I think the beef would have ended after the car chase since they are both from different social circles..

While the sex scene is really graphic, I don’t think it is gratuitous. It seems very intentional both as a way to change the viewer’s perception of Amy and as you mentioned, the broader depiction is Asian men. You mentioned the statistics from dating apps, and yes the hard research into that is truly dismal on many metrics. Folks should look more deeply into what’s been published on it if they want to get truly depressed.

@@JoshV_TX Yeah I didn't really see it as a way to address Asian men in media. I agree with you that they made it graphic to show a contrast between her intimacy with George and Paul. Also the fact that we're this close as a witness knowing all that's happening makes the viewer more uncomfortable.
