I'm so glad you have a doctor who gets you and your EDS. 'I'm going to put heaps in." I have hEDS, stretchy skin, dislocations, dental problems. I always feared the dentist because I always felt pain even after numbing. My new dentist took the material I brought her about how quickly we metabolize local anesthetics. She gave me a stronger one and didn't leave the room to allow the numbness to develop. If she had waited, she'd have to numb me again because it would be gone from my system. When medical providers are willing to change their practices for your comfort, it's a big deal. Congrats on your implant. May it conquer the periods.

I see you and your life struggles. And I can't help to feel so much compassion for you! I wake up in the morning and think to myself that I have it bad. And then I think about you and how young you are and all the things that you have been through and all the other people out there that have real struggles in life and to be honest your story just brings me to tears! She has to be the most loveliest nurse/doctor!! I have an autoimmune disease & chronic pain illness so I've had my fair share & then some, doctors, nurses, etc. She's gotta be the sweetest one. When you find someone like that, you hold onto them!! Amazing that you shared this with us. I've had it done aswel but it's different coz you can't see it like this shows. I recently had my Implanon removed and despite some minor spotting towards the very end of my 3 years, I had no periods whatsoever! I sincerely hope this works out for you! Good luck and keep us updated 💕

Please keep us updated with how you go! Personally I had a terrible reaction to the Implanon with heavy and constant bleeding, intense mood swings and weight gain so I got it removed after 4 months. Don’t worry though, it affects everyone differently, some people don’t have any of those side effects at all. Best of luck and let us know how it goes ❤️

I doesn't have done that surge, but I have been taken my Uterus and ovaries away because of endometrioses. And that was really painful. But I'm lucky and live in sweden where the Healthcare and medication is almost for free. I have also been in an accident wich ended up in wheelchair and a year later I also get the diagnosis MS, so I'm really glad that the medicine and Healthcare it's for free. I just had my implant replaced and it worked perfectly for 3 years! It’s just amazing. I had mine done at the sexual health clinic and got only freeze spray on the area but it was over so quick. My periods have been regular and didn’t change at all! I hope it works for you! ❤️❤️

I've had mine for around four and a half years now, I'm on my second one now and I absolutely love it. I'm one of the very lucky people who've completely stopped getting their period on it, the only time I've had one was around the 3 year mark with my first implant, and it was a very light one with some light cramps. I've got a few friends who've had it not work for them, and make their periods worse, but I'm super fucking happy with mine. I have problems with iron retention, especially in the last few years with having surgeries on my jaw, so not having a period has definitely improved my life in that regard, and hopefully I don't need to worry about infusions anymore. Definitely keep an eye on it, they can be difficult the first couple of months but fingers crossed you're one of the lucky people like me who completely stop getting periods, or that they slow down dramatically.

I’ve had the implant for almost two years now, and it’s been a dream, honestly. Experienced some spotting the first few months, then after that no period or cramps whatsoever. Pretty sure I’ll be getting it again when the three years are up.

I have had mines for 3 years and I have to get it removed next month. It wasn’t bad at all . I will be getting it again.

I had the implanon back in 2013 and it worked really well in regards to stopping my periods but I gained A LOT OF WEIGHT. I had it removed a year later and started getting the Depo Provera injections and have been getting them every 10-12 weeks since. Everyone is different. Thanks for the videos Amy!

I'm on my second implanon now, what's interesting is feeling it throughout the 3 years and feeling it get smaller.(The bumps on the implant fade away, the implant gets skinnier) Definitely check your implant at least once a month to make sure you can still feel it. Try not to play with it when you first get it in, some women have accidentally pushed it back out of their skin. For me, it stops my periods for the first year of the new implant, then I skip every other month for a little while, before getting regular periods after. It all goes along with how small the implant gets. Your first one hurts the most, but the removal & reimplantation of the new implanon is far less painful. Here in America, we can get these implants done at our gynocologist's office, you just make an appointment and Bam, you've got the implant.

I’ve had the implant in and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done as I don’t really get my periods and when I do it’s really light and only for a few days so I really do hope it work for you

I currently have my second implanon in which is due to be removed next year so I've had them for 5 years now and it has worked for me, no periods in that time. No change in weight though which I would have liked but beggars can't be choosers can they. Good luck with it, it's so much easier than having to remember to take the pill every day :)

My 5 yr old is thought to have Ehlers Danlos and is in excruciating pain all of the time with her hips and back and has the super velvety soft skin ..... it is a terrible debilitating disease I wouldnt wish upon anyone. God bless you for making people aware of Ehlers Danlos, keep spreading the word and your experiences because it does help

The doc that did mine was super lovely and gentle too. I told her I would have an anxiety attack. Its not the needle or the pain. Just the lack of control over it all. I love mine. On my 2nd one now.

