It wouldn't hit hard if they didn't cast her. If it was a Asian actress the audience would think that she just grew up and was kidnapped but to put a Japanese girls mind in this body is jarring and it shows what they really took from her which was her identity

This scene right here set this movie apart from the original for me. Instead of long monologues about the self, it shows the human and emotional aspect of the self. It is beautifully done, a truly remarkable scene.

The original creator of GiS stated that the Major is in a caucasion designed body as they were western military models. The backstory of her being a Japanese soul in a western body is actually straight out of the manga. Heck they even kept her homosexuality in before seemingly cutting it which you can see in the initial trailers to the film.

It was not accurate to manga but when you judge it as a separate film it was actually good

@@melodysky6007 The revered 1995 Anime is only accurate to one part of the manga, though it was a very major part of it - it did however expand on a religious aspect of the manga that was only touched on in one panel of the manga. All the other adaptations have diverged substantially in their own directions while keeping the main characters and world building. In that regard, the 2017 film is little different from these later adaptations.

Yes, I found the one scene in this movie that destroys the whole concept of what Ghost In The Shell the Orginal meant to me. This is an add-on concept, they put in the film. The Original major had kinda a clue who her mother was, and had zero need to find her. They added this in the movie for an American Audience, to replace the concept of how the Original G.I.T.S was political and intellectual. So I don't apologize for my detailed research, of the American Concept of this movie. If I talk about or write about something I like or don't like, I have taken the time, the effort to know the source material, from top to bottom, inside and out. If you watch the clip, you will see that this is a Mother and Daughter connection that they believed the American Audience could handle, not the Complex Question of our relationship with technology. When I see art get, squashed and dumbed down, and not challenge one's mind and only stay at the surface level, it shuts us all down as human beings to relate with each other, think, and ask questions. Sexy Actress Check. Blazing Sound Track Check. Amazing Visuals Check. The storyline we don't care about, just throw in some concepts from 3 other stories from the original and mashed them all together. sean bowman oh sorry I forgot that this movie still exists. I'm too busy watching better stuff like the original, blade runner 1 and 2, the fifth element, the Matrix, ready player one and a bunch of 80s B-movies that are better than this garbage.

sean bowman at least it's "original" and thought provoking. And who is talking about boring? The dialogue in this film is boring, the action scenes are boring and the acting is hammy. GITS is not a sci-fi classic, rather it's a sci-fi copy of previous materials that were way superior to this unoriginal dud.
