now, why did he remove it? what happens if it tips while he is next to it? wild that small of a piece weighs so much, what element is it if so dense, not just steel i am sure? anyone? thanks

@@drdwgmd14 he took it off to trailer it to another site, the lighter you are, the easier (and cheaper) it is to permit. And it could be lead, but likely it is steel, just hard to see a good scale to reference to.

Won't tip without the counterweight... Unless you reach the boom out all the way. If you do so the tip is very controllable and fun. Ask me how I know. Same is true with forklifts. I've driven forklifts without counterweights that were ready for the local roundy round track with all that weight removed. Thing is traction becomes a huge problem and stopping can cause a 2 foot high endo.. just sayin'. Playing with big equipment can be fun!

@@jd5997 counterweights are made of this weird mixture of scrap steel and a form of concrete. You run into bits of steel almost everytime you sand down a counterweight for paint.

He's a moron. There is a procedure to remove that counterweight safely and this isn't it. Several people have been killed removing them that way.

@@goose54x I haven't seen the manual, but that part made me cringe! The only thing holding it up is the cylinder and a broken hose or seal and it's 17,600lbs of smash hammer. Then again, look how many people use excavators as a crane, and walk under the elevated bucket to connect and disconnect loads.

I always enjoy these vids. Your no-nonsense approach to making videos is the best. I just watched a guy use a machette on some grass around his cat equipment to show how he was in the middle of nowhere, and theres just so much stupid stuff out there, its nice to have a no BS guy. Whistlin diesel cant get out of bed without causing some kind of toxic twitter nightmare, and HeavyD Sparks acts super dramatic, almost as if he can't wait to get home after work and get a manicure with the boys

Interesting. Our Volvo counterweight is similar but there is no chain or blocks to turn . She looks real clean for an older machine 👍

We used to haul that size machine a lot on 8 axles regular deck with a stinger without stripping them down here in Florida. We didn't strip them till 650s or bigger then we used the beam with 11 axles.

i've hauled 345s on 6 axles that's all we're required in maine for 100,000 (plus we get a 10% grace weight)

It's insane to me that one bolt for the chain is all that was holding 17k pounds after you turn those blocks. I mean its still a beefy bolt but just one!

I operated equipment for 37 years, and I tried to keep the machine I was operating as clean as possible. It’s more comfortable and productive to me in a clean environment. Never took long to sweep it out and wipe down dash and gauges. (Plus the contractor appreciated it when someone took care of there equipment.

Damn that Milwaukee has got some ass on it. Might need to get one for myself. The shot from under the counterweight made me a little nervous, it's crazy that it's manufactured that way, you'd think they'd have made it where you could do it without being under. Those tires are $10k-$14k a piece, I can only imagine the deal you got.

I’m an environmental technician, I specialize in installing liner and textile materials in landfills that are being dug up and buried, they get us to lay down the material in a pond type of deal, but instead it’s just slopes and berm’s in large amounts of sq metres surrounding the area that’s contaminated with leachate and such other gases, the material will trap it and then the landfill/city will collect it through boot pipes and then sell the methane off for money! Pretty neat stuff
