Which Jazzmasters should I get rid of?

There comes a time when we have to admit that we're just not going to play all those Jazzmasters-and this is that time. So I'm taking some tips from Marie Kondo, picking up each of my Jazzmasters, and asking myself, "Does this bring me joy?"
Both Squiers have sold, and I'm entertaining offers on the American Professional ii Jazzmaster and American Vintage ii Jazzmaster.

Be careful of the Marie Condo method. First she gets you to get rid of all your Jazzmasters. Then when the emptiness sets in, she sells you a Jazzmaster scented candle.

I enjoyed this video a lot. I purchased my Squire 40th Anniversary JM, because of you and Mike Adams. You guys were a great assistance in helping me narrow down my choice. I found one at a great price and am very happy with it, so thank you. I'd love to own a Vintera II, but it's a little out of my price range. Of the ones you're keeping, the M7, the EC, and Vintera II are my favorites and those are the ones I'd keep as well.

Sadly had to sell all my guitars and kept my Squier CV JM, I cannot wait until I am able to scrape together enough to get a Vintera II. I would love to see how the blue looks in real light.

Damn!! I just sold my very loved, 86 Fender Strat. Bought for $150.00, sold for $600.00. All so I could get my Son a big assed Xmas present. I'm waiting for my Squire Tele and Strat. Together $600+ Should be here by next week. Bummer you had to drop your instruments. But, that's one of the big reasons we keep playing- There's a guitar around every corner! 🤜🤛🥰

I remember seeing the Elvis Costello Jazzmaster for the first time played by the singer/guitarist in a band called cinema staff. Took me years to realise what model it actually was. Always loved it do it. Forever jealous of right handed guitars because of that also haha

I have had mine for over a year now and really love it. It fixed all the problems the original JM's had and then some. Play it nearly every day and highly recommend it! The tremolo is amazingly smooth and has NONE of the problems of the original. I have had more comments on how beautiful the Dark Night finish than any of my other guitars finishes. Lastly, the neck is silky smooth.

Funny enough, I ordered a mod-shop Jazzmaster a bit after these Vintage II JMs came out, and mine also had a mismatched trem arm. Fender support mailed out the correct one free of charge, but it seems to have been a logistics thing for them.

Emily this is a very niche request but do you ever plan on making a drippy surf demo with the Vintera 2? You’ve convinced me to get one and it’s my everything! but I would love to hear it through some professional recording/filming compared to my very quiet bedroom level set up. I’m running it through a surfybear metal into a TRRI. Sounds phenomenal but can’t find any surf demos with such a classic guitar. Happy New year!!!!

Thats alot of nice jazzmasters you have there. I built a Jazzblaster from a HS blacktop a few years back that in some ways today I regret trading it. BUT at the same time I would have liked to have had it with the block inlay'ed bound neck. I also wonder why there are not to many 12" radius fret board jazzmasters out there. Wish I had the funds to help you with some of those jazzmaster parts n suck. Good luck :)

@31:24 I think the algo led me to your channel to hear that comment - that it's too nice a guitar to keep... I had a 1966 Jazzmaster for 25 years, brilliant studio and stage guitar, but had to let it go about 5 years ago bc it was wearing out / falling apart and I couldn't bear to start a refurbishment. So, sold it all-original. Cried, A bit, Bought a Trussart Steelmaster, which is awesome. Still looking for a replacement JM to go with it... musing on a silverburst. Or maybe... and there goes another weekend!

I never really gave Jazzmasters a really thorough test run. Perhaps the two I have played were just not the right ones. That 40th Anniversary edition sounds fantastic. I also just love the Elvis Costello one. And with a Bigsby, wow was I ever surprised at just how great that would be for ambient playing with a really good shimmerverb. You never fail to open new doors for me musically. I’m super drawn to that CV. It just sings to me.

I love my Am Pro II Tele Deluxe, and I'm saving for a strat from that series because they're so good. I'd get one of everything of them if I could. I have the 40th anniversary Squier Jazzmaster that I refinished and put snazzy Fralin pickups in, and I adore that thing. (The refin was a ton of work, and that also bonds it to you, right?) If anyone is thinking about buying yours... Do it, person! Those are nice instruments. The Vintera II series instruments that I've played at a local shop have all been really sweet, too. I don't think you can go wrong with those. Your raving about yours makes me want them even more. 😂

One nice thing with Jazzmasters is that you can fit almost any pickup in the cavities (& many will fit under the pickup covers,too)...

