60% of Nairobi’s population resides in informal settlements with limited or non-
existent access to electricity, water, housing, sanitation, and healthcare services among others. Most residents here rely on illegal, unreliable and hazardous electricity and water connections distributed by cartels and have become captives of these illegal suppliers.
Although the illegal services provided are affordable, they are also a death trap as reports of deaths, electrocutions, water-borne diseases and loss of property through fires continue to make headlines.
In this episode, we tell this story through the residents, victims and the cartels.

15:08 "Saa hii hapa hata ukienda uguze tu kichwa tu utoe kofia ukuwe huna viatu. Uguze hii mabati kama huna viatu, hii mabati ndio earth" is a very critical issue indeed!

The fire outbreak in the slums of Nairobi due to electricity shock is a tragedy that highlights the dire need for improved infrastructure and access to safe electricity in low-income communities. The incident underscores the importance of ensuring that all residents, regardless of their economic status, have access to reliable and safe electricity. This tragedy serves as a call to action for the government and other stakeholders to prioritize the upgrading of electrical systems and to educate communities on the safe use of electricity. It is also crucial that efforts are made to prevent future fires and to ensure that residents have access to resources to help them rebuild their lives.

Very very sad story indeed of Njogu to lose his daughter to electrocution because of illegal connections as well as Esther who lost her husband Andrea😠🤔! What i do not understand about Esthers husbands case is how he was electrocuted in the house and not outside where he was warning neighbors not to go to a particular area because of electrocution!

Trust me those people suffering alot in the slams of their own home, are the first people you'll see in the line of voting for their best future, those are the people who really votes in every and after five years hoping that the person they're voting for will save them from this tragedy. I really feel sad for Mr Njogu's daughter the way that man talks, I just feel that pain from his words. Please life may be cruel but we're all kenyans Please welcome and live in Mombasa it's time for a kenyan to save a kenyan.

Those people who do the illegal connections hawajali, more money while saving cost. Unapata mtu anashikanisha naked wires kwa nyumba to the point that mabati inakuwa earth vile the driver said. This just shows our govt from independence to current are bunch of corrupt visionless failures together with us voters since multiparty elections began. I bet you utarudi 20 years from now na utapata the same issues.

This is a well researched and packaged investigation report that few dare to work on due to the risks involved. But someone has to sacrifice for the sake of awareness to the larger population to ponder and ask ourselves, is this the way to run a so called "Sovereign and Democratic" Country? Damn! Kudos to your Team for this eye opener- special Feature of Ghetto Gava. I have sent a small token via your Mpesa paybill as my appreciation. Keep up the good work and God bless you all.🙏🏾
