WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales.
We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.
Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.
We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.
Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

Feels good to have almost all of the big projects tackled. We have mentioned it before but I know you’re wondering about the FRIDGE/FREEZER. The units that are best are not available in New Zealand and need to be imported. So we have decided to not let that project hold us up from exploring for now. We’ll tackle it later as we have the portables that work. As for Nikki’s surgery. We’ll fill you in on that more as the time comes but she has been suffering in silence for most of her life. Stubborn as. She has a partially deviated septum and will have FESS which is an endoscopic sinus surgery. But for now, we sail.

With plastic hoses, dip the ends in boiling water to soften them. Then they go on barbed fittings much more easily.

Hey Nikki!! I went through sinus surgery back in 2016 I think it was and while I can say recovery was brutal and it took me about 6 months to really feel the full scope of what that amazing surgery did for me. As a sufferer of multiple yearly sinus infections and many rounds of antibiotics..enough was enough and I still to this day do not regret going through all that. Good luck and praying for a speedy recovery 🙏 ❤

Pre-heat those hose ends and they'll be much easier to slip over the fittings. Stick the end of the hose into a bowl of very hot water, let it soak to get soft & pliable, slip it over a ribbed pipe fitting and apply the hose clamp. Life will be MUCH better! If there's not enough slack to get the hose into a bowl of hot water, you can carefully (!) use a heat gun. Even a hair drier will help get the plastic hose softer and easier to slide over the fitting.

Pro-tip…. Dehumidification of a boat takes 3 days of the unit being on before the space has all the moisture sucked out. Dehumidification is also 1/3rd of the energy usage of an air conditioner. So if you keep the space dehumidified then it takes less power to use the air conditioner when you want it. Always use the dehumidifier when plugged in or when you have extra power.

Definitely add the extra caulk. Most lift in an airplane wing comes wind passing over the top of it, much like your solar panels would be experiencing. Every gusty storm will try the adhesive just a little and certainly adds up over time.

Our venerable old lady, a 1975 Chris Craft 35 dc did not come with factory air. When we bought it in 2004 it had a home window unit cut into the back wall exiting and spewing condensate all over the bridge, ugly!. We were able to get a used 1992 16000 btu unit from a neighbor who was replacing it. The install went pretty well, all custom because it was new to us. Been a lifesaver ever since. Being in Wisconsin heat is an important factor and boats get so hot when closed up during the summer weeks, A/C is essential. Our friend just replaced his original salon unit, (1982) with the same one you installed. It works really well. You'll be happy.🌬❄❄❄ Love everything you do! Keep up the great work.

The joy you bring thousands of us, traveling by RV and now by boat is an amazing gift. It is so easy to overlook just the work needed to set up the magic of your videos shots, and then the editing and publishing. For all of that, all we need do is nod and support. You'd think as a desert country, Morocco would have lots of oil, right? *WRONG!* Not of the fossil fuel kind but of the Argan kind. So Morocco has been heavily reliant on both wind and solar energy. Especially solar since they're a desert. One of the highest solar insolation rates anywhere, and has one of the largest solar farms too. They are a role model for the rest of Africa to follow. I know all of this because I represented the country in a UNEP committee for Model UN a few years ago

I was a truck driver in the oilfield for 43 years. We had webasco heaters on our engines. They were hot water heaters to warm up the engines before starting. They burned about a pint of fuel an hour. They would bring a -20° engine up to 150° in twenty minutes. That way it was a warm engine start, which was a lot easier on the engines. That was in 2007, old technology. If your unit is as good as the old stuff, you will enjoy it.

I also recently lost 3 of 6 flexible panels during a Typhoon in the Philippines. They were glued down AND put screws in on the 4 corners. Unfortunately, the sikaflex caulking really didn't stick well because of poor preparation in my side. The proper way is to sand the back of the panel where you plan to lay the caulking so that it is not shiny, but dull. Then wipe clean with acetone, both back of panel and the bimini surface. I replaced all 6 of my panels with bigger, 3rd generation Sunpower using Maxeon cell technology. But this time I used 3M double sided tape and used the same type of preparation. Super pleased with final outcome.