I have had this implant now twice. I really hope it works for you it has been a blessing for me as I can’t take any birth control that has estrogen due to a history of blood clots.

I had my first one when I was 18 and I just got it replaced again like two weeks ago, it's one of the best birth controls I've tried. I did gain weighr with it but meh. Ive done the pill, the shot and this and its been my favorite, a few days of pain for 3 years of not worrying

I have the implant and so far (it's been just over two months) it has been okay. It is weird at first because, personally, my cycle is all thrown off. However; I had spotting every day after my first cycle on the implant, and that cycle was much lighter than I have ever had before. I know that your body can take up to 6 months to fully adjust to the implant and I am just hoping that my body doesn't take that long to adjust. I really do hope it works for you; I watched your vlog about the heavy periods and it taught me a lot. Thank you for sharing your life with the world.

I had the nexplanon and I love it!! I’ve had it for a year now and I spotted for 7 days and no period after that. Although I’m still breastfeeding so I’m not sure if not having a period has to do with the implant or nursing. But yea, it’s my favorite contraceptive method that Ive tried by far. I was so nervous about the procedure but it wasn’t bad at all. The local anesthetic was the worst part. I didn’t feel the implant going in. No pain afterwards. Just felt like a bruise while healing.

I had Implanon, and it made things worse for me. My already extremely heavy periods (endometriosis over here) became non-stop horrendous periods. I ended up having to pay $500 to have it removed early. I hope it works for you!!

In the US I received the Nexplanon implant and I love it! I tried multiple different variations of the pill and had negative side effects but I’ve had the implant for two years with no problems. Best BC ever, and I only get about ~4 periods a year for 3 days or so!

I've had the implanon for 3 years now (replaced once) no problems apart from a few random cramps and spotting every few months but it has helped me lots.

I was told as someone who has heavy painful periods that implanon is the worst option. I got the hormonal iud and not only do I experience almost no period pain now but my periods only last about a day. It was awful for the first month but now it’s changed my life

In new zeland we have a place that does I for free for youth under 25. We get 2 rods ( with local) that last 5 years interesting how you get just 1. When I got it I had no period at all for a year but I’d get cramping when my period would be but no where near as bad! But unfortunately after the year I got irregular periods which was almost every week so it got taken out. But the jab worked for me better and I only get a small period every now and again. The reason it is that way is because my periods are SOOOO heavy too❤️. I hope it goes well for you. ( I have fibromyalgia and “mild EDS” , post and other things diagnosed and it took forever to heal!)

I had the inplant in for almost 2 years it took away all of my period. I got it out about 3 years ago, my periods aren't regular anymore. It is a good birth control, I feel, i just feel if it didnt change so much of my hormorns and periods i would recommend it. But no onss bodys are ever the same. I hope it helps you out more than it helped me, after getting it out.

[Edit: story order for clarity] I had this done last year, and it went as smoothly as yours as far as I can tell. Can completely agree that the local anesthetic was "worse" than the actual implant itself. For me, it was that they used too short of a needle for it, and that it slightly burned, but once the anesthetic took effect, I felt nothing other than the ladies touching the rest of my arm. I warned them beforehand that I'm ticklish in and around my armpits, so if I flinch, that's likely the culprit LOL! Perhaps it's because you had just finished a period, but for mine they had me take a pregnancy test the day of the procedure before they would start. I have PCOS, so my periods were irregular to begin with -- most often not at all or some spotting. For a long time I used a birth control skin patch, and it worked like a dream with reasonable reliability! However, my gp wanted me to change methods for reasons I didn't think to ask for; possibly that I had been on that type for multiple years is my guess. I read the pamphlet about the implant, and it seemed like a good option that I wouldn't have to think about for a couple of years. Mine was called Nexplanon, which I was told is just the next "type" or "generation" of the Implanon. Also had mine done in my gp's office because someone there was trained to do it, so comforting being in a familiar place to have it done!

I have the nexplanon and I love it! I’ve struggled with heavy periods due to PCOS and 4 months after my implant I haven’t bled in over a month, and even when I do bleed it’s super light and I had no unpleasant symptoms like headaches, cramps etc. I hope it works for you!

I suffer from Endometriosis and PCOS and I've decided to get the implant to see if that will help. Ur video is fantastic coz I now know what it will be like and I'm not freaked out anymore tbh. Please keep up with the vids, they r great!

