The reason for the flex pvc cable just for the reagent pump is because in the past people complained using silicone tubing causes air bubbles to get inside thus creating inaccurate readings so now they switch to flex pvc tubing

i like the first mounting choice or build a shelf inside i also have a small tank red sea max e170 and am trying to fir a refugium. ghl products being stackable and so visually attractive can actually sit outside the cabinet on a shelf or on my desk. this would be particularly benificial if i wasnt running the unit with a controller as ti could adjust settings on the units easier. but im going all the way in :) with the upcoming release of the ion director im 100% sold on ghl

I like ghl. Even the stand alone units can still be used with the profilux4 controller or by themselves.

I've been using my Stand Alone GHL 2.1 Doser almost 3 years now. Most precise doser I've ever owned in my 26 years of reefing. Just a heads up, Keep your eye on the Blue plastic caps that cover the rollers. I've had several crack and small pieces of the plastic jam the rollers. I've heard that GHL has addressed this issue. Now that you are sponsored by them, maybe you can reach out and confirm if the new blue plastic caps have been improved or if they still recommend changing them on a regular basis. Perhaps you could address this on your GHL 2.1 doser video you release.

Only the Director unit itself needs to be horizontal. The dosing pumps could be mounted in any orientation. Be mindful of bubbles getting into the reagent or water intake lines as that will make the test values fluctuate. The water intake line should be measured to the nearest millimeter. Conversely, you could prime the line and empty the contents into a small graduated cylinder for the water volume in the line. (yes it matters in the programming) It will likely read lower than your Hanna checker or other methods of testing DKh. I highly recommend getting a reference solution to compare accuracy. The 4th dosing head can also be used to automate dosing of Alk if you chose to do that. The standalone unit can control up to 16 individual dosing heads without a controller and will soon be increasing to 32! It should be noted that firmware updates do require windows at this time, but otherwise the app and browser will work. In the spring they are releasing their ION director which tests at least Ca, Mg, K, Na, and NO3. My KHD has been running solid for a couple months now and the P4 is a beast of a controller. I'm glad I moved away from big orange.

Out of curiosity why not use the Mindstream? Need honest answer please. And what are your thoughts on mindstream?

I have recently received my kh director unit and set it up few days ago. What made me shell out $900 was, I too was under the assumption that since its german made, it should be precise and accurate. Its not as simple and clear cut as I thought. There are many complications in the setup and glitches that makes it NOT precise and inconsistent. I've had it running for 3 days. for me, Its tests compared to Hanna tester is very inconsistent. And I am ultra meticulous when it comes to hanna testing and its results correlates with reef chemistry calculator. (ie. according to reef chemistry calculator dosing 2ml should raise alk level to 8.0, hanna correlates 99% of the time whereas KHD 1 out of 5 time will correlate correctly) So I am far more confident with testing manually with Hanna testers. If you go to their forum, you will see tons of comments in regards to inconsistency. I've posted my questions and request for help 2 days ago and have still yet to get an answer from their moderators or anybody. No returns accepted too. I'm sorry to say i regretted getting this product. my intention was to simplify and automate, instead it adds more maintainence to my daily reef chores. thumbs down for me. As far as their doser 2.1 goes, it is pretty accurate. Although it did get stuck a few times in the beginning, it's running smooth now. But for whatever reason, when you pair it with the KH director unit, it does not make for a accurate combination.

GHL is a great company and in my future build I'll use most of their products, including Mitras leds (I read great stuff about them). But man... I really don't like that your channel slowly transformed in a comercial one. It's great that you get to build your system almost for free, but I stared lately to just skip your videos as I see them as those comercials in the middle of an article that makes you jump around them as fast as you can. You don't bring anything to the table anymore... you just present biased opinions about products you receive for free.

If I were you I would create a shelving right above the pump controller and sit your units right and won’t have to make any changes to any of your plumbing

Problem is he’s never used ghl products before. And he’s praising them. Obviously products were free so gotta advertise and praise to be sponsored. It would make sense if products been used 6 months and he can say products good, but praising right out of the box is a bit biased/paid commercial type of thing. I’ve used ghl products for over 10 years. And I can tell you just as much bad things about them as the goods. I’ve had the profilux controller since it was the P2, currently I have the latest P3 model before the P4. I’ve also used the doser 1, and currently have a doser 2. I’ve also used and owned the mitras 6100, 6200, and a couple 7206. Let’s just say their products are great and probably one of the best, on the market when it comes to build quality and hardware. But, their software, is probably one of the worst on the market. Very slow to update, and fix bugs. Their support was horrible for the last 10 years, worst on the market compared to companies like neptunes apex, ecotech, and especially tunze, who is probably the best best best on the market. Ghl is much better now on product support, they used to suck ass bad! I have nearly thousands of dollars in ghl products, all bought with my money, nothing free. So I’m not gonna say they’re good when they aren’t. Truthfully, ghl products are good but not the best, and usually costs more than the comparable products from other companies, imo a bit overpriced. Don’t get me wrong, ghl is amongst the top brands, definitely high end. But can’t say they don’t have issues.