Eons ago, back when medical facilities still used paper charts, a friend of ours had to have sinus surgery. Chuck had horrid allergies and crap had built up inside his sinuses. They removed it in a quick day surgery. He was in the recovery room, his nostrils packed with gauze. His husband, Mike, was leaning against the wall near the door. A nurse came in to check on him and she had the chart folder in her hand. She lifted it up to read it and said "oops. wrong chart, be right back". Meanwhile Mike is about to choke laughing. Apparently, there was a big sticker on the folder that read "Watch for vaginal bleeding". It's been many years and we all still tease Chuck about it. His recovery wasn't bad, but he hated the black eyes and the gauze up his nose. He wouldn't let anyone come visit him at the house for over a week.

Be sure and do all the sinus rinses as they will help you tremendously. It is definitely worth it to have the surgery. I do not regret it even though I had about every complication one could have following my surgery, i.e., blood clot, staph resulting in a major allergic reaction to a sulfa drug that I was given resulting in Stevens-Johnson syndrome. It was a beast but I am so much better!!

I know this won't help you at this time, but for the solar panels you should pit a spacer material under them to allow air flow to cool them off a bit. The cooler panels will produce more electricity. I've seen this on other channels. Maybe it will help someone else down the road. Nikki, good luck with your sinus surgery. I had bi-orbital decompression surgery for protruding eyes from hyperthyroidism. The surgery was brutal, and included some sinus work, but it was worth it in the long run. I looked worse than Rocky Balboa after a fight for a while, but I am pleased with the outcome.

Pro tip: Get a heat gun. Hard hoses (of any sort) soften up wonderfully under a few seconds of heat from a heat gun... not only will they slide over the barbs better, the hose will conform to the barb's shape and give you a better watertight seal.

Another great job guys! Good luck with the surgery. I know it's not for a month, but with my memory, I'd forget. .. Cheers from TO!

Jason, you mentioned that boat projects aren’t complete till they’ve been done 2-3 times… and I’ll add, and a little blood has been spilled! I don’t remember a boat project when a band aid wasn’t involved at the end. We’ll done to you both on the projects and upgrades to Curiosity! 👏👍💪

You should put corrugated plastic it's like cardboard between the panel and the deck or the hard top to allow air flow under the flexible panel to keep it cool Better performance and longer lasting

500k subscribers and I think the all wrote a comment . Congratulations. What was the wetting agent you sprayed on the perimeter caulk? Water? Did you consider a 12v AC unit like the Mabru to avoid loss from inverting 12v house batteries to the 120v Webasto? All these details are appreciated by an audience that is entertained by caulking videos. Your videos are the best on KZfaq. Delos and LaVagabond can learn something by studying your production technique and execution. 1 million by Christmas!

It's satisfying to see the projects get finished. Tip on that stiff hose to the A/C unit...a hair dryer to the hose will soften the material and widen the inner-diameter of the hose.

You should have an air layer behind the solar panels to help with cooling which makes them more efficient.

Nikki, I’m a surgical technician and I work in ENT surgery. It won’t be that bad. It will be one day of completely stuffed up. Then a week of stuffiness and then…it will be amazing!!! Our ENT surgeon says that it is the surgery that patients have THE MOST satisfaction with!! Good luck!!!

I am really impressed at how far y'all have come with your abilities to make repairs and installs. I have been around long enough to remember the first installation of the composting toilet in the RV and Jason trying to figure out how to plug a tire in Alaska 😁

Hurray for Micro Air!!! We just happened to install a Rooftop RV version to go with our solar setup which we are currently using in the desert. Since we are on generator hours it’s been a godsend. Happy travels.