Amy, I hope more then anything that this works for you. You go through so so much with your body and your chronic illnesses. You deserve a break. I have epilepsy, gastroperesis, diabetes, and heart issues. I'm in my 30's and have a pacemaker. U r a true example to me as positive and inspirational u r. I honestly feel so so alone. I've lost so many friends because they got upset I would have to cancel plans because it was a bad day, or I had had a bad grand mal seizure and just couldn't get with it when it was time to leave or get ready to leave. I've vomited on clothes on the way and turned around to go back home. So the only place I now go is to the doctors, hospital, or pharmacy. And I walk my dogs down the road (we live way out in the country in Kentucky so it's all horse farms where I'm at) I have a medical service dog, as well as a few other dogs and a kitty. Honestly there's been days I've not killed myself because of them. How do u stay so positive. I'm sure Tom helps a lot. He's amazing. I'm so happy for u that u have him. Woah Amy, I don’t know if that was normal how they did it- mine was genuinely about 10 times quicker than that!! The local anaesthetic didn’t really work for me, but mine was done in about 3 seconds so it didn’t matter too much anyway, I’m sorry that yours took so long 😧

I also got the implanon and it works really well for me. I‘ve had like zero pain when the doctor put it under my skin. This was a year ago or so and I still think that I did the right thing. So I‘m really happy with it. :)

As someone who also suffers from heavy periods I found that it worked for me. I first had it when I was 16 it lightened my period and the cramps, I had a few side affects but none of the serious ones. I've got it again had it for almost 3 months and it seems to be going the same as last time. But I hope it works for you! ♥️

I had mine for 2.5 years. The idea of it was fantastic and I wish I could get it again. The first 2 months i bled, very little, but everyday. Then for 1.5 years it worked perfectly. No bleeding. I noticed i gained 30 lbs and depression, but if its the rod or not i cannot tell you. My friend got the same symptoms and had hers removed before a year passed. I removed mine because the last 5 months i had it i bled constantly, and so much. Now im on the patches. Cant skip a period, sadly. It comes even if i try. 1 year without periods is not worth months of bleeding, depression and extreme weighgain. I hope yours work flawlessly and my case isnt happening to everyone ofc. I just wanted you to be aware of symptoms, think about them every couple of months. Wish I could get it again. I would if it wasn't for those sideeffects. I dont have EDS, but i do have issues with Anesthetics working for me, both local and general. I felt everything when i had my implant fitted

I had an Implanon for about a year, my doctor had to remove it because I had my period for 3 MONTHS straight and other problems like migraine and mood swings. Now I use the nuva ring, thank god there are no complications.

I actually got my implant done 2 days after this video (was already planned), on the 19th. I got the variant here in New Zealand called Jadelle. The Implanon lasts 3 years, but Jadelle lasts 5 years. So that was on the Monday. By the Saturday, I was bawling at KZfaq videos of kittens, so I figured the hormones had started working LOL! Now i'm fine :) Took a bit longer to heal than the first one I got, as I had rods removed, then inserted again, but I have found it the best thing ever. Totally stops my periods. Top notch. So I would recommend this to anyone :)

When I got mine it hurt so mad and I freaked out but I was surprised how it didn’t hurt even tho it was severely bruised

I did have it for maybe a few months but it started making me really ill and my GP flared up with it and once it was out it went back to normal.

There are loads of negative comments on here so I figured I’d add my positive experience, just in case someone is trying to make an educated decision. I have the nexplanon (the implanon is no longer used in my country) and I’ve had it for 2 years now and *touch wood* it’s been great! I spotted for about 6 months after insertion but 6 months to the day of having it all spotting stopped, I’ve not had a period since and it’s been great and the best decision I’ve made!

I’ve had mine in for a year now and I’m starting to get irregular bleeding which is annoying! But previously I’ve not had a period at all since I’ve got it in which is great considering I did have quite painful/ Heavy periods before. I hope this works well for you!

I've had the implant since May 2018, and I've had light bleeding pretty much every day since then. If I get a break from bleeding at all it will happen on a rare occasion for a few days but the last time it stopped was two months ago. When I first got it I think I remember having a few months with no bleeding at all and I thought it was great but then it changed to all the time... Having to wear a pantyliner every day used to bother me, but it's routine now and at least I never get any period cramps.

I have the implant as well! I appreciate you sharing your experience. Mine personally didn't hurt getting it placed (thanks local anesthetic) but when it was healing I bruised a lot and it hurt for a while until I healed! Hoping it helps you like it has me though! It worked really well for me I never had any problems with it and I’ve never had a period for 3 years.I just removed mine the nurses were very friendly and gentle with my arm I would definitely would get the implant again.

