As a professional photographer I'd feel completely disappointed in myself and wouldn't be able to live with myself for not coming through for the ppl that entrusted me with such an important task as a wedding . That can't be redone. It takes more than the ability to take a nice picture. It takes ethics to be a pro photographer.

As soon as he said his drive was corrupted I knew this case was over. As a videographer I backup my files to multiple devices for situations like this. I feel bad for the defendant because losing files on a lost hard drive/ computer is heartbreaking and trying to recover it can be very expensive, especially if the recovery is not successful. This was definitely a learning experience for him as a photographer moving forward. I also feel bad for the plaintiffs because it was their wedding photos. I bet that they would rather have their photos over the money.

This case just makes me want to cry! I'm so happy that the judge was disturbed by the defendant's shenanigans and gave the plaintiffs everything they asked for. It's too bad he doesn't really have to pay them since the show does that.

There’s an old saying that applies perfectly to a situation like this: “You get what you pay for”! Why on earth would you trust such an important day to a cut-rate photographer? I would have thoroughly checked him, his past work & even references or reviews about his work. But I guess since he was just someone who “dabbles” in photography, he probably wouldn’t have had too much of that. That should have been a huge red flag to anyone. I hope he’s able to retrieve something for her and I’ll bet she’s learned her lesson hopefully!

I know people who went to school for photography and they have a main career but they make sure to keep the photos they take on separate hard drives and save them to multiple sources and they even use a separate computer for their photos and editing.

Use a thumbdrive to backup photos, especially if you have been paid for those photos. I take pictures and videos of my puppy being goofy with mobile phone camera, those are moments that can most likely never be replicated. Not the same thing as a wedding, but to me just as important.

Sometimes the best part is the chat in the hallway afterwards, "Are you embarrassed, you should be." LOL
