I had my Volvo C70 2.0 5-cylinder diesel tuned from the stock 177 bhp, to 215 bhp made a big difference, especially the mid-range performance, economy wise, before the remap it was doing 41 mpg on average, now it's down to 38 mpg average, so, a little more thirsty but well worth the penalty, the astonishing thing was, the car had done 101k miles when I had it tuned, when Celtic tuning put it on the roller it came out at 181 bhp before the remap, so I said how come it's higher than stock ? They said Volvo engines often do this, they produce more power than quoted as standard, despite having 100k on the clock it was still producing more power than the quoted figure for a brand new car! I stood back in amazement to be honest 😂

The chap doing the tunning knows what he is doing. The fact that he brought the car on a test drive before and logged all of the paramaters is vsry impressive. I would have noted his comment that injector 1 was down and got it replaced or refurbished first. Come back again for the final remap.

Recently installed a tuning box on my Mercedes C 220cdi. I can feel the added power (especially in the midrange) and my daily trip MPG went from around 38 to around 44 when I'm driving sensibly. So not a massive saving, but it all adds up and the box eventually paid for itself.

Been mapping my cars for 30years….its the first thing I do the minute I buy the car….never brand new tho…..the difference is night and day in pick up……Audis BMWs and last one a Jag XF……can’t recommend a map …enough….tell your friends…

For doing what is natural for an engine and not what some idiot in Brussels / Westminster thinks. 👍 If they really gave a - about the environment, we would be using cleaner fuels and tuning the engines not bolting garbage onto engines to make them inefficient and more susceptible to failure.

I have a 320d m47, egr delete and cooler, swell flaps delete and upgrade filter swell flaps and mines made 220bhp im taking it stage 2 with bigger injectors and fuel components and see where it goes. Great video agin my friend!!

Presumably this was a "stage 1" remap - above that perhaps not being wise without clutch/brake mods. Your injector issue reinforces the point that most tuning firms say i.e. the car needs to be in good condition before doing this sort of thing.

Great stuff mate, I've got a generic map from a tuning Company in Wolverhampton for my 118d , in all honesty I've definitely got used to it after 4 years but the power kfc put out I'm shocked, might be worth contacting darkside for them to work their magic, what price you looking at to get what you done today mate?

remember its not all just about gains , your putting more pressure on everything else so expect more bills ... had my car mapped and it instantly had fly wheel judders just as turbo kicks in ... (the clutch and flywheel were changed 20k ago you just never know if your car is perfect or not

Again, the car is only mapped to safe levels. The tuners always make sure the car is happy and clutch isn’t slipping etc. The clutch on this 318d is the same as the 320d so it’s good for 250-300bhp

maps a motor, doesnt upgrade clutch kit or things that drive the car, and expects a 20k stock clutch to handle upped BHP and TORQUE 🤷🤦

@@lu34lyf a stock clutch should be able to handle a stage 1 fine just reduced life span , a 20k clutch should be fine its just a dodgey flywheel shi* happens , my point was you should expect more bills with a remap ...

Nope, a good tune will get the best efficiency and performance from your engine. Everything from the factory is simply a baseline. A bad tune however....

There are many reasons to buy the 318d.. Cheaper to buy, cheaper on fuel, cheaper to tax, probably cheaper to insure and no swirl flaps.. But yes if you want more power then go for 320 or even 335d and get that tuned🙌🏻

It ups the cetane level of diesel, meaning it ignites easier. It’s what the super diesels have added to them in their additive package

@@charliecoco2115If/when something happens, and they find out that the car is illegal they pay not a nickel nor a dime. Insurance companies don't like illegal vehicles. Twenty years ago the UK belonged to the EU and at that time cars got a "whole car" "permission", and according to that "homologation" you aren't allowed to make the slightest change to anything that affects the emissions. So it's quite clear what's legal and not. No discussion is needed... 🥺

Probably not best to tune the vehicle especially if you take it to BMW as they can see if it’s been tuned or not and will most likely void any warranties you have left on it. Was asked if it was modified when I took my diesel in for EGR replacement in Feb.

He surely doesn't have any warranties left on it. You're right about the EGR replacement action, but BMW has to replace the EGR if the car is affected, this isn't a warranty thing. But even if he takes it to BMW and the software has corrected/original CVNs BMW isn't gonna notice it.. but a update of the DME would overwrite the tune. He specifically needs to tell them that he doesn't want his car to get updated. Or darkside flashes the tune back in after the BMW update.

Yeah definitely don’t have a BMW warranty on a 14 year old 190k miler.. I wish I did but I don’t 😅 Recalls have to be done regardless of the state of your car but yes always specify that you don’t want any engine ECU updates👍🏻

I wouldn't really recommend tuning a BMW diesel. The components are already at their limit. If the engine produces more soot and ashes, then you may be forced to buy a new DPF... I have a 2011 30d X3, 258 hp and 560 Nm of torque. And it seem that the ZF 8hp70 automatic gearbox doesn't last very well... So already with a standard engine you have to be careful on the throttle to make vital components last. Then the crankshaft in this engine is too weak too... In the 35d engine they use a stronger crankshaft! Then you need almost an engine oil that is made for racing engines, and the problem with these oils are that they are single grade 40/50/60. But there should be an American oil that could be useable. I don't remember the name of the company but they make oils for racing primarily. Normal olis don't stand the higher pressure on the bearings, unfortunately. If you want to be fast at the traffic lights, buy a simple EV! Or buy a secondhand race car to drive on tracks with! I think that is the cheapest way of having fun at the end!

It really depends on the specific car and can't be generalized on all BMW diesel engines. And no, EVs or "secondhand race cars" (lol what? :D) are not the cheapest way of having fun. Sorry for being rude, but stop spreading false informations just because your specific car had/has problems. IF it is true that remapping diesel engines is actually bad and so on, how does darksides business survive?

@@daviddorado5632 yup thats true, but the peripherals are a little bit different between 18d and 20d injection wise. If I remember right the injectors are different..? But the engine bottom end itself is exactly the same so no worries. You‘re right 💪🏻

Denmark is one of the worst countries when it comes to cars. We pay a lot to own them. We almost can't modify anything. I think we pay the most for fuel in the entire EU and from 2022 to 2023 there was an average of about 158 cars getting impounded every month or about 5 every day. I really wish Denmark would take it a little more easy on cars but sadly Denmark cares way more about looking good from the outside than for peoples passion.