I had the implant, incursion was fine but I reacted badly to the synthetic hormones it releases & so was constantly actling like I was on my period all the time/terrible mood swings. So I chose to have it out after about 6 months of it being in. However, having it out was a bit of a palaver: it had imbedded itself in my muscle & when it was eventually cut loose it came out bent/wonky. My nurse did keep giving me extra local anaesthetic to try help numb the pain whilst she had to dig around & cut it loose but thanks to EDS I found it all just ended up being pretty painful & I had right shiner of a bruise afterwards! xxx

I also have the implanon in my arm. I have now had one put there for the 3rd time and it works great for me. I find removing it and putting it in your arm as annoying. I also always suffer from the bruises afterwards. But I think it is worth it because I am so satisfied with it. I myself am very bad at taking pills. I forget or I don't get them swallowed. with this data I chose this solution 6.5 years ago and would never want anything else again.

I have the implanon also because the is no other option for me. Mij gp give me also an local anesthetic but he make a little cut before he put the implanon in my arm. I'm happy that he did this looks painful

I had it around 9 years ago for about 5 month before i had to get it taken out.. it caused me to have migranes.. i hope it works out better for you x

I have the same birth control / rod. I’ve loved it had it for a 2 years. Only down fall was my weight gain! Sucks buttttt nothing to complain about it. Works great for me but yet again everyone is different and it truly won’t be worth it for some people’s but others will

I have the same one.... it took around three months to work. And I still had spotting... but after around 6 months I had no period at all

I've had a number of Implanons over the last 10years. Always have worked well. Stopped my periods. However on this last one I've had spotting off and on for months. I've had to take the Mini Pill as well to make sure my periods stop altogether. It has something to do with me putting on a heap of weight and the implant moving. So it is no longer in the same spot that it was originally placed. I cannot feel it, so I need to get it surgically removed. All the best. I hope that it works well for you. I have nexplanon, which is the same thing,for 3 years now. I need to get it replaced next month and the first two years were rough I started with periods that lasted months but were mostly light and spotting then I had some estrogen tablets i took with it, i had to do i three times before my periods evened out, and now my periods are back to how they were one week long with pretty bad cramps but at least I have days that my underwear is clear

I've had the implant for 2 years nearly now and it's not been the best for me but it has been a good contraception for me.. but my mood swings are a joke. I cry so so much!!x

I’m from the US and I got the arm implant too although it’s called Nexplanon. Im gonna be honest the local anesthetic shot hurt so bad; that was the only thing that hurt out of the process. Didn’t feel the implant at all when they put it in. I am now a year in with it, it’s nice to not worry about pills.

Ive had the implanon and it was a indeed quick insert. Even faster actually. I had no problems like nauciousch stuff or anything, but it just didnt work for me. Still had bleeding and spotting. So i called to take it out, which was a struggle if im honest. Now I have the injections and those work perfectly

I had the rod about 10yrs ago, Gosh, that makes me sound hella old. 😂 I found I got a badass bruise the following days. I think you can have it in for 3yrs, Max. Correct me if I'm wrong. (My doctors believe it may have been what triggered my condition but that's just me & everyone's different.) The whole time I had it, I didn't get any periods. 😅 I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I've heard of women getting spotting non stop, irregular periods or ladies who just bleed the whole time they have it. If you got yours to hopefully stop your periods, I really hope you're one of the lucky ones like I was, and don't get your period until it's removed. Not to scare you. Just fun fact. Lol One of my friends mum had it done. She was leaning on her elbow, doing something and it full on, popped out of her arm!!! 😮😆😐😂 Oh... And they do move. So don't be freaked out by that. Some people have to had scans done just to find out where the heck it's gone. I've heard of many horror stories of where they've found it.

I had my BARD power port placed with nothing but lidocaine, no fentanyl, propofol or versed. Pretty fascinating experience!

I love my implanon, I've been period free for over 5 years however i do know im one of the lucky ones. It did make my mental health a lot worse tho and i ended up with 'emotional periods' so then ended up on duloxetine to even that out. Hope its a positive experience for you xo

I had the implant called Implanon which is the one that looks that you got and I had a period straight- for 7 ENTIRE MONTHS!!! I did however - Have it taken out at month 4, BUT I CONTINUED TO BLEED FOR 3 MORE ROUGH, MONTHS! Infact, I had to have a numerous blood transfusions - every.single.month, Due to the volume of blood I was losing. I was soaking an overnight pad in less than 45 minutes

I'm going tomorrow and I'm super nervous! But im excited to not have to take a pill every single day at the same time

i found this so interesting to watch!!! I have the Jadelle implant which is two little 'rods' instead of just one. I faint if i watch needles going in to me haha so i didn't watch my Doc insert mine. I also bleed SOOOOO much, like after getting the anaesthetic i had a puddle of blood under my arm and continued to bleed even more after they put the rods in! Your insertion looked so nice compared to my blood bath hahhah
