I learned the hard way. I think the guys that I got it from didn't care. These old machines are super tough. Those replacement bearings were easy to get from Napa. You can see the fluid level bolt on the casing.

I bought A older linkbelt ls4800PL with A 671 Detroit from A guy who hasnt started the machine in 8+years i put new batteries an fresh fluids in it she came right to life I was amazed!

I know what you mean, these old machines were made to last and they can sit for a long time. Got a future vid of a combine engine swap that's been sitting so keep an eye out for that one.

A few of my neighbors and I just a 1984 CAT 215B - LC, to be delivered this week ! Thanks for your videos, feel like we have a leg up on maintaining this thing. May I ask where you buy parts for this machine. Thank you...

I have the best luck getting them from Cat but I was able to cross those pump bearing over to an axle bearing through Napa. I have been surprised at how they still have parts for such an old machine. The best way to find everything is through the Cat parts website and through the SIS system. You can add the serial and get access to all the parts breakdowns and part numbers. Well, after grubbing in it for 9 months, I parked it and she's resting for now. I have a few more jobs waiting for her and some tlc to do but they just don't make things that last anymore like this old cat.

At 2:11 you said you put gear oil into the pump drive gearbox, but Cat's manual says it needs SAE 30 in there. Nice machine BTW. Got one too, just a bit rougher.

You Are correct. I was using a light gear oil that happens to be 30 weight not to be confused with 80-90w, that stuff would have been terrible to use. Sorry for any confusion.
