Getting Arrested in Egypt

Giza Egypt, home of the Great Pyramids of Egypt and a very difficult local police force as you'll see in this video. It's a ridiculous and crazy story that shouldn't have happened and needs to be shared because I'm not the only one that I've met that has experienced this. I hope this educates , informs and brings to light the difficulties many tourists have with the authorities outside the pyramids and archeological site.
Question, was I really arrested? --- "Arrested" is defined as "seize (someone) by legal authority and take into custody", so to answer the most common question, yes I was arrested but not charged with anything.
Before the pandemic hit last year, I was able to travel to Egypt, Pre-Pandemic, no masks. This brand new video is part of that trip that I've kept in archive until the world was ready and more accessible to travel again.

@@wessamhesham7934 Yes you're right, but this is not a reason to mistreat people, specially locals. This gives a horrible image about us. They randomly arrest people and torture them. Using terrorism as a reason for conducting such behavior is never acceptable. The police officers in Egypt must learn how to deal with the public and the whole sector needs immediate and serious revamping.

To enjoy Egypt u need an Egyptian to deal with the people and tell u what to do and teach u about the scammers and how to avoide and take u to our wonderful places, i traveled to alot of places here in Egypt and know where to go to see amazing places, amazing beaches ,iamn't a tourist guide but i visit alot of places, anyone wants to visit Egypt i will be happy to help him and tell him what to do with messages, videocall, locations ,real prices or meet him it's okey for me i like to get know to new people and it's all for free ,i don't need anything thank god

I just came back from 2 weeks there. Had zero issues like this video. Only dealings with officials was to verify I was safe while traveling on deserted roads at security checkpoints.

I am Egyptian and want to thank you for your bravery and standing your ground, these people are the reason Egypt is in the situation it is in at the moment. They are tyrants running this country they ruined the tourism industry completely. I am so sorry you had to experience this in our country these cops are the worst in the world they profiles me many times and only left me alone when they found out I have an Australian passport. To be completely honest, the worst thing about Egypt is the abuse of authority by Egyptian police. Being said, the officer’s are actually a bit nicer. The ones we deal with are the equivalent to warrant officer’s. A lot of times they can barely read and write from the countryside and get assigned to the cities thinking they’re on top of the world. A lot of times they harass folks and if you TIP them they’ll leave you alone. I have to deal with that almost every time I go visit. Sorry for you experience there brother.

This happens to me EVERYTIME im filming alone somewhere deep in Cairo's urban slums...Either its police, or sometimes its underworld people doing petty crimes (for the most part) who dont like being filmed by unknown entities...BTW, i look western , blonde hair green eyes, but im a native and as soon as i speak Egyptian, I lose all my rights. One day, i just might lose my temper and give them the violation they need to officially arrest me. I hope this doesnt happen!

this is Egypt, but the question is why do big powers(Ameirca,european countries, Russia,China) support this regime with weapons.. people are dying and getting arrested for just expressing their opinion. You see Egypt is just a puppet state for bigger powers. Remember that Mubarek had hidden over 80 billion of Egyptian money in European banks, how much is the current government hiding? As an Egyptian I’m sorry that you had to go through this. BUT!!! I have been living in the US for 15 years, and I had similar situations like that in the US. Try asking a police officer to show his ID. And they always ask for ID even if I’m not driving. Try filming in a small remote town in Arkansas or Oklahoma and you’ll see what I mean.

Well, since I am Egyptian, I'd like to point out that what your Egyptian friends told you was right. Our policemen do the same thing with us all the time and this is why we avoid seeing them or even report some problems to them! Policemen are just thugs with authority and believe that they can do whatever they want BUT when they realize you have another nationality (American is the worst for them lol) or has power or high connections, they stop and apologize. They are both vicious AND cowards which is a funny combination. My brother and his family are American citizens and when they came for a visit 2 years ago, he used both his Egyptian ID and the American passport depending on the situation. I am very sorry for what you've encountered here and I really hope we Egyptians rise up soon to get rid of all that BS.

@@FransceneJK98 I’m in a travel group for Egypt on fb with thousands of people. The majority that I’ve seen have loved going. To say you’re not going anymore based on this video alone is very short sighted.

marhaba Rasha, we plan to visit egypt and Cairo my wife and me in mai 2022. do you think it's safe to walk in cairo alone without a guide ? i speak arabic as i'm from Syria and French. I always have camera to shoot photo but don't want problem. Thank you for your time :)

It’s just so sad the fact that this is really what’s happening all the time to Egyptian people in their country by the corrupted police officers and government but once they know you’re carrying a strong passport the attitude totally switch, im from Saudi Arabia lives in the US and we all know how nice and kind the Egyptians are. Egyptian police isn't corrupt by arresting people, it's by being easily bribed into not arresting people

@Captain Harlock I don't engage in Whataboutism, if something is bad, then it is bad. Because there are others who are as bad as you are or worse doesn't justify your actions. American police have systemic racism in them and are brutal, but Egyptian police are far worse in terms of corruption and brutality.
