For the fences you need to line the entire top of the fence with a diagonal shield about a foot to two feet long. Cats won’t jump over it. It would have to go over your neighbors yard. the difference between whether cats are okay or need to be removed is whether or not they're being kept indoors, away from the damn wildlife. all cats should be kept indoors. there should be no outdoor cats. I will not take any questions on this nor brook any argument. Anyway, the best tip I have would be perhaps using some kind of scent-based deterrent that's a bit less friendly than dog piss? but that could also hurt things like lizards. I've been using korean pepper flakes bought really cheaply from the asian grocery to keep possums out of the strawberries and cats away from my birdfeeder. but that could be harmful to insects/reptiles, so i don't know if that'd do what you want it to. EDIT: yeah youll need a stronger cage. damn. but if it's traumatic being caught in the little cage, maybe they'll finally steer clear of your yard. really, feral cat problems won't end until people **stop letting their cats outside.** but you could also trap the cats, have them spayed/neutered, and then let them go again. That way they occupy the territories so new cats don't move in, they stay out of your yard, AND they don't reproduce.

I have an *indoor* cat as a pet. She keeps my mom's anxiety-ridden dog company when we're not home. They curl up next to each other and it's very cute. Anyways the reason I didn't get another dog is dogs tend to be very #clingy. I'm happy to leave my cat alone in front of the window where she watches birds but can not kill birds. I don't understand why people have indoor/outdoor cats personally - anything that goes outside brings in ticks, and there's a lot of cat owners who don't give their cats medicine so they get worms and fleas and crap. I live in a rural area so we got coyotes and fast trucks, but it's a problem in the suburbs with intact cats and no predators. Not as big a problem as in Australia or Hawaii though.

In case anyone was freaking out about the cats not loving you thing, It's not true as a blanket fact. Just like a human would do they only bond with those they actually like. I saw someone put it quite well "..Cats see you as a friend not an owner". Sometimes they won't even see you as a friend if they just don't like you as a person and then yes you will be considered just a provider of free food and a home. It's why I personally love cats. They don't feel obligated to like or love you just because you give them the basics to survive, but because you actually form a friendship with them to earn that love and trust.

For all the „animal lovers“ Cats actually are not native to Australia, and people letting their cats stray around and kill the local wildlife is a huge problem. There are many birds not specialized to counter cats. They dint know what to do. They nest low, which is like ideal for cats. So best thing you can do is actually catch them and get them somewhere where they dint interfere with wildlife. Growing up, we had a neighborhood tomcat pissing on our front door. A motion sensor activated an electronic valve connected to a pressurized quarter circle impact sprinkler head with rapid return. I would like to comment on the statement that said cats dont feel emotional attachment. Research has come out in the last few years that dismiss that original studys research findings. They found that cats actually experience a lot of emotional attachment towards their owners and it can be a bit comparable to an infant at times. They do love their owners genuinely but due to some survival instincts they may not as explicitly display their emotional attachment towards their owners

You could set up sensors around your yard/in the entry points that when set off plays a sound that only cats can hear and is super annoying, kind of like a dog whistle
