yep, I see that all the time, 5 yards off the green grab the 60 and pray. Finally I'm getting the sense to go with the 9 or 8 iron but its a hard habit to break. Trouble now is thick, sticky rough around the greens, that stuff really creates problems. Maybe you can get some tips on hitting out of that situation, thanks Matt!

Fantastic video. That is exactly me. I use (or misuse) my lob wedge for everything, I love the club and the feel of it.... but the margins are small and the misses are expensive. Time to practice more with different lofts.

I've already been doing this after watching the short game vids with Gareth this past winter. I've been using 52* instead of 60* with much better consistency. His video on dialing in partial wedge distances has been a lifesaver - it takes all the guesswork out of it with 3 distances per wedge. More videos with Gareth! Great stuff.

My weakness is the 15-30 yards to the hole and I too, tend to reach for my lob wedge instead of a gap or PW. I'm concerned about hitting it way beyond the hole instead of land and release to the hole. Looking forward to practising and improving this weakness. And, focusing on sinking more chips, or at least, create more short birdie putts. Thanks, Gareth & Matt. Great session.🇦🇺👍

Excellent video. It's surprising how many pro's still go with too much club though and get it all wrong. Faldo called it last week at the travellers at the driveable par 4. Nearly all the players went with Lob wedge and didn't make it up the hill, and he said several times how it was just a straight forward bump and run with a 9 or PW.

What’s so great about this video is that Gareth explains WHY you should use lower lofted bump and run technique; the fact you can more accurately and reliably hit a landing spot closer to you. I don’t know if he has any qualifications in terms of pedagogics, but giving students knowledge vastly increases their enthusiasm and confidence

I always go for lower lofted clubs on these shots and just bounce it up there I even started using my hybrid as a chipper and just grip down and out a putting stroke on it, works really well if you have a lot of green to work with

yeah this is where WE all need to improve, look at the shot in hand and choose the correct club for the best outcome, which seldom is the 60/58 degree club.

I grew up playing on raised “turtle back” greens so I learned to chip with lofted wedges in order to get it up to the surface. If you had a 10 yard chip you had a 3-5 foot rise to get over. When playing courses with traditional greens I find it hard to make myself take a PW and run it even though I know that’s the more reliable shot!

Great advise for probably 95% of golfers! I’ve been chipping with my 50* for the last 10 years and it’s become one of the best parts of my game. I just done understand the fascination of using a 60* unless you have to go over something.

Unless I need to get over a bunker or something, I use my 54 around the green. I'm pretty happy with my short game, it looks very much like this.. Last round my short game and long game were on point, shot a 74.

So many people need to see this. ‘I like that a lot’ as soon as he hits the 8 iron. The execution becomes easier but the conception of the shot requires a little more thought. I.e. club to use, slope, wind, landing spot, break. But for me hugely more preferable than going to 60 every time.

KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid goes a hell of a long way in this game at times. I am so guilty of trying to flight it with my 58 as it feels like the "sexier" shot when a little bump and run is way way easier and even if you muck it up half the time you are still close.

There’s no excuse for not being able to pitch well, if you don’t practice enough, you won’t get any better,or, only very slowly and get into lazy bad, lose confidence habits, instead of doing this straight forward pitch, pitch out of rough, over a Bunker, and, with clubs that are around today, your guaranteed to improve, but, only if you double your practice regime.
