Hey George, always love your video, great work as always, thumbs up~ However, about your comment about Chinese Product, I thinks it is a little unfair. Because price is always related to quality. You cant really compare something cost 5$ to another cost 50$...For the Chinese manufacturer nowadays, if you are willing to pay, you can definitely find somthing with same quality as the products of German but still cost less...Just saying:)

Germany has had a long history of building high quality products in many different industries...can't say the same about China historically, I do appreciate some products from China that really give its counter part in EU or NA a run for its money
@yuzhifan9010

Actually, Germany product used to have a bad reputation of the copy cat of british product, "the "made in" label originated in 1887 when Britain passed a law in order to stigmatize foreign companies(especially German) that had been manufacturing low-priced copy cat british products." you can google it. Dont mention American product and Japanese product, they both has a period of copy cat history, its just a historical phase, you need time to accumulate skills and capital. I m not denying that some products in China has a relative bad quantity, you got what you pay for. We do not has a reputation for good quantity YET. But, check Huawei Mate X or all that bridges, time marches on:)

Enter the notifications squad (though obviously I'm a bit late)! The lack of plants is quite petrifying since I'm so used to to seeing them in your scapes! I mean it takes some stones to rely on rocks only but the design is very solid. Rock on buddy!

I love hooded tanks , I can't stand staring in the light of the rimless watching my aquarium. I buy high tanks and incorporate the filter overhead in the front , 3 chambers (2 for filtering , 1 for heater and thermometer) , the length of the tank , foam only , I design the LED lighting behind it. It is the easiest maintenance , grab a bucket and pull out 1 of the chambers , the second maintains the bacterial filtration , switch it up the next cleaning. Cheap and highly effective , the perfect set-up for the beginner or advanced aquarist. I have 3 out of my 9 aquaria running this way and they beat all other 6 "of the shelf" rip-offs by a long shot. All that is in my tank is a powerhead with pre-filter (cleaned once every 2 weeks , this varies , watch the output of the pump to the overhead filtration). Simple , highly effective and cheap , it's unbeatable.

I think it's good that someone like yourself who has an amount of 'sway' within fishkerping community doing a rift lake cichlid style aquarium as it's an area of fishkerping that is a lot less popular than it used to be. This is a good way of showing people they can make s beautiful set up for these fish which may in turn encourage people to keep these wonderful fish.

Please do a full review of the tank. There is little information about it out there. Already I saw the intake for the first time in detail. That's pretty big and does need to be taken into account when planning the scape. I would also like to know your opinion about the built in lights. Would they do for growing plants etc.

Nice departure George, I love that you’re diversifying and showing us how aquascaping principles apply to non-planted tanks. It’s still nature aquarium, just a different angle on a different habitat. I reckon Demasoni Cichlids would look awesome. They’re not too big so should suit the scale well and have great pattern and colour to contrast with the rock-work. Incidentally, how do you clean the inside of that vertical inlet? I saw glass ones on a few Green Aqua vids and wondered how on earth the get them out for cleaning without draining the tank!

Nice vid! First the Echinodorus and now a Mbuna tank, nice to see the expansion of your skill set! May a few things I would have done differently. Mbunas are digging a lot, therefore fine sand is much better suited. You should avoid any substrate between the bottom plate and the stones, the fish will remove it and this can become a deathtrap or the whole pile can collapse and smash the tank. To protect the tank a bit from the massiv stones i always used an styrofoam layer inside the tank. Nevertheless beautiful! Btw Synodontis petricola would fit nicely (Tangajika but with similar needs).

I know this is an old video & it might seem silly for somebody to give you an aquascaping tip but it might benefit others that watch this video. For an African Cichlid tank, NEVER, EVER put the rocks on top of the substrate like has been done in this scape. ALWAYS put the base layer of rocks in position THEN add the substrate. It should be done this way because rift lake cichlids WILL dig the substrate out from under the rocks which can cause them to shift & for the whole lot to come crashing down, smashing or cracking the tank.
