Getting Started With Polymer Clay: UV Resin

Күн бұрынIn this tutorial I'll explain how to use UV resin on polymer clay. I use a few different types. They aren't the only UV resins you can use, but these are the the ones I recommend. If you use different ones, let me know in comments. I look forward to seeing what you use.

Fyi: use toothpicks, one to hold pieces still and one to spread uv resin. Quickly Run a lighter across the uv resin before curing pieces with a lighter to remove air bubbles. I like to use the flex curved lighters. This is not a criticism, just information. Thanks for sharing your talent, Janine

I use rubbing alcohol to clean resin drips and brushes. It works really well on both UV and regular resins. Just to share a hint!

Thank you for another wonderful video!!!😊 with both bottles of resins you have to use the UV lamp for them to set? Or just for them to set quickly?

I use a UV lamp with both of them. Sunlight also works, but I find the lamp works quicker.

What UV resin would you recommend for something cylindrical like a pen?

I have never worked with pens and would not know. I'd look up videos specific to this and see what they use.

For the brushable one, do you know if it yellows over time? Like, do you perhaps have something from a year ago that has it on, to be able to compare to something more recently made?

If it's cured properly then no it doesn't yellow. I have pieces that are well over 2 years old now and their perfectly clear still.

How would I tell the difference between the 2 resins if I tried to look for them? I've been mostly on Amazon, and most of them don't say anything in the descriptions about being brush-on, doming vs non-doming, etc.

Most, if not all of the no name (Chinese brands) are brush on if they're Uv resins. Magic gloss is the only Uv resin I'd recommend for doming as I haven't found any other Uv resins that'll dome.

@@JessamaTutorials, thank you. Lol, I think my Amazon algorithms don't want to show me any of the Chinese brands. I'm still having a hard time finding them, they all have brand names. I'll keep looking, though. The reason I want to find one is that the resin I'm using does dome, but it's really hard to use on the sides of my pieces. It pulls away really bad on the sides so they often look awful, and it's hard to fix. After your video, I want to try the brush-on to see if that will fix my problems in the future.

Hi Samantha, thank you for all your tutorials. I was wondering if you had any information on the lamp you use to cure resin? I'm in the UK and I am struggling to find a lamp that doesn't seem to be for nails, or is that the type of lamp you use? Any information you could give would be massively appreciated. Thank you!

Hey Lynne! I know you asked Samantha... I use a nail lamp for curing my UV Resin. I purchased one with most LED lights (mine has 57 LED lights) for a $15 - $20 price point. I love it! Hope that helps.

I’ve been using a nail uv lamp for years love it. Tiny Pandora has a acrylic slide that works great too pull in and out of the uv nail lamps.

How long do you leave your pieces in pieces in the UV lamp?

I like to leave them for 10 minutes to get a completely hard cure.

Hello, I use the same resin but it curves my pieces a lot 🙁. How do you prevent this?

Are you referring to it leaving a dome or it spilling over the edges?

@@JessamaTutorials it retracts my pieces and the result is that it forms a kind of "U"

Ah. I see what you mean. How thick are your pieces? If they're a 1cm or less, the resin will end up curling it up.
