In the state of Jalisco a test is required both written and driving according to our facilitator

Some states to require that. The written test can be taken in English or Spanish. The driving test isn't like the U.S. where someone get in the car with you checks your ability to drive in traffic. From what i've read the driving test here is just testing your ability to parallel park between two cones without knocking them over. -Marc

Interesting, I am a citizen so I will have to look at getting a permanent license. I always wanted to get a Mexican drivers license. It would allow me access cheaper insurance.

You should, some states do require a test but from what I understand the test is available in English and Spanish and the driving test consists of paralell parking a car between two cones without knocking them over. -Marc

@@pedrozatravel I agree, the driving is crazy here but Mexicans are masters at parallel parking 1/1000 of an inch from the curb in the tightest spaces.

That would be easier for sure. Where we came from the longest we could get is 5 years. How long does a drivers license last in Canada before you have to renew it? -Marc

Hi guys 😊good info . I have a question since you guys are permanent residence there but you hold a US passport and that expires do you have to go back to the states to renew or can you do it in Mexico for US passports. Not sure if this is a dumb question but it’s on my mind. Happy holidays. Do you guys decorate for Christmas? Is that a thing over there in 🇲🇽

Hi Claudia. You don't have to return to the U.S. to renew your passport. You can go to any U.S. consulate or Embassy in most countries and renew your passport. Yes people do decorate for Christmas and like the U.S. stores start selling Christmas in August. lol. -Marc

Thanks for this informative vlog Marc & Paulette. When you present copies of the documents needed i.e Residency Card, Current Driver's License... do you copy Front and Back of the documents Or just the Front? Thanks

Hi Tino, we just typically copy the front. The residency cards they want to look at not copies as well as the drivers license, Passport. Sometimes depending on what your doing they will want to see official documentation for your RFC number so we print that out. Basically any card that your issued that want to see the actual card. -Marc

Hi Marc and Paulette, I have a valid Illinois driver's license but unfortunately my Mexican driver's license expired on Dec. 4th this year. I'm I ok driving with my IL license ?

Yes you are ok driving with your IL drivers license as long as it's valid. -Marc

So, do you have an SD license too? We both have SD licenses, but my assumption is this won't matter once you become a permanent resident, because we would no longer have an SD-plated car. I'm guessing if you are driving a Mexican-plated car, you need a Mexican license, correct? Also assuming that if you had an SD license, you are letting that go, correct? Love porcupines! LMAO ~Gina

Hi Gina, we both still have our SD licenses. We might let our SD licenses expire but they can be renewed on line. We haven't decided yet. You do not need a drivers license from Mexico to drive a Mexico plated car. Thanks for watching to the end. -Marc