Jessica Dobson from Deep Sea Diver plays the Costello Jazzmaster. It sounds soo good. Im sure yours will sounds great when fixed.

Yo! I had myself more than 20 JM in my life... I had a 1996 MIJ as my first one... The tuning stability was a big issue on it. Few years later, I had an AVRI 2008. I like that one a lot but I had to sell it for paying my studies. After I went crazy and did buy and sell all these models: AVRI 65, CP, CIJ, Squier VM, JMascis, Elvis Costello signature, Custom shop heavy relic, classic 2015 MIM, AO 60's, Custom shop journeyman relic etc... And guess what, I used to get all rid of because I always thought that the next one would be the better one... I never had more than 2 at the same time. JM are my favorite guitars because I like all the " defaults" of it... Finally, I ended with a Vintage II 66 model sunburst just like your's and this is the one I will age with. It has everything I love, the radius, the pickup sound, the weight, the look, the black hardcase... I have the version with the correct headstock shape and frankly, that one is my homerun. Thx for your video, If I was more equiped at the time or more video geek, I would have share all of these JM I had over the years. Cheers from Montreal Canada.

I played the same Vintera II that you have and it was great. I understand why you kept it and are selling the Squier version. I think all the guitars you chose to part with makes sense, though I think you should keep the "Dark Knight" Jazzmaster. I only have one Jazzmaster currently. It's my CIJ J Mascis Jazzmaster in Purple Sparkle with Curtis Novak JM-V/JM-FAT pickups. I know I eventually want another Jazzmaster and would love the Vintera II because of my affinity for Aluminum JM pickguards. I definitely want to checkout the Vintera II Competition Mustangs. Definitely get that Costello Jazzmaster sorted out because they are amazing.

@@fuzzedOut I love it but they have really gone up in price since they were released back in the late 2000s. It has a tunamatic bridge with a 7.25" radius neck so you need a good setup but that goes without saying. The stock pickups are garbage so be prepared to buy some new ones.

I do like that Squier Paranormal-style JM with the Tele neck. I was bidding on on Warmoth JM build with a Tele Neck by one of my favorite guitarists Joff Oddie ( Wolf Alice ) a while back and it sold for much more than I was willing to pay. The hunt continues! Let us know when you sell off some of your pedals, I am sure you have quite the stash. Btw - the link to your store above just lands on the Reverb page : )

I own the same colour AM Pro 2 but in Lefty. It has lots of options and toys on it, but I’m not impressed when you have any little thing on it needing adjusting or fixing you have to take the Strings off. Gibson Flying V’s are the same.

The Vintera looks stunning. I wish Fender had a bass VI in that brown color. I'd buy it in a breath. Your Vintera J deserves yellowed pickup covers and knobs.

I'm not in the market for a Jazzmaster, but some of these are going to make someone very happy. I still love the dark knight finifh on the am pro II. It's like the people at fender specifically heard me complaining about my black guitars disappearing into your silhouette when you wear a black shirt.

Emily , does the Vintera II have a flat or angled neck pocket ? Also , what height is the bridge ? Looks pretty low . BTW ... I would definitely get rid of the American made stuff due to the lack of quality control and bastardization of its features . Looks like MIM is the way to go these days . Great Video ... Thanks

What does the phrase “get rid of guitar” mean? I don’t comprehend that phrase. I think you need to get more namely a Troy Van Leeuwen Signature Jazzmaster. The pickups are the best.

I have to get rid of some Guitars too and will gift them to some 6-9 class students here , not have one and want one, but before doing this getting them in shape and get some cheap gigbags so they can take them home.

Why don’t you cannibalise the best aspects of each and build 2 or 3 truely loveable partsmasters/frankenjazzes? And put together what’s left and unload those. I know those guitars are meaningful to you, but something you customize yourself will surely become equally meaningful as well. Just an idea.

I'd sell them all except the AVRI-II - yes even the Elvis Costello. Your "free" guitar sounds the best and you'll make great money by selling the american Pro ii and the elvis costello. Obviously you love modding guitars so why would you keep the squiers? No offense but squiers are never keepers. EDIT: but since you do shows, you definitely want one that you can abuse like the vintera-ii.
